I lived in Florianopolis for a little over a year and just moved out in June. I wanted to address your questions.

P4P scene:

You won't be blown away by the P4P scene here if you have been to Rio / SP, but I have had lots of fun. Most of the P4P action is in Centro. Check out the post on this thread from last May and my posts from 2016. All of this information is valid as Floripa scene changes very slowly. I usually recommend going to Floripa for 5 days and Rio for 5 days to friends who visited me. We do more beach / nature stuff in Floripa and more P4P / clubbing in Rio.

There are also a couple P4P clubs over the bridge. Ask your Uber drivers about the P4P clubs. They will gladly take you as the clubs pay them for bringing in gringos.

Where to stay:

If you stay in Centro in December, there will be tons of traffic going to / from any of the beaches. Easily 2 hours if you want to leave your house around 9-11 am.

Lagoa de Conceicao is BY FAR my favorite all things considered. This neighborhood gives you fast / easy access to great beaches (Mole, Joaquina, Barra the Lagoa) but there isn't a P4P scene here (Uber to centro is about $10 US).

North island (Jurere / Daniela / bravo) is like a beach town in Florida. I find it boring.

South Island has the most beautiful virgin beaches but is super quiet at night. I'd recommend going for 1 night if you like that type of thing.

Transportation:

Uber is the way to go. Renting / driving a car is super stressful as cars and motorcycles drive recklessly, DUI is not enforced whatsoever. Cars will rear end you at 4 am and speed away. Avoid the hassle and save some money by using Uber. (It only makes sense to rent a car if you are going to a different city in Santa Catarina).

Language:

English is not widely spoken here. The younger people working at restaurants / cafes / hostels in Lagoa will speak English, that's about all. Spanish is somewhat commonly spoken. I kept a Portuguese phrasebook in my pocket for the first 2 months I lived there.

Weather:

After 2 months of living in Floripa, I stopped looking at the weather report. It is the unbelievably inaccurate. In November 2016, we had a cyclone that wiped out electricity in the whole island and there was literally nothing in the weather report that indicated inclement weather. If you are a surfer, search for cameras at Barra the Lagoa & Joaquina in the morning before you leave.

Other Entertainment:

Go to a few hostels in Lagoa de Conceicao and ask the front desk what you should see / do in Floripa. Hostel workers will speak English. Alternatively, Tripadvisor has decent information on what to do / where to go. This island (and the surrounding area) has endless eco-tourism.

I stayed in Florianopolis for a month a few years ago but it was in June. It rained practically every day and the rain was continuous, not just a morning shower. Of course, this was in the winter but I reckon the rain pattern would be the same in the summer.

I love Brazil. I am planning a trip to Florianopolis in December. Just a few weeks away. For those that have been there before-based upon my research, I am planning to stay in CENTRO. Does this make sense? I will be staying 2 weeks, and beach time is OK but not a determining factor as to where I stay. Normally I try to stay near the centro area. This is where the action is. I am confused about Florianopolis seems like there are many cities and I am not sure where to plan on staying. HELP.

Arrived in Floripa and hit the ground running. I stayed about 20 steps from praia do campeche. A really beautiful wide beach. It felt like I had the whole beach to myself on my stay. I highly recommend it if you like beaches. The weather wasn't great for my stay but I got to enjoy that beach as well as Praia Mole, Joaquino and Santino.

I hit up Vivalocal to get numbers and address of places around town. Like a previous post stated, a lot of the girls don't look like their post and they give you the run around. They wouldn't tell me exactly where to go. They would say things like go to Banirisul and text me when you are there. Or go to this building and text me when you are there. Then they would give you the address. So annoying. The other spots I found just walking around getting flyers.

1) Rua Marechal Guilherme 103. Pamela. Whatsapp 48 8847 6509.
