Thanks for the post. My friend lives near that hotel, hence the recommendation. I am not sure I'll have enough free (meaning alone) time to hit the downtown spots, but it is something I'd like to do. Also, I have heard talk of these Gentleman's Clubs in Savassi, but no names. Where can I find info?

Search the board (might not be up to date though). Pick up the tourist brochure as you arrive or from any tourist office. Ads in the paper and one or two specialist guides when you get there. If you want to try downtown, you don't need much time (walk in, select woman, pay 30R, f*ck, walk out) - avoid travelling in rush hour though as the roads from Savassi get clogged then.

Past posts list Sagitarius (http://www.newsagitarius.com.br/) and a few others. Also in relation to your hotel maybe (although I think there are one or two hotels with a similar name, eg Max S. Royal S. . . . and El Greco's price, even a couple of years back, sounds cheap for a five star hotel though maybenot impossible):

Stayed at Savassi hotel for R105 single. Small, business type hotel, clean and confortable.

Nice area to stay with cafes and restaurants around. Ask the reception for a nice churascaria two streets behind the hotel. They recomended it for me.
They can also show you,if asked, a few photo catalogues with girls to choose from for R120/hr. I did choose a nice titty student (they all claim that they are students). She arrived within 20 min, service was good but nothing special.

Visited Rua Guaycurus a few times for about R7 taxi ride. Best selection of girls and most clean rooms at #660. Had solos for R15 and nice time twice with two different couples (mulata & blond) for R30 each. I remember I was taking double time doubling the price too. So for R60 had a trio twice for almost an hour. It was real fun. Planing to go back this October.

Also visited a couple of private places but didn't stay.Also went to the boite accros the street from hotel but was not worth staying.

Going back to downtown, I just saw an old online academic report quoting "almost 20 hotels where over 2,000 women make a living as sex workers." (http://hcc.med.vu.nl/artikelen/chacham.htm) Damn it - I forget to count . . .

It is maybe a place that involves less walking (except up and down stairs) for researchers than any other high intensive fixed workroom RLD I can think of offhand (sorry the caption is in Spanish but I'm sure you can work it out lol)

i am going to bh for the first time next week to see a non-gdp friend of mine. i have been to rio many times, and know the terma culture there pretty well. my friend has suggested that i stay in the savassi hotel in bh. two questions; does anyone know this hotel, and is it permissible to bring friends back to your room there? any info i can get would be appreciated.

i put off replying in case someone had better info as i haven't stayed there.

the hotel is several miles out of the centre. if it's in savassi, that is a great area for many things. place to take a girlfriend, non-mongering nightlife and so on. there are some upmarket mongering options you might enjoy (i stuck to the cheaper stuff downtown as i had limited time) and it's a nice westernised, upmarket suburb - reminded me of the u.s. actually.

bh is a fairly big city so i'm guessing the chances people know individual hotels away from the main strips may be low.

bh on the whole is not 'crazy' like rio is. buses travel at a normal (safe) speed, it's pretty safe, and you don't get pestered. posh gentlemen's clubs were advertised in the tourist brochure last year.

if you like swank hotels, the down-and-dirty may not be your scene (you mention rio termas but there's a big diff between 4x4 - think posh savassi - and the 10r places or vm - think bh concrete knock-shops that are walking distance from centro).

if you're unphased by grubby, bh concrete brothels are quite an attraction: converted cheap hotels where each room door is left ajar (with ho beckoning) until you accept the business on offer. lots of 'em. almost next door to each other (see earlier posts).

Quite correct of course. Especially with the half-length condoms sold by many major manufacturers.

I´m so pleased you enjoyed it Jake! One of the things I like about the place is its compactness - many great watering holes in a small lake of joy so to speak. Some of the girls offered me phone numbers as well but I didn´t have time to invite them back for the night at the hotel - might be worth a try if you feel a good rapport though.

Absolutely. Belo is quite westernised and doesn't have the determination to be mental that seems a prerequisite for living in say RJ. Guaricus is a run-down area (looks better just after the streets are cleaned and the brothel stairs are washed down) but safe enough. Same for round the station, although that's slightly more hairy-looking at night. The brothels are well policed. The only time I felt threatened was when I had a slight disagreement with a woman. The bouncers politely escorted me to the top of a disused iron staircase where I coughed up some cash.
