Just a follow up to Fuddzie and Ehunter on hotels in Santiago. Yes, the Colonial is a dump, and the Aloha is dead as far as hunting is concerned, always had good luck with the Gran Almirante and Matum picking up a chica. But, IMHO, nothing beats the Platino for a clean, cheap (about $50-60 a night, and chica friendly hotel. Chica friendly is they don't ask for ID or charge for guests. Also the Platino is close to the two mentioned casino and if you play the nickel slots, a 1000 peso pail will last about 3 hours on a losing streak. So, for about $30, where can you spend time, check out the scene, and wait for the elusive chica to catch your attention?
Happy hunting. Le Mons.

By the way. I thought I should warn you guys here.
When I met my wingman it was at Hotel Colonial. I had a look at the rooms and I was far from impressed. Getting to the point… that is one of the biggest dumps I have come across yet. My wingman was kind of pissed because of recommendations he got on other boards for the place and how one guy ranted and raved about it.
He saw my place at Matum hotel and wanted to change right away.
I would be embarrassed bringing any ho to the Colonial… Even a $10 ho I would not mess with in there. Imagine 4 scuffed up walls in a 8ftx8ft jail cell room not having been painted in 10 years. Two single beds with 2 feet walkway between them having yellowed sheets that look like the kids grew up with.
It is true you get what you pay for.

I came to Santiago on the Caribe tours bus, 120Pesos from Sosua. I got to say this trip had more down moments than up moments. I left my phone on the bus and some guy from Santa Domingo picked it up, and it has been hell trying to get it back. My wingman and I used half the night trying to tracking it down. We got the help of our taxi driver to convince him to return it after he was resistant in the beginning wanting to give it back. I still haven’t got my phone in hand but the driver was pretty sure he would be able to get it.
What was left of the evening, our driver took us to a Car Wash where he said there was quality girls. Since I have never been to a CW I wanted to see what it was all about.
The CW was called La Colonial. My description of this place was an outdoor patio disco. The girls that came there all seemed to be connected to boy friends. The ho Girls are the ones working as waitresses. There was one girl working that I can honestly say was a 10 in the face. Here body was also excellent. I could see some guys giving that a 10 also. Problem was she was very very slow upstairs. I tried talking to her, so did my wingman and we concluded her personality was like a 10 year old girl. I felt bad for her but what could you do? There were very few girls there that were to our liking and to be honest neither I nor my wingman were very clear with the system protocal. We were uncomfortable enough trying something there that we decided to pull roots for something more sure like Passions.
We invited the driver to come in to the club with us and he was all to happy to oblige. Passions was kicking. They had a very entertaining show they put on . A few girls got up and stripped. Then a short skit act from a group of guys dressed up as girls. A few more girls followed with stripteases. After, there was dancing with the ho of your choice. There were lots of girls grabbing you on the way to the bathroom. There were a few that interested me but now it was 3am. We were all tired and preferred to call it a night.
We also looked over the Matum casino earlier at about 10pm but did not detect any unattached girls there playing slots as an example.
Well, I tried to make contacts before arriving but the loss of my phone shot that all to hell. My conclusion is that if you don’t know somebody in the scene most everyone will have a rough go at it. Even some of the contacts I made here did not pan out.
Carnival was being set up the on Sunday morning and we saw some of it. I got bored easily and left for the hotel to do some writing. The taxi drivers here sure try to pump you for the most they can, unless one befriends you.
Lets see if I cant get anything going tonight…

I read into the previous posts and they infered that you had to be connected in some way or be there long enough to make traction with the in-crowd. I have been trying to make contact with girls on my own via googled-up date sites and things are much too slow for my comfort.
So that all my eggs are not in one basket, I also PM Negro below but it seems he has not been around. This will suck if I have to go into passion to pay top dollar. I wonder if La Vega is any better....

I took a short trip to the DR to start out 2009. I spent 3 nights in Santiago and 5 nights in Sosua. Santiago was a complete bust for me – I stayed in a nice hotel, but could not get any action. The doorman at the hotel said he could fix me up for a minimum of $100 sight unseen. I also got an offer from a cabbie (for his cousin? ! ) at $100 plus, also sight unseen. I don’t do the sight unseen routine any more, and for some reason, paying $100 just didn’t feel right in a country where an excellent salary is $800/month, so I declined both offers.
On the streets, people were very friendly, but not a single woman gave me so much as a flirt, which was kind of depressing. I spoke to several expats in town and they told me once you get past a certain point, you can do all right in Santiago, but I never got any traction. I don’t frequent the late night bars, so I can’t speak to that scene.
In Sosua, I enjoyed a different lady every night, no problem. See my report in that section.

Try Hotel Matum. There's a casino on site and a 5 minute walk to the monument. Chica friendly for about $60-65/night including taxes.

My Spanish is fair to good, but I'm wondering what you mean by " to go into the environment of the locals? If there are chicas out for $$, then I would think they woul know you existed. I'm wondering if you didn't attempt to talk to them due to your lack of Spanish. Also, did you have any luch at all?

Posts: 74I've stayed there since the flights stopped to santiago by continental. It is very chica friendly, but it is a touch and go day to day. For one thing spanish is a must if you wish to go into the enviornment of the locals. They don't know you exist! Women won't speak to you on the street [most]. You'll have to do some "leg"work to find where to go. I know sundays are good at the monument within walking distance. I usually travel alone coming or going and unless I've had company with me It was hard to find a "friend" in a short time.
For me it was sometimes unconfortable to move thru areas with large amounts of people and minimal grasp of the language. The hotel is very accommodating but discretion is the rule.
