For a one week or more rental, I usually use a coupon code from BJs warehouse store travel site, to save about $50US https://www.nationalcar.com/index.do...-mop-_-5027379 (choose $30 off weekly rental. National and Alamo are partners in the DR and use the same cars). For National and Alamo, for online reservations, they have to be made at least 24 hours before you pick up the car (I always print out the reservation with the price on it and show it to an alamo-national worker to confirm that they know what the reserved price is).

Arriving at STI in the middle of the night next week.
Alamo Car Rental claims they are open all night. Does anybody knows if we can reliably expect them to be staffed at 4am?

Monday nights (when I was in santiago, years ago) was birthday night at Monte Bar. Las Colinas Rancho Tipico was packed on a Friday or Saturday night, with a place that has pool tables attached to it. Ahi Bar near the monument usually has a bunch of people on weekend nights. For higher end type bars, look at a site like Bufeo com to get an idea.
P4P venues, Passions is the best known. Casa Blanca and Ilusiones were (are) on the same street as Plaza Internacional. Be careful with the SWs near the Monument.
There are supposedly other low cost P4P venues, maybe some car washes and other bars. Maybe some other members will post additional information.

Hey guys me and my buddy are going to be in Santiago for a few days, stopping in on our way from Santo Domingo to Sosua. Any ideas on some mongering action there in terms of places to go to meet chicas and chica friendly hotels?

You can get a SIM at the huge La Sirena just before you get to Santiago on the right hand side.

These phone stores are dime a dozen. Even if you do not see one at the airport, on the road as you hit the highway, you will see MANY. Just tell your cab driver to stop. You will need an I'd to buy the card. And some time.

The thing is I might need to call somebody from the airport, and besides I'm not "actually" going to POP on the first day. I'm staying at Lifestyle in Cofresi. So I'm guessing, I'm not getting the card at the airport. Alright, thanks.

You will have to drive through Santiago to get to Puerto Plata. You can ask the driver to stop in Santiago to buy one, or you (probably easier) can get it at La Sirena on the Malecon in Puerto Plata where there are both an Orange store and a Claro store inside and it is air-conditioned and has clean bathrooms, and you can eat an ice cream or swig a cold drink while you wait.

Posts: 1955SIM cards at the airport?
I'm transferring from STI to Puerto Plata so won't even go into Santiago. Is there a place at the airport to buy a SIM card for my phone?

Stopped in Hooters on my way from the airport to Puerto Plata.
Had a good time and the food was typical Hooters food. Wonderful way to begin a Dominican trip.
The little map is from my GPS mapping software. Hooters is just off the main road so if you are driving to Puerto Plata or Sosua you do not have to go out of your way to have a quick bite.
