    Hotel rates

    Gentlemen,

It seems that Fortaleza is a great place for good weather and fun. I am planning to spend my 2 months vacation there.

I need your valuable expertise. Would it be possible to rent a room in hotel or condo for 15-20 USD per day for 2 months?. Preferably not far from the beach and action. And how safe are those places? – I mean would it be safe to leave your valuables in the room, or would it be better to rent a safe box somewhere? Also do they have rules on night visitors ?

    Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanx in advance

Thanks for the info. This will help me make up my mind if going or not.

I'll be in Sosua this weekend but I'm looking at 2009 for Brazil.

I think you'll be the sensation for all the GP's.
Most mongers are white males. Italians, Dutch and Scandinavians.
I can't imagine that you'll have any problems at all.

Rooms and flights will be expensive because of Brasilians taking their holidays at that season. You need to plan and reserve ahead.

Chicas plenty although better by mid of January onwards.

Many of them go to their villages for Xmass.

Police held a parade on Beira Mar, last time I was there, in order to show to the public their new Toyota cars.
There was a serious girl fight once and two of those cars arrived within three minutes. They also have cameras to watch their backs.

    Fortaleza safety

It's good if the police do a cleanup in the Beira Mar and Iracema area.
They could take a big truck and fill it with all the scum hanging around McDonalds and drive them far away out to a small village in the sertão.

Another truck has to be filled with the pick-pocketscum hanging in the ho-crossing in Iracema. These bastards are shameless. Every night the same guys comes back and pick-pocket the gringos. Just next to the police station.

It's a kind of fun watching how these kids work as some of them are quite clever. Like when they wait for a taxi to stop. The gringo in the backseat takes up his wallet to pay the driver. The kid pass and quickly snaps his wallet through the open window and runs away.

Remember that the piers are not always safe places to namorar. There is one very long stone pier just in the beginning of the Iracema area, close to where they play football. That pier is quite popular for namorar as it's very dark and deserted out there.

Once I was halfway out on that pier having sex with a GF. A guy with a gun went out on the pier and robbed all the couples on the far end of the pier. When the robber returned towards the beach I noticed that something wasn't right. I actually asked the robber politely, when he passed by, if he was interested in my money as well? He wasn't that polite as his only answer was "Cala boca, gringo!". Me and my GF was the only couple he didn't rob.

    About safety, Beira Mar

After a major increase in violence and serious robberies (including knives and other guns) in the tourist areas along the Beira Mar and inward in Praia Iracema has lead to that the city government is now taking hold.

With the exception of the area at the fish market, (which is close to the favela in the western end of the Beira Mar and robberies have been reported), I have always considered the strip to be safe during the daytime and evenings, even if pocket theft may occur.

From now and into the high season police are establishing posts every 600 meters and also patrol the 3 to 4 kilometer long Av. Beira-Mar with horses and car patrols.

In this way, they wish to increase security for the many tourists who frequent this area.
