One last gasp before heading out. Any info people have on anything besides Campo would be cool.

There have been a few other places mentioned here but without much detail. Havana, Playstation etc.

    Anything?

Brazil has lots of beaches. You can get an apartment on Copacabana Beach for around US$300. a month, with maid.

Also been there 3 times. Loved it.

An excellent idea though. I actually had a trip all lined up but realize it is still going to be big city living. I'd rather trade the Gucci loafers for flip flops.

The Dutch will give you a non-work residency if you can show money (about 24,000 NAFl). My stuff originates from a trust I can't touch so I don't have much in the way of taxation issues to worry about (just a lot of gifts!).

Panama is excellent if you have taxation issues, I agree. The DR also gives a legal 3 year window for residents before worldwide taxation kicks in. I agree no one really pays it there.

I am currently looking at Venezuela (Marg Isl.) and Curacao and St. Maarten. I am having a lot of trouble finding good info on costs of living in Curacao. Things like restaurant costs, maid costs, etc.

I am looking for: beach, warm, decent sailing, cheap costs, maid, chicas, English or Spanish language spoken, not too scary (I take Rio and Colombia off the list. I have others to worry about). The more I roam the more I realize that it is a big damn world.
A blind trust. Nice! Congrats from all us working stiffs!

To be honest, after a recent series of pm's with some members of this board - It has come to my attention that I come across as alot older than I actually am. I'm not all that old either (I just turned 40) so I don't qualify for any pensionado programs yet either (except of course for Panama's).

I've been to Margarita Island as well as the Venezuelan mainland on an extensive trip. Curacao is much more expensive across the board. Marg Isl is a bit of an anomaly in this hemisphere - its a caribbean island owned by Venezuela but in terms of day to day living the island seems to retain its own character and autonomy. In other words they keep a safe distance from President Chavez and his socialist minions. (This of course could change.)

Labor costs are dirt cheap, so domestic help will be cheap. Gasoline is comically cheap (around 14 cents a gallon) and they are currently involved in an extensive building and reclamation project so there is alot of new construction of fairly inexpensive properties. My issue is I could never see living there - I found the island to be a dry dustbowl completely without any charm or personality.

Cuaracao is charming and enchanting! I always felt comfortable there. I think it would still be better for retirees from the Netherlands as they qualify for various relocation and tax perks.

cheers and good luck on your search Jim........

I think St. Maarten may be big bucks, but anything you guys can provide would be hugely appreciated.

I second that. Good Campo details!

How do you find costs of a beer in a bar and stuff like that?

    Jim Steele,

A man after my own heart! Looking for a place to hang his hat! So am I.
I have traveled this entire hemisphere doing research and here's a couple of tidbits you might find helpful.

I agree that apartments are cheaper than in St Maarten but there is a problem settling in the Netherlands Antilles that you should be aware of - they're gonna' tax you!

To qualify for "pensionado" status you must satisfy several requirements - you must be at least 50 years old, must own property in the NA valued at at least $250,000, and may not have lived in the NA for the 5 years before making the application. If you satisfy these requirements you can then apply for favorable tax status.

What favorable tax status means is that you are going to be accessed a flat tax of %10 on your worldwide income. Now I don't have any problem paying tax on income I earn in the NA - afterall one has to give "Ceasar that which is Ceasar's" but to get a duplicate tax on worldwide income is too much!

If a person is interested in retiring in latin america he should first consider Panama (no tax on worlwide income, no real estate taxes, "pensionado discount card" issued that effectively puts the entire country on sale, no minimum age to qualify) Nicaragua, next (huge incentives to encourage foreigners to open own business and employ locals, minimum age is 45 to qualify) or in the caribbean - Dominican Republic (worldwide tax on investment income is on books but has never been enforced and according to my attorney down there - never will).

Finding cheap rentals or homes is only the first part of it, make sure first that you don't fall into a double or triple tax nightmare, if you relocate.

    my (exactly) 2 cents

    FORD

    Comprehensive report

    Hi brothers,
Here are my experiences with various girls of Campo Alegre, dated around 17 April:

    1) General considerations

    a) There are about 150 chicas there, unbelievable nicht wahr? but as they do not select them like in St Maarteen, a lot are not so good looking. But even if only 10% are worth giving a try, that is more than 15 different ones. Therefore, I would suggest a one week vacation, provided you can have FS at least twice a day (because you will want to try some of them more than once, won’t you?). This depends if you are a picky mongerer, if you like only whites or blacks or both… There are about 50% of each colour.

    b) One advice: do not go at 6pm, they are all preparing for the action starting around 8-9pm. However, you should go around 2pm. They are likely to have their meals, and although some of them will be outside the Camp, you will be able to see the remaining ones in their usual attire. Very instructive, you will notice how they really look like without their sexy attire and make-up. One will have a bad scar that would be hidden normally (room 155). Another will really look like her age.

    c) “Multa”: as reported earlier, there is an incredible high fine for taking the girl out from 6pm (700 guilders, i.e. 400 USD). And you will have to pay her the equivalent of what she would normally earn in one night on top of that. So forget it! However, there is no fine during daytime, but it would not be so easy to find a girl you would want to come with you, as they are tired and sleep at least until 12 for most of them. Do not forget that they will also need some time to do some shopping, send money back to Colombia, etc.

    d) Other financial considerations: for your information, the girls have to pay 100 guilders per day for their room, which means that, if you include their other costs such as meals, they need to have at least 3 customers a day. Therefore, there need to be more than 450 clients daily: I doubt that there is much more in the camp during this low season period. As a consequence, it must be really hard for some of them.

    e) It has been said to me by a couple of chicas that North American clients are very much appreciated in comparison than locals and Dutch. There are said to be nice and respectful, to understand that it is a business and to pay a lot.

    2) These considerations put aside, here are my reports on various girls: I have very high standards so you should not be disappointed by this shortlist. My model type is more like Playboy: so there, all slim and not flat chested girl. Few blacks.

    - When I arrived I was approached by Paula or Claudia (room 265), a rather ugly falling boobs girl. So, I have never tried with her, but on day I could hear her screaming very far from her room: her fake orgasm is maybe worth a try? In case you like that sort of thing…

    - Gabriella (room 149): she looks like a high profile escort, and I could imagine her in the arms of a well-known Hollywood star with her black sunglasses. For the first time in my life, I was rejected by this presumptuous girl, although I am a slim, educated and rich Caucasian. I do not really know why, but I remember she was really upset when I asked her if she’d like to dance with me: maybe she does not understand that some of us want to share a bit of social life before going to their room? I do not regret though, because she had an attitude that I could have done without… There was also a Julie who asked me for a drink just after only one minute of discussion; I hate that, so she got no drink, so money, no sex… hey guys, don’t you think we can be enough educated to propose it ourselves when we feel we want to have a discussion with a chica, rather than being “obliged” to do it?

    - Yessenia (room 158): she is the only one wearing a sort of Indian jewelry on her face. To my point of view, the nicest of the Camp, a 8+, not a 9 because her face is cute, her boobs are siliconed but ok, but her ass and legs so so. Very sexually oriented: no feelings, just straight like in a porn movie. There seem to be no personality hiding behind this genuine professional girl. This job must have changed her, I really wonder whether she’ll be able to become a normal person afterwards…

    - Andrea (room 133): a 6+ blond with fake boobs girl. Service very “nothing special”, mechanical. I had the impression of coming out of an hospital after having an injection. Do not ask me why.

    - Vanessa (room 123): a black girl with a body to die for. Nice personality, but there again, nothing special. But I tried her twice, because Alexandra (see my report hereafter) was supposed to meet me at 12.30 (we had made an appointment the day before), but she was allegedly “at the church” (laugh!), so since I had paid the entrance fee, I did not wanted to come back home just like that. So Vanessa got a second chance. But still no kisses. What a shame! Actually, rather frustratimg.

    - Veronika (room 103): a fair skin DR girl with natural ample breasts with large aureole. There are real! I only regret she was a little bit too “brutal”. She apologized and said it is because the other ones are like that with her. I tried to explain her some of us can be different. She said she would take care of me like that next time. Not sure there will be another session though…

    - Paula or Claudia (room 107): nothing to do with the previous one. Finally, I had a good massage there, she is a mature (but only 28 years old) mother, who understands that you are a human being.

    - Nathalia (room 151): the smallest sized chica with well proportionate implants. She seems to be much demanded or her strategy is very efficient, because she was rarely available. I discussed with her and I have to say she was quite reluctant to any sort of exchange about her life in Colombia, her friends and family. It looked weird, but I was still attracted by her body and her apparent quiet personality. And I was not disappointed. She always has a smile on her face, and she talk nicely during intermission. She kisses a lot your body, and her very personal way of making love reminded me the “thai massage”. So do not miss her but treat her well please.

    3) Other places

I have only been to Race Cafe, Habana Vieja and Amigo Terrace. The first 2 ones were closed (on Easter Monday for RC and at 9.30pm for HV). In AT, less than 8 chicas, two good looking, but I did not try with one of them because they were busy with other customers.

    Leaving costs

To my point of view, Curacao is cheaper than St Maarteen, which is more "cruise ship" oriented. Both destination are complementary :
    - In Curacao, you will be able to find cheap apartements (I was a Ceri Neger, but there are others like Flamingo) were as in St Maarteen, you more likely have to be in these expensive hotels. However I am inquiring about the apartment solution in SXM as well. In Campo Alegre, it will kill you to have a girl out for the night
    - In St Maarteen (look at this section) there is a brother who will try the Blue Sky Hotel, just near Carolina. Certainly cheap but basic. Let's see. The selection fo girls in Carolina bar and Seaman is however very good, unlike Curacao, where you will find a bit of everything, young to old, ugly to pretty. In SXM, you can take a chica out for a small "multa".

No it was Playstation, I think the problem is that I'm misreading the notes I made on the island in the fall. O.K. if Playstation is in Santa Catarina then I got my directions mixed up its out past the Santa Catarina Sports Club on the way to Boka Tabla. My bad!

    Thanks Chapotin!
