    Gauguin,

I am going to Belém in September. How would you compare the safety there compared to say São Paulo or Rio? In SP I stayed and worked for 8 months so if Belém is not more dangerous than that I will probably know how to stay out of trouble. Felt a bit unsafe going around Manaus in daytime as well, so perhaps Belém is similar.

This is my first posting. I liked Belem' a lot, and the information here already is pretty good. Docas is fine and fun, (very up-scale, you might think that you were in San Francisco), as is Locomotiva. But Belem is a big, big city, and though I have been there before, it took me days to figure a route out of the city by rental car to be able to get down to BR10 and into the Amazon jungle proper. Eventually I made it all the way down to Moju, and stayed on a dirt road in a hotel called Dos ViaJantes, for four bucks a night. It was a fabulous time.

However, Belem itself, the city proper, is very dangerous. Just be smart, on your toes, and avoid any sign of trouble. Walk away, or run as the case may be, lol. There will be trash fires buring in the street and the stentch of raw sewage can be overpowering. But it is still a city not to be missed.

What is missing here at WSG for Belem is a listing of all the hotels down along Avendida Pres. Vargas. You are not restricted to only staying at the Hilton, though it should be mentioned that the Hilton does have a fine room for internet connection.

In the end, after two days, I left the rather nice Hotel Biera Rio, directly on the river but a bit in the center of a Favela, for the Zoghbi Park Hotel just off of Pres. Vargas. However, there is also Vindinhos, Hotel Central, (very inexpensive), and another one that the name of which escapes me at the moment. I think my point is there are maybe a dozen hotels along Pres. Vargas and a person doesn’t really have to worry about finding a hotel room if you fly into town without a reservation. All hotels are girl friendly.

Oh, for the heck of it, here is a live webcam site from the Docas:

    El Culion,
    Could be the same place.

About SW girls in Belém. The girls at Bar do Parque, at Praca da Republica, holds a very low standard. I can recommend you to check out the girls working at the northern corner of Praca da Republica. At the intersection of Rua Oswaldo Cruz and Av Assis de Vasconcelos.

There are a bunch of girls hanging out at the benches under the trees. Including several universitystudents. Some of them are knock-outs.

    Cheers

My cab driver in Belem told me about a place called China cafe. Sadly, I was on my way to the airport to catch a plane back home when we had this conversation. I almost elected to stay one more day in Belem just to try the place out, except for the fact that I had a date with a gorgeous girl in Rio that afternoon. Apparantly, its a cafe with girls that also arranges outcall.

Does have any information on the China Cafe?

I think that the "regular girl" scene in Belem is pretty rich with opportunity (see Brazil Specialist's note below; this description of Docas jives with my own recent experience in Belem) , but having a good place for higher class ladies than the Parque do Bar (hooker park across the street from the Hilton) would make this place nearly perfect.

    Sperto,

Judging from your discription it's the same place I was taken to by some girls that I'd met at Mercadão Das Jóias in the town centre 2 years ago. It's the place with (I think) 2 stage floors and live bands where they sell beer by the bucket and with the floor slippery wet with sweat, isnt it? I remember quite well that the toilets are on your left as you enter.

If this is the place you're talking about, I wouldn't recommend it to "Beginners" or those who don't speak Portuguese. I think it's quite a rough place and the girls I was with wouldn't let me move anywhere without following me (not even to the toilet!) for fear of me being robbed.

I must admit, however, that I did like the atmosphere and enjoyed myself very much, but then again I had three female "bodyguards".

I have latino looks and everyone in Brazil thinks I'm Brazilian, but I'm not quite sure whether I would feel at ease if I were alone.

    Take care!

Thanks for the correction. I went to Locomotivo -- it's on the way to the airport. Good cheap sex. Not many cuties, but the finest girl I've gotten in Brasil (or at least top 5) was found there. She was like 40R and the room was 15R? Does that sound right? Waaaay cheap. It's really more of a huge beer hall with lotsa fat chicks walking around.

    Wish I was there!

Just got a report from a friend that at Docas there are lots of available semi pro girls

    Any comments from the experts??

    Here is the report >>>>>>>>>>>

Docas is a dock, it is the central entertainment district of the upper middle class in Belem. It is a 10 minute walk from the Hilton, which is across the street from the hooker park (Bar do Park).

We sat in a bar, and young girls walked by. My friend saw two from a distane that looked nice and invited them foir a drink. Within 5 minutes it was clear they were for rent.

I would guess tht about 50 girls walked by between 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm when we left. We left because my friend did not feel good about fucking the pretty girl and leaving me with the not so pretty girl. There are also girls in the street out side of the Docas area, and they are obviously for rent as well. None of the girls I have met at Docas are professionals.
    They are part time hookers.

That being said, making a deal with a young girl and then having her flee after a few kisses and getting her shirt off was crazy. I am quite certain that she was haviing doubts about the wisdom of being a prositute, even if it was a part time job. I suspect that the next guy who picks her up will be luckier than I.

JW : "O Lapinha" (not that this could have any importance !!) ..... anyway I heard that it's closed now and that "Locomotivo" (or "Locomotiva" !) is currently the best place in town to meet the best GDPs ...

    Cheers

Right -- I read my old report on it. It's "O Lapino." Sorry for the confusion.

    JWadd,
Not the same place. No bamboo or tropical environment at Paupilha. Sounds more like Africa, the disco close to the harbour.

  11. #22
I think I went there when I was in Belem in '01. Lotsa Bamboo, etc? Kinda tropical? It was fuckin' rough, now that I think of it. I guess I just had gotten used to it by now (on the trip). I did kinda bee-line toward the entrance when the cabby dropped me off. Also, the way was so circuitous to get there -- through suburbs w/o electricity or paving -- that I thought I was gonna be kidnapped. Anyway, the night I was there was dead. Fat garotas who used the toilet.

    Oh well,

    brazil specialist,

about paupilha (not 100% sure about the spelling). you might need to ask several taxi-drivers before you find one who will take you there. it´s a 15 reais-ride from the center.

i went there on a monday night. arriving there i understood that the taxi-driver was right, the area was rough, favela-style.

when i got out of the taxi everybody was just staring at me. i headed for the nearest food-stand. a lousy hamburger, a couple of beers and small-talk with the locals. when they understood that i had the same interests as them, that is beer and bundas, they quickly relaxed and opened up.

after 23.30 people started to enter the dance-hall, paupilha. it´s a half-open place with 2 bars, lots of tables and a big dance-floor. everything very simple, extremely noisy but still charming. funk and forró.

at midnight the place was crowded.
it´s not the safest place to visit. lots of guys had to leave their fire-arms at the entrance. police entered a couple of times looking around.

everybody were drinking, dancing and having fun. the girls were not shy, one stopped dancing in front of me, squatted, lifted her skirt and peed in the middle of the dance floor.

lots of cute girls who were very curious about the gringo. even though a lot of the guests looked very tough i found everybody friendly.

there were also a bunch of pro´s. cute girls, all dressed in tiny shorts and t-shirts written "club das safadinhas".
they propably bring their customers to a
house on the outside. even very tempted i passed. now i regret it. i choose to leave the place without a lady.

if you enjoy mixing with poor brazilians, drink beer, flirt and dance in a rough environment that might give you an adrenalinerush, then you should try out paupilha. i think you´ll enjoy it if you have the same curiosity (or stupidity) as me.

how to be safe? of course, no valuables and dress simple. relax, smile, make friends and don´t be paranoid.
go there before 23.00 so you can get acustomed with the environment.

    cheers

    Sperto,

Tell more about paupilha. This is a piece of new information. Where is it? Can you be specific

It is a disco for regular and low non-pros and pros alike? where do you take the girls to? sleazy back rooms?

You must be courageus, speak good portuguese, etc to dare to go to such a place. Or is there a way to be safe there? Like come early before everyone gets drunk and fights??

I am too shy to ask my Belem girl friend to confirm these details :-)

    Hi guyz!

Went to Belem on Biz trip but did not have a chance to enjoy the local cuties.

Went for dinner to The DOCAS and I grant you there were enough working girls walking around and waiting to be picked up.

Was told to a local friend that most of the time You just need to ask a taxi driver and within 15minutes he shows up with a bunch of girls, You make yr. choice give im 50R$ and walk away with a beauty.

As I said I did not try so I cannot confirm but the more I travel in this beatiful country the more this kind of things seem possible.

Pls. post yr, reports and opinions

    Hi.

    Read some earlier reports.

"Ver do Peso is over rated by the LP."
" I actually walked past the nearby port with lots of screamiong pigs all tied up until I got to a fort. Past here is another market, but pretty rundown."
"Hippy types sell there junk on the pavement, a lot of homeless sleep nearby infront of the Loja da Americas. "

Really interesting, but isn't the purpose of this forum to facilitate the exchange of information between men who are looking for sex with women?

    Sperto
