The motorcycle with no lights. This same thing happened to a friend who is a naturalized american, born here in the DR, but is 'rich' because' she is a gringa. She opened the door to her Jeepeta, the dude drove into her door, he had no lights front or back. The chico tumbled on to the roadway and another car hit him. With a broken arm and lacerations the other driver threw him into the truck of his car and drove the injured to a hospital. The cops arrested my friend and threw her in the slammer until she came up with 200, 000 pesos. She had to settle with the guy who was injured for his broken arm and short hospital stay. Count yourself lucky you did not hit the guy on the bike.

I have been rear ended by a truck, hit a cow, and a drunk driver ran into me. The truck caused damage to the rental car and my visa credit card paid for the repairs. I rented the car at Puerto Plata airport. Hint, pay the insurance or make sure your credit card will cover you. I have seen countless accidents in the DR. The worst was seeing this guy's guts on the road.

Aloha Sol is about a ten minute walk to the monument, there are bars, restaurants and clubs around the monument. Hotel Matum is in front of the monument.

2, 000 pesos, really? It is the cost of a room for one night. I believe somebody got advantage from you. Single or double cost the same. My visits never stopped to lobby desk, they just entered directly to the room with me, nobody asked anything.

Thanks, good to know. In the past I was told Aloha Sol was chica friendly with no extra guest fee (I have not stayed at the aloha sol).

1/2 block from the Aloha Sol is the Hodelpa Centro Plaza Hotel. I have stayed at the Centro Plaza and entered with guests without a problem. Price of the Centro Plaza is about $100 per night, free wifi, free breakfast buffet. If you stay at the centro plaza you can use the pool at the hodelpa el gran almirante hotel.

Alberto Suites, Hotel Platino are other options in Santiago. Alberto Suites seems it is about 5 blocks from the monument, price I have read is in the $50US range (I have not stayed there). Hotel Platino was chica friendly the one time I stayed there, I paid about $65US, it is not really close to the monument, it is across the street from a large University.

Hotel Aloha Sol, http://www.alohasol.com/, chica friendly, about $50US per night (BoricuaOnline has stayed there). It is on calle de sol, a main street in the old part of santiago, numerous stores and places to eat located nearby. The monument is about 6 blocks up calle de sol from the aloha sol hotel. Calle de sol is a one way street, walk in the same direction as the vehicular traffic up the hill and you will see the monument. Between the aloha sol hotel and the monument, about 4 blocks from aloha sol hotel is Tette Bar. Facing the monument is the Matum Hotel and Casino, which I have been told has a disco. Puerto de Sol restaurant is another venue that I saw crowded late one night (faces the monument). On the street behind Kuka Makara and Montezuma (Bar / Restaurant) is a street with several bars. Ahi Bar is popular.

Pics from Bufeo of Tette Bar.
