Any advise from anybody on the climate in Sau Paulo ?
    Santa3,

Since you're from Goa, a former Portuguese colony, you probably have the language problem licked. Is that so? In any case, I would say the climate in Sao Paulo is more like in southern Europe rather than northern, subtropical as a meteorologist would put it.

I'd just like to advice you that if you're from India and you are vegetarian, Brasil will be a shock to you. Brasilians are carnivorous and meat dishes are easily available. Pure vegetarian is going to find his options quite limited.

Just go....You will experience the country in a way that many have not. I imagine that if you have an offer for employment, you will make a good wage as a foriegn professional.

The ladies will love you, especially when find out that you have been recriuted to come to Brazil to work, they will smell the reias lining your pockets.

You will also meet people in the work place that are from Brazil. I imagine they will have a great deal of respect for you as a coworker, and will want to show you the best the Brazil has to offer-especially in the beginning.

Do not worry about bias, just go for it.....

    Currency Exchange

Prior to my trip I had a preoccupation with where to get money at a reasonable rate. I did place some money in a checking account for the trip, so that I would have access to the ATM, and so that I could do some charging if needed. I also carried cash because I was staying in a hotel, and I knew that there would be a safe in the room.

Hotel exchange- The hotel was the most convenient place to get money. I stayed at the Othon Palace, so they always had plenty more than I needed to exchange at any given time. The problem with the hotel is that they did not have the best rate per dollar. They were offering 2.0r per.

ATM- with the ATM I found that it was a special trip, and there was always someone stationed at the door waiting for me to exit, so that they could ask for some money. I used the ATM as my last resort.

Currency Exchange- The job of the currency is to exchange money, the only limitation here is that they established daytime hours and once the day began, sometimes it would be difficult to get there on time.

Black Market- Some of the local businesses around the Othon Palace provided the currency exchange service. Telmo Solano Wholesale Gems, Meia Pataca, and Help, all bought dollars in exchange for reias. These 3 places also gave the best rate for the money. They were giving from 2.2 to 2.28. For some, this may work out well, because in the course of a day you may find yourself in or near one of there places. No special trip needed.

This trip I decided to bring home 500r with me so that I can get into town next time and not worry about money for at least a couple of hours. When I left Rio the first time, I did not realize that the urge to return would hit me so hard. I was told while I was there that I would be back. Now I know that it is true. Once you go to Rio, and do it the way you want to, the likelihood of a return trip is very high.

I hope that someone is able to benefit from this info, and remember no matter where you go to exchange money, be safe. Some tourists do not realize that they have in their pockets at least a month or two's wage at any given time. There are many opportunists out to make a buck on a carefree, careless or unsuspecting traveler.

    Thanks

Nice to hear that folks. I should be based in Sau Paulo. Thats the southern part i believe and also the climate is more european and not tropical. Is that correct?
    Need to plan clothing accordingly.

    Santa 3,

I'd say 3000 reais per month would do you fine, including once a week hobbying. This figure would vary depending on what area in Brazil you settle in, also. It is a large country. As far as culture is concerned, you should fit in fine, as Brazilians are very tolerant of other cultures, being rather multicultural and multi-ethnic themselves.
