I lived and worked in Aruba for several years and I thought I would give ya'll a quick run down on the situation.

The Red Light District in San Nicolas has about 30 bars with between 2 and 10 Girls working. 99% of the Girls are from Columbia. They range from drop-dead gorgeous on down. This is all government controlled. The bar owners select girls from photos sent up from Columbia (always a lot of fun at the bar) , the Girls go to a Clinic in Columbia for health checks, then they fly into Aruba, and are screened again before they are allowed to start work. They are required to go to the Clinic in Aruba once a week for check ups while working. The Girls are allowed to stay for 3 months, then the get shipped back home, and can not return to Aruba for 1 year.

The Bar owners pay for the Girls airfare, and medical expenses, and charge them rent for their rooms (each girl has her own room upstairs, or around the corner from the bar). The girls daily rent is equal to the cost of their services. There is very little crime in Aruba, and the girls are protected by the police. Most of the girls are very happy with the arrangement and can save quite a sum of money while working in Aruba.

Most bars will require you to buy a girl 3 drinks before you can take her up stairs, drinks for you or your girl are 5 Florin, about $3. The cost of her services for one half hour is 60 Florin ($33), lomger sesions are negotiable.

The Bars themselves can very greatly, from very nice Air-conditioned lounges to Seedy open air bars. Some of the top names (In my order of Preference) Papa Ciga, Minchies, Chesterfield, American Bar, Caribbean Club. I encourage you when there to try them all, you never know where you will find a diamond in the rough. Especially try to Find Papa Ciga, a good friend of mine is the owner (Joselito or Ito for short), Big screen TV, shows all the fights, 8' drop pocket pool table, really laid back.

Some bars are open at 12 noon, and close at 12 midnight, others open at 8pm and close at 2am or later depending on the croud. Some are open 7 days a week, some are closed on Sunday. Girls can be taken out of the bars, but the fine is high, much better to meet them in there off hours. Find a Cutie that works at the bars that close at 12, and off to the Discos in Orangistat. Rent a car, the girls love to go touring during the day.

San Nicholas is very safe and action can be found at any time of day. I have seen street action in the blocks around the hotel in the previous post. Most of the girls are from Columbia. the price range from 40-60 Don't pay more

Aruba Followup. Well, just got back from Aruba. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to go to San Nicholas. Most people I spoke with seemed to think going there would be fairly safe.

I did manage to go to a local strip club - Hotel Bacarra. It sucked. Prices were way to high and the place was a dive. It was Monday night and the place was totally empty at 10:30pm and the one Columbian chic working there would not even give me the time of day unless I bought her a drink. I was told by a cabbie that San Nicholas is really the only game on the Island, unless you want to go with the incall escort scene.

Going to Aruba tomorrow. Tempted to check out San Nicholas, the red-light district. I haven't checked the archives but can somebody tell me if this place is currently safe to go to alone? Is it better to tell a cabby what you have in mind and let him be a guide? Thanks.

I have only traveled to Aruba with a stateside long-term girlfriend b4, so did not do the research. My understanding is that Aruba has a similar set-up to Campo Allegre/La Mirage, but on a smaller scale (don't know what it's called). Also, I think that the other pro options may be more limited than in Curacao. Aruba is a prettier island, particularly because it is less industrial--Curacao does quite a bit of oil refinery work for Venezuela which in certain areas very much detracts from the scenery. However, for general partying, IMHO, Curacao is far better than Aruba. The diving, if you're into that, is not nearly as good in Aruba. Aruba seems geared toward families and couples. It also has a fraction of the population of Curacao. Lastly, if you're just absolutely torn between the two, you could probably book a round-trip flight between the 2 and effectively divide your time (they are not very far apart). As I understand it, there are daily flights between them (maybe even a boat also).

The outcall into your room was $120 per hour. (see ads in Aruba Today Newspaper) not San Nicholas red lite dist. Which is much cheaper.
just wasnt happy going to San Nicholas alone.

yes I read some travelguides and the prices are at least 20 % UP as in The Netherlands...
The trick is to find a good (not too expensive) hotel which is GF-friendly;-)

Nope, prices aren't that expensive. Don't know where you got the info with the USD 120 from. In the red light district in San Nicholas the prices are (more or less) USD 30 - USD 50. Girls are mostly from Colombia, few from Dominican Republic.
Good tip: check the WSG archives 1999 - 2001. There are good reports about Aruba (even from me though under a different handle).
The prices on the island are on a level with the US, i.e., on average a bit pricier than the NL.
With Dutch, English and Spanish language skills you are 100% fine.

originaly I was planning a trip to Venezuela,but after all that shit that is going on there I might change my plans for March next year.
I am DUTCH so I should have no language prob's in ARUBA (which is still officialy a member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands),besides that I speak a bit spanish and good english.

Whats the scoop??? 120 US $ per hour?? mmm that is kindda expensive for South-American countries.

Is it true that the isle (as a whole)actualy is kindda pricey?

Just got back from alittle business in Aruba.
I didnt go to San Nicholas, ( Red lite dist) I used a in-call service. Just get a free copy of Aruba Today Newspaper. It's free in every hotel lobby.
in the back classified ads, there are about 5 e/s services listed.
on my last trip, I used Haven Massage. Very happy, non clock watcher. 120 per hour. Took a few photos XXX She was a real sport.
This trip i used "Yap Yum" service. Called spoke w/ Gene. the MGR, he brought a hottie from Columbian to my room within 40 minutes.
100 to Gene at my door and tipped her 25, at the end and she was happy with that!
Great time good value, and i brought some of that "Indian God lotion" I bought on ebay, so this lady got a workout from me!!!! '
30 minutes of non stop.
2 nights later, I called Gene and tried a different lady. She was 21 and a cutie.
There girls werent into being photographed like Haven e/s service. I think its a personal issue with them.
The services are good in Aruba. By the time you take a long bus ride to the red light dist. Pay alot more and have a incall serv. The downside is that you dont see the woman who will be arriving to your room.
