    Quick add

Went to Altas Horas on Friday and I must say that it was a dump. Looked like VM but girls were uglier.
So I had to leave immediately.

  2. #91

    and . . .

Checked out the area from vargas to visconde souza franca (where there are traditional brainless late night bars clubs and so on) and it is safe enough if you are careful. But many of the girls are what the locals call garota banana lol (cute expression I thought) so beware! On non-monger stuff, meant to add the day out I recommend is Amazonia Bioparque - a real hassle to get to but worth it.

    some parting thoughts

I´ll be doing short stop travelling soon so prob won´t post much. Here´s one or two additional bits of info and things on Belem in case they help.

    Locomotiva
    - yes, I have to agree in the main with Propertyman, it´s usually a very enjoyable night out at very reasonable cost - except for the taxi fare out there. I´ve found most taxi drivers will accept 20R if I just offer it upfront.

I had a wonderful time with some very special ladies there most of this week - Saturday, Monday (just the whiskeria and motel on Monday), and Tuesday. Really beautiful people. They went out of their way to make my time a lot of fun and often went well over the hour at no extra charge (Locomotiva sometimes charge extra pro-rata on the room if they are busy though). I don´t think it´s that there´s any especial quality control though. Either I´ve been lucky or picked well. I think most of the girls there probably give a very good service. The ones I have met have appreciated time on the balcony, time spent laughing and joking. Everyone accepted 100R happily and with good will. The only exception was last night. The atmosphere wasn´t quite so good as Tues or Sat. First girl I took gave a disgusted look when I said I was paying 100R not 200R but accepted anyway. A good looking girl, blonde, busty. In the room however she was determined to insist on setting the pace - ie getting me ´off´ as quickly as possible. (Needless to say, she also acted like the 10R room was beneath her). Was it just me? I don´t think so. I went to the room with her at 2.10am. At 2.30am I told her I had no intention of coming quickly so she could go early, paid her and left. Found another girl who was pretty cute, very sensuous and sexy kisses etc on the balcony. But in the room she asked for money upfront. I told her no, I´d pay afterwards the way I always did and she starting remonstrating. I walked out. She came after me, insisting she was sorry and would I go back to the room, but the mood was lost. I didn´t want to ´make the best of it´ - and was also slightly curious to see how reception handled it. I paid the 10R for the room and they asked me to wait. After checking the room and speaking to the girl, they actually refunded my 10R, which was pretty good. But the clincher was that girl A, the blonde, came out of another room with another customer at about the same time. This was about 3.10pm. So she had not given her second customer a full hour either (One hour is the minimum booking afaiaa).

Other small bits of info, not sure if this has been covered - the entrada for girls is 5R. I´ve been asked in the whiskeria if I want to pay someone in, and politely ´explained´ how they could just go to the cashier themselves and pay lol. There is also a cabine upstairs (to the right if you are facing the stage). I hired this once for a private dance at a cost of 50R, which I thought was bl**dy expensive. But there again you get a damn good pole dance with lots of full touching. Snooker is 1R a game.

    SWs
It has slightly annoyed me that all the SWs I see around Vargas are mostly ugly or unwashed as hell. Then I jump a taxi to Locomotiva and frequently pass what look like absolute stunners. I checked with my taxi driver (one that doesn´t have the bible open at specific pages on the dash) and he said the area was safe enough, and to pay them around 50R. We´re talking a few blocks down from Vargas in the direction of Locomotiva (if you´re going the quickest way, near the docks, not via Nazare).

    Hotels
I´ve been staying at Ferrador which is probably as good as any in the area, which are much of a muchness. It´s 75R a night which quickly comes down to 70R including a solid breakfast (If you get up early rather than late it´s much better with many freshly cooked goodies). Cost for guests if you take them to breakfast is 10R. It´s on Aristides Lobo, a few yards of Vargas - you can see the sign from the main road. Icamiaba Hotel on the next street down looks almost identical - soulless concrete block but ok if nothing inspiring.

    Other places
Veronica´s is shut several nights a week. Maybe worth trying on the way to Baraida as it´s in the general direction.

    a reminder on haggling*
Knowing the correct price for something and sticking to it will generally earn you respect. You can always treat her a bit in other ways later if you want to - let her help herself to a chocomilk from the Locomotiva frigibar for instance, or pay for the snooker next time you see her, or book her again. Paying more (ie the asking price), in my experience at least, just reinforces the fact that it is a purely commercial transaction - money for sex. BUT Please don´t follow a similar approach when arranging a date with a quality escort in the UK. Doing so is the height of bad manners and will not endear you to her. Respect local etiquette. Please guys!

    Other Belem
The city is not the scruffy commercial district of Ver-o-peso, Paraiso and the markets off Vargas. Neither is it all outer suburbs like those where Locomotiva is located. I think most gringos going to Belem are long enough in the tooth to do their own exploring. If not, or if you are here for just a very short while, try walking from Republica along Nazare and the streets off to the right (Bras Aguilar etc) with the nice designer shops and restaurants (without the hype of Docas - although my fave meal this trip was maybe a very good straight X-Tudo in the market at 2R). Catch a bus back from Nazare area - anything pointing back the way and with Vargas on the front - change of 2R - and it will probably go down Visc.Souza Franco in Umarizal before getting to Docas and turning up Vargas. If you get off at the big shopping centre (Boulevard Shopping) you have something approaching Rio Sul when they´ve finished it, even if it´s not quite there yet. Check the local papers for live music events or ask people. Dance lessons are much cheaper than in Rio, if not maybe to the very high standard there, they are still pretty good. Touristy stuff: Jardim Botanico is not that good really - more for kids - and a hassle to get to (but you can pick up the aircon Mosqueiro bus back for about 3R). Mangal das Garcas - lost the ´ugly block of concrete´competition to Rio´s Corcovado, but still you can go up in a lift and se all of Belem and see there is not much to see dadadada. Well looked after, nice red whatsit birds flapping about, butterfly farm, and an upmarket restaurant that had a long wait for a table when I went on a weekday afternoon. My choice for a date might probably be the Museu Emilio Goeldi on Maghalaes Barata 376 which has a zoo included even though the museum part is shut just now for restoration.

    Enjoy.

*When girls ask for 150 or 200 I am reminded of the Amy Winehouse comment at a live concert, the audience make a noise after she announces the next song will be her last song. ´C´mon guys, have you never been to a live concert before?? I have to say that. . . . then I go off and you make some more noise and I come back on and do another couple of numbers, that´s how it goes fro goodness sake. The girls have to ask 150 or 200. It´s part of the game.

i took one from the praca de republica to a hotel around the corner. garota rs$100, hotel, rs$40. it was a real dissapointment. she was a bit drunk, no enthusiam. the girls at the praca are older (and uglier) than at locomotiva. bad attitudes. they are also allowed to drink by the pool in the hilton.

it is definitely worth the taxi fare to go to locomotiva.

rofl never thought of the hilton pool lol! am typing from there now.

did the early evening run. ahoras shut of course (and i am not keen on their rooms), paraiso about to shut. main road round to boulevard (seems worth the extra 2 mins to avoid those unlit streets). one doable but she looks lazy. the rooms here are much nicer than the bar, if not as nice as paraiso. surely they could afford a bottle of bleach once a year?? try docas. approached by two ok looking girls except they are well fed without looking fat and i think why bother when i can have a nice young skinny blonde branca at locomotiva. third one to give me the eye (at least these girls are making an effort) is more okay. chat to her for fifteen to twenty. she drops from 100 to r80 too quickly and i reckon i may have pitched too high. don´t want to take her to my hotel for various reasons. she suggests a motel (r25) ´near here´ - which to me means walking distance so am not chuffed when she suggests a taxi (tho at least i get a good look at her on the way to taxi rank. and if it is a 10r taxi that is walking distance. she complains too many ladros, but the area she suggests is not one i really want to walk to. eventually she agrees to an onibus but a bit late and i am losing interest a bit, say i´ll meet her one afternoon and maybe take her to my hotel. walk back up republica - why can´t they get some decent street lights?

just to pút things in proportion, front page news headline today in both papers is student street protests over bus fares rising to r1.85. an extremely graphic pic and story of a bloodied youth shot dead in the street is only page two or three. don´t think it was the same gun thing that rep001tered peeps momentarirly (but quite dramatically) during the saturday fiesta on praca republica. the hilton is soooo decadent! btw have sussed out the dance lesson options i asked about last year.

    Locomotiva

I am just back from Belem. It is true that P4P is not the reason to go there. It is a very interesting city, but I must say that the Locomotiva is as good as any place I have been in Brasil. Was there 3 times in January. Each time was better than the last. The other places in Belem were truly aweful though.

The girls at the Praca are older (and uglier) than at Locomotiva. Bad attitudes. They are also allowed to drink by the pool in the Hilton.

It is definitely worth the taxi fare to go to locomotiva.

not much change on last year or my reports then really. if you are staying near republica (as i am as my first two hotels of choice were full when i arrived), the hilton offers a cybercafe in its business centre which is open to non-residents. it´s hours are quite good (open till 10.30pm) but it is 6r an hour. whereas the smaller places, eg in aristides lobo just off vargas, a few yards from republica, charges only 2r. the kit is not quite so modern, the a/c is less aggressive, but the connection seems just as good. free wi-fi is advertised at estacao das docas, though i haven´t tried it. with hotels, i prefer belem soft for the few extra bucks over grau para or ferrador and the vargas cheapies, but although it is in a congenial upmarket area (good part of nazare) and has attractive and very helpful receptionists, it is slightly less convenient for everything else than those in the hilton/grau para/ferrador/block.

locomotiva - as mentioned before, the rate for the girl is 100r. i only discivered this when a girl from there i got friendly with downtown told me there was never any need to pay more than this. i noticed the other night that prices of rooms, the vast array, are listed at the back of the restaurant / drinks menu. i tried both the basic aircon room at r16 - nice - and the room with just a fan at 10r. i think there might be the tiniest improvement in decor in the pricier rooms from memory but not much. even the r10 room has frigibar, basic ensuite, fresh towels, and all extras at menu costs from condoms (though i prefer my own brasilian ones of choice) to sex toys. and the fan, which was more than adequate, makes less noise than the aircon. shows were first rate. quality of service depends on you and the girl. girls´ looks can be pot luck on the night, but there were plenty on saturday night - eg very tidy little branca 19yr old - id checked - who was also one of the best dancers. another branca i fancied - i only managed two that night, both with two pops and enjoyable pool and balcony moonlight chat in between - showed up at one of the blocos i went to yesterday. drinks - i either go for coconut juice (r2) or the (rather basic) caipirinha (r11). taxis there are a bit more than last year (just over r20 by meter rate weekend nights) but taxis here are always negotiable if you do it right. i am more concerned about finding one with ok tires and who doesn´t see red lights as little more than a high speed challenge. (taxis from the airport again, slightly higher - i was too lazy to walk the few yards to the bus stop.)

locomotiva, like the altas horas -type places, is shut on sundays (even boulevard was shut, although it it opens most hours up to 4am.) i am sure there are plenty of options but i was more interested in joining in the blocos.

one agency listed in the papers is eleeavip.com.br

as has been said before, don´t come to belem if your main interest is p4p - you can get it easier elsewhere without paying the airfare here. if you like living among brasilians and enjoying the culture without lots of tourists whose only interest is sex tourism, it´s great. as you will know, it also rains a lot.

40 is the norm for the girl. No need to accept the asking price.

price of knock-off CDs (the only sort you can buy here if you want a choice of more than a few standards) has dropped to 65 centavos

    About Locomotiva

    Hello gentlemen,

Back from Belem. Hilton costs 400 R$ per night for an executive room ( bargain by phone). Excellent location, and not as tatty as I was expecting. Nice view from the room, too. Swimming pool rather average. Not that an Hilton, anyway quite better than the Grand Para, which one didn't change for the best since last time I went in. Oh, there is an Ibis opening w/promotional rate at 99 R$, but don't know where it is.

Went to Locomotiva (25 R$ from Hilton/Republica on the way to the airport). I want to make it clear for the next ones to come:
    - Locomotiva is a kind of a complex, made of 1 pick-up bar, one boate, one hairdr'esser, one motel.
    - the pick-up bar is on your right hand when you enter. Open from 6pm I guess. Small, 3meters long bar, a dozen of chairs, a dozen of girls. May be depressive. Most people here are the ones who don't know the 'boate' itself opens only at 10pm. Th girls wait for the opening as well
    - the boate (in front of the small bar) stands as a place of shows. Entry rate: 10 R$ from 10pm on (it's free before but none here). No show is to be expected before midnight. Basic strip tease afterwards. Menu (regular food) and beverages not too overpriced. 40 girls were attending about midnight (was a Thursday).
    - the Motel - doesn't need to explain too much. Executive suite for 20 R$, grand suite for about 40.
The girls: I've been disapointed, probably it was not a good day. Too old & too greasy for 90% of them. I met however (in the bar, at 9:00) with a young mix of indian and crioula I think. Very slim and a good stripper. Long nipples. I'm so sorry I forgot her name. Not completa, but keen to please and to make me come twice. Staid 1,5 hour, gave her 100 R$ for her good will.

Music lovers should give a try to the Casa do Gilson by week ends: rodas de samba e choros, little restaurant, friendly place. Shitty facade in a vague suburb, but safe when indoor. All taxis know.

    All the best,
    GB

    Hello!
I was in Belem a few weeks ago, and I must say that the women here are among the most beautiful I have seen in Brazil.
I can very much recommend hotel Grao Para (www.hotelgraopara.com.br) 70reis/night
The location is perfect at Praça da Republica just 200meter from Hilton .

I visited the well known “fuckbar” Atlas Horas 3-4 hours every day!
Atlas Horas is just 10minutes walk from Praça da Republica

Atlas Horas is perfect for day mongers like me, it opens already 10 AM (Sunday closed)

I fucked 10 different girls ,totally 21 times in seven days! The price for the Chica is 50 Reis and 10 for the room. The rooms are upstairs and not so good.

If you want you can just pick up the Chica here and take her to a ST-hotel if you don’t like the rooms at Altas Horas.

I asked a Chica one day if she could do DPP (double pussy penetration)
Yes I can she said, and asked another man in the bar if he wanted to join us ? Of course he said !

You can see the pictures in the photo section.

There were streetwalkers (bad looking) in street , 1 de Marco (see picture 2366) for directions, its just one block from Praça da Republica

I found a new place not mentioned before in the forum in Rua Tomazia Perdigao (see picture 2367) for directions
It’s a Bar/Club similar to Altas Horas and others in Belem.

Hilton is right in front of Bar do Parque, on Praça da Republica, and at walking distance to Iguatemi Mall, a good place to chase non-pros and possible "semi-pros".

Location is unbeatable. Not cheap though.
