Tried to find Sol Ardiente after but couldn't. Cabbies didn't know it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've been in Santa Cruz for a short time now and am still learning Spanish but have tried my luck and got varying results. Girls on the street are interested that you're foreign but they're all after the passport! I'm trying to find a club which is a locals joint but not 6 sea donkeys in a corner playing cards! Can anyone recommend a club and it whereabouts. The place mentioned by Micky Dee (very useful thanks) sounds great. Somewhere, where I can drink and take back a couple of eighteen years-old back with me! Is this asking too much!

You can get a penthouse sweet here for like 50 USD per night and hit the front desk after 10:00 pm and they'll call a cute girl for you. This place has a good breakfast in the morning too. Hotel Arenal is a good choice.

In SCZ hotel employees are forbidden to procure chicas for guest. LP does not have a concierge, per se, but front desk personnel who are sometimes women.

Ask radio dispatched taxi drivers, as they are the main resource for that activity. They can send girls directly to you, take you to night clubs like Curry's or various casas des putas.

I will be back in SCZ in early Febr. For a few weeks of R&R. Yes, I love the warm weather especially when the northern USA is in a deep freeze.

I have never been disappointed in Bolivia except for being there on Sundays or during Easter, when there is pittifully nothing to do.

I also have been around the world and find SCZ at the top of the list. I used to think Dom Rep was great but in SCZ there are more nonprofessionals. That makes it more fun.

Yes, it is important to speak some Spanish in SCZ, like it is to speak some French in Paris, even if you just want to buy a baguette.

I hope to try some of the new venues this time.

Willy, thanks for the deep-dive. I guess that I was out of luck when visiting these clubs. The first impression one gets of a place very often depends on one or two good experiences. When these are lacking, the conclusion is often that the whole town sucks. Sol Ardiente is near the Bougainvilleas hotel, right? A taxi driver proposed to take me there but I decided against it as the guy at the reception of my hotel had warned me that it is a dangerous area. Well, perhaps better next time.

Bucanero asked some good questions. I really had to think about all the reasons I like SCZ, and it isn't all mongering. Just mostly. What did you miss? Hum?

1. Attitude. Crucenas love Americans, the rest of the world hates us. On an individual basis, for example, lo-ball a Boliviana and she will likely cry. Lo-ball a Thai girl and she will cut out your heart with a spoon. These are generally tender young girls who are gentle and actually fun to be with. I have visited the families of 3 of them near Santa Cruz. Where else would that happen? I often help them clothing shop. Fitting new bras on a 110 pound 19 year old is one of the best afternoons I have ever had, and it led to an even better evening. No one cares about this in SCZ, as a middle aged man with a 20 year old date, no one at the cine center or the restaurant even notices. Thats my favorite part of the laid back SCZ attitude.

2. Price. Done right, everything CAN be cheap. It often isn't, but it can be.

3. Safety. The places you describe at night. Sol Ardiente and Sol Y Luna being in bad areas, and VIP Valencia being in a very poor area. All true. I visit all of them each time I am down and have had no problems. I must stand out as the only gringo in the place, and the only guy over 45. Still, no problems. Security is pretty good, they don't want to attract the police.

4. Last, and far from least, are the girls. I will admit that the cheap clubs have cheap looking girls. Some nights. But on tues. Try out day at Sol Ardiente, you can hurt your neck just looking at the school girls trying to dance. And I have picked up girls in these two cheap places that were prettier than any girl I have seen in Argentina. And that says a lot. They arent common, and a reputation for tipping big helps. I ALWAYS tip the server and ask for any special girls to be brought to me, and I will give him a fee. On several occasions I have taken girls before their first ever dance in the club.

But to be sure. I have had some slow afternoons, and some early visits to the clubs when there were only a few girls that were 3-5 range, or were a little better but didn't want anything to do with me. But there is always Currys, and a private room is cheap, and a real beauty is only $100 a pop, and that is about the top end of Santa Cruz. And to answer your implicit question, I have only seduced two non-pros in all my trips to Bolivia. It may be fun for some, but for me is a waste of time. I like to know where we're headed. Your (and other posters') enthusiasm about SC makes me believe I've missed some vital 'link' when I visited. Perhaps I just didn't get it. My point of reference is Rio, where you can find massage places, termas and common brothels easily. These places are not hard to find and addresses and 'previews' are being shared on this board. In SC, you can find some of these places as well (except for the termas, of course) but they are much more hidden. I found only two 'casas de citas' in SC but I'm convinced there are many more:

VIP, Radial 10 #2000 entre Anillo 4 and 5. Prices quoted were B$200 and B$300 per hour, depending on the girl. Not expensive at all but there were only 3 girls when I visited (in the afternoon) and none to my liking. The reception was far from friendly and I didn't like the atmosphere. The girls were totally cold and indifferent. I did not like the neighborhood and would definitely not visit at night.

Bellas, Anillo 3 ext. #3735 entre Mutualista and Paraguana. Prices between B$250 and B$350 per hour. Same cold reception as in the other place. I don't think they got many foreign visitors as they obviously didn't know how to 'handle' me. As in the other place, I was essentially ignored. Also in this place, there were only 3 girls present when I visited (afternoon).

You are right that prices are considerably lower than in most other places in Latin America. Especially Brazil is getting outrageously expensive these days, much to my regret. Bolivia is still cheap (although SC is more expensive than Cochabamba, where I visited 2 years ago). And indeed, there is a lot of variety in SC when it comes to girls (and I do like that very much). However, I wonder what you mean with "easy to pick up a girl.". Do you mean a callgirl you ordered to your hotel room or a girl you met in a club? Or do you mean a non-pro (or semi-pro) you met downtown? As I mentioned in my previous post, the 'normal' girls I saw on the central plaza did not seem interested at all. When I smiled at them they simply ignored me. Well, that could be age and looks related, of course. I'm not that young anymore. Please tell me about your approach in SC. If I really missed out on something good, I may consider to go there again. I like a challenge. However, my next visit will definitely not be in the Bolivian summer season, which is unbearable IMHO. By the way, I do speak some Spanish (although not fluently) so language was not the main barrier.

Sorry to hear of your experience in SC. It is very different from any of mine. I have been there 17 times, and each has been fantastic. Compared with other places? Yes, it still shines in comparison. Have been to Brazil, Arg, chile, Peru, and Venz and would rate all lower, MUCH lower in the case of Argentina. Have been to Europe and Asia as well, and orient too. Santa Cruz is the best place I have every found for the man that likes variety. Gringos, Indigenous, or castillian mixed are all ready and relatively cheap. Easy to pick up a girl and "honeymoon" with her. Take here somewhere. Anywhere. And travel for a few days. Makes the trips exciting. I have taken girls to buenos aires for a few days twice. They are sooo greatful, and they don't need a passport. Or, if you're just clubbing, try some of the new (Sol Y Luna, Sol Ardiente, solid gold, and such in addition to Curry's and Ceasars and Cafe show. Have the hotel concierge send you a babe. You'll love it, and tip him accordingly, and he will try harder next time. Try this. Go to Sol Ardiente. Pick up a Sea Donkey. Tell her what you want, and if she will find it for you, you'll give her a finders fee. It works. Sea Donkeys don't get much business, and love to get drinks, hence arm bands, and hence respect and $. I have nailed the most beautiful chica in several places with the same technic. A good looking local, with many connections is essential if you want to recruit civilians. My advice. Don't. All of the servers in the main clubs can be had for the right price. Bargaining, teasing, negotiating is a fun part. You should get skilled at this. And always, always, tip and ask the club security for advice. Willy Dee

I'm in Santa Cruz right now on my first (and probably last) visit. There are very few options here, compared with almost all other South American countries (and I visited most of them). Even Asuncion was better. The worst is the suffocating heat all day and night, which really saps my strength. Any casas are hard to find, which is surprising for such a big city. I did find two places though but went away again as there was a general lack of good looks. 'Come back later! ', they told me. 'There will be more girls at night'. Yeah, right, at night I'd rather avoid those neighbourhoods.

I did go to Kaprichoos last night but was very disappointed by the lack of talent. There were only a few girls which were not worth the high asking price. O. K, it was Sunday, so there is probably more choice on other nights. Nearby Cafe Show was closed.

This place may be ok if you're on a business trip and want to sample the local talent but it sucks for a real mongering trip IMHO. Some very good looking girls on the Place 24 Septiembre all right but clearly not into business: my smiles were never returned.

In Bolivia other attractions are worth a vist. Not the monger venues.

My Spanish is definitely NOT good but in the past I have had success at finding 'civilians' (Part timers / Amateurs) in and around the Plaza Principal or in many of the bars around the centre or in the Equipetrol area. Many are students who enjoy the chance to practise English!

As I usually have to be up and out rather in the mornings I generally do not go to the clubs but when I am not able to find a civilian playmate I like to order 'room service' from my hotel. (See my report of 27. 08. 11)

For around 60-70 US$ I have always had a MOST ENJOYABLE experience and sometimes it is rather nice to see what will arrive at your hotel! I have NEVER been disappointed!

OK, I agree that S. C. Is NOT the best place in S. America to go to JUST for Mongering but, if you are there, it seems to ME that it is ALLWAYS possible to find an enthusiastic young playmate for a relaxing hour or two.

Personally I rather like the place.
