As I traveled around Brazil (Rio-Recife-Fortaleza-Manuas-Salvador-Rio), IMHO there were "beautiful" women everywhere. But like I've said I like women of various looks, shapes and sizes (expect fat, out-of-shape and women with major "bad" attitutides that rub me the wrong way!!)

So having said that IMHO "pretty & beautiful" is in the "eye of the beholder"!!

I am also a "butt" man and Manuas is did not disappoint. I am very much inagreement, with you, that the women in Fortaleza in general didn't have a "great ass". So in general the women in Manaus do have a better "ass" then those in Fortaleza, but in general not as good as Rio.

Fortaleza is a very lovely town, but has IMHO not much pretty girls, especially if you are a butt lover, like me. Thanks for the kudos. Yes I would say a most things are somewhat cheaper, but other things are slightly more expensive due to cost of importing goods a greater distance.

As for marriage, I'll say this much, "I don't think I've been in a Brazilian city were I haven't seen a girl I wouldn't marry"

Most of the dance clubs are Brazilian and I think there is a healthy mix of pros/semi-pros and non-pros. But try the malls for non-pros. So-so Portuguese will help.

Cannot help you on Malaria? I was only in Manacapuru for 2-days and other places for a couple hours. If your going trekking in the jungle then better to be safe than sorry. Brazilian pharmasists will help you out, check with them.

----Manaus November 27/02 to December 04/02
Sorry for the dely of report. Not enough is written about where to stay in relation to the action. So Manaus was very difficult with regards to determining, where the best place for maximizing your R$, between taxis, hotels, motels and hobby mongering.

So much has been said about Ponta Negra and Bar Laranjiha, that I thought, this would be a good area to stay, close to the action at Bar Laranjinha. NOT!!! The ONLY hotel in Ponta Negra, is The Tropical Hotel (owned by Varig, I think) and they want upwards of US$250/night. Yikes!! No money for the honeys. If you have that kind of money, all the power to you. It’s a great hotel and has some wonderful venues, services and shows for their guests. All very touristy (albeit for a hefty price). Not my cup of tea.

Quick point of observation. There are some great apartments that are being build there (about one million Reais (R$) a pop). I think the city plans to build out this area in Ponta Negra, into a “novo rich” community. Hopefully, more like a small Copacabana, beach resort area. I believe in 5 to 7 years, this will be a “hot” area to visit, hopefully with more hotels and mongering clubs, nearer to the beach.

The other possible alternative is to stay at a motel, if you wish to be closer to the beach and Bar Laranjinha action. (Note: Motels in Brazil are sex motels). Motels like Isis, Aphrodite, Del Rey, (I think) are located on the way to Ponta Negra and Playboy or Eros are in south centro. Some are located somewhat closer to Ponta Negra, but overall it is about the same distance from downtown. Again not the greatest solution, but not bad for about R$40-50/night, if you can put up with the cries of passion from other mongers, day and night. I never tried any of these motels, but from other posts, they appear to be excellent. Again this is not a hotel or peusdo.

Back to the question at hand, where is the best place to stay in Manaus? Well IMHO, centro (downtown) is probably the best place. At first I doubted this, but after I begin to find strip clubs, SW and the likes, I realized centro (downtown) offered the best combination of adult entertainment for the “best bang for the buck”, which is what I was looking for.

If any of you expert Manaus hobby mongers know of any good hotels or apartments in Ponta Negra or other good locations to stay at, could you please post? Even though downtown is turned out to be better, it would be nice to stay in accommodations closer to the beach, for a few days.

---Day 1
I flew into Manaus (on Varig) from Fortaleza, on a two hop, milk run, stopping at Sao Luis and Belem. Some tour guide agent at the airport, that was very helpful, recommended the Kyoto Plaza Hotel in downtown. I love haggling. So although the taxis wanted R$40-45, I managed to talk one taxi down to R$25 (more money for the honeys).

If you wish to take the bus, it passes by the airport about every 40-30 minutes and takes about 40 minutes to reach downtown. The bus stop is just outside. Ask information (or follow the locals across the street) at the airport if you not sure. Be sure to pick up a map.

Kyoto Plaza Hotel, great cheap hotel (R$38) that is very GF friendly. It isn’t the Taj Mahal by any stretch of the imagination (a bit if a hole actually, but convenient for hobbists). However, it was quite busy and had no vacancies a few days. But if your just looking for cheap roof over your head, GF friendly policy (no charge, no identifications checks) and comes with the inclusion of “café de manha” (breakfest), then this is your castle. It is under going new mgmt, spoke with the owner’s son and they are really going to restore the hotel back to it former self.

A number of widely priced hotels exist in cento (downtown).

Unpacked, then headed for something to eat, stepped out of the hotel and what did I see, this cute garota, walking down the street in a tight skirt and a hot pink alter top. Wow!! I tracked her down and talked this 20 year old hard body garota, into coming back to my hotel to continue the conversation. Wow!! I’m not here more than an hour and kitty action, right on my door step.

So we parted company and I got something to eat. Its early in my visit and there always plenty more where that came from. The garotas that is!

Walked around a little and got my bearings. Women in the streets are definitely sexy and good looking. Lots of women in tight clothing and very revealing outfits. It gets very hot here, some 35-40C degrees. So its great to see even less clothing on women. I took this to mean a good indication that the women here are hot and are very sexy and not body consciously shy. Most have a native indian look to them, that’s very sexy. Mostly moreans and native indian type beauties, but not as many blacks or whites. (I just love the different and diverse looks that Brazilian women have from all different cities). Afterwards I hit the sack and get some sleep, ready for the night’s activity.

Walked down to the main bus station downtown (across from the pier/docks) to catch a taxi, to go from centro to Bar Laranjinha (Ponta Negra). First night and I forget to go the ATM (they are not-in-service after 10pm) and I didn’t want to spend about R$60 on taxi cabs (R$30 there and R$30 back), with no money for late night food, drinks and the honeys.

At the time (11:15pm) I couldn’t figure out which bus to take to get me there, so I notice a few bars in the vicinity of the bus station. The bars by the bus station clubs are some real hell hole drinking and dancing establishments. Go at your own risk. It’s not that you’d necessarily get mugged or robbed, it’s just that your likely to put an eye out, due to the garotas being so ugly, fat and ugly and waaayy below average.

So I hit the Policia Militar town square (located one block from Kyoto Hotel), looking for some SW action. A few younger SW types, nothing special, just average with attitude. Not for me! Few beer drinking mamas seating in the square swilling down the beer. Again nothing great! At the time I thought, if this is all there is, I not going to make thru the week. I hit my hotel and call it a night.

---Day 2
Café de Manha, then time for a walk-about again. Check out local downtown business life and figure out this city works. Time to buy a map!

I think buying a map is one of the best investments you can make when visiting a Brazilian city. The map of Manaus was impressive and even indicates night clubs, bars, restaurants, bus stations, malls and even motels. Not sure why I didn’t get a map at the airport (just tired, I guess), but after the 2nd day I picked one up from a newsstand for about R$5.

Buses to take:
1. 120 – Ponta Negra, for the beach, Bar Laranjinha and Manaus Zoo
2. 424 – Cidade de Deus (City of God) for Manaus Mall, Inpa and Jardim Botanico
3. 635 – Aeroport (Airport) (Note: I think its 635. You can catch the bus here)

So I head out towards Ponta Negra, by bus to check things out. This pre-night trip, would also help me get a good look at the lay of the land and allow me to figure out how to get there later that night. At the end of the bus ride, was the Tropical Hotel. I walked around the beach area and the grounds, which are very lush, very green and well maintained. It was nice to see how the “fat cats” were living. Again very expensive. I inquired about the night club in the hotel, but was informed that it was closed for renovations. Not sure if that was true or not! Does anyone know if this true and whether or not its now open?

Checked out the beach action at Ponta Negra. Didn’t think much of beach, Praia do Ponta Negra, or the lack of garotas to be found. Definitely not your typical fine white sandy, people crowed beach, like those found in Rio, Recife or Fortaleza. Maybe it was an off day for beach life? As reported in the WSG archives, the bars and beach area is located about 500 meters from the Tropical Hotel.

Although the beach action was weak, the beach bars (Bar Laranjinha and other beach bars) located below street level, closer to the beach, seem to be teaming with some action (about 15 girls). I noted a few garotas with some “fat cat” hobby mongers and was somewhat impressed by the bodies on some of these girls. As I sat eating my peixe fritas (em p. fried fish), a few garotas were giving me the “eye”. I thought about it, but realized they’d be nowhere to ride the kitty. At 10pm I head for the bus station and take the #120 onibus to Ponta Negra and Bar Laranjinha. Yeh!! I know I can be cheap sometimes, but there’s a method to my madness. I find that taking the bus, often gives me time to check out local life and the local hotties. Often times I get to make-out like the “dumb tourist” and make conversation. I’ve actually made a lot of friends and garota friends, this way. It can be very interesting at times.

The bus ride takes about 30min (faster a night, less triffic) and I begin to check out the action. Well I was somewhat disappointed with the quality of garotas at Bar Laranjinha. Only saw about 20 girls and was expecting a lot more. Mostly 6s and 7s, and the odd 8, all with high expectation of getting about R$150. I think a few of them will get this from some of the “fat cats” from the Tropical Hotel. I walk for a while in the direction of centro and find a couple of strip bars. While I wait for the bus back into centro (which runs every 30min from Ponta Negra, until about 12:30am), I decided to pay the R$3 cover to check them out. But they both turn out to be very dirty, dilapidated and the garotas, along with the shows very boring. Both are located on the main road Av. Ponta Negra, about a 5-7 minute walk from Coracao Blue.

So after almost two days of running up and down in this hot and run-down jungle town, I was beginning to think, I had wasted my time, effort and money coming to Manuaus.

And then Voila!!! Like magic, I find Remulo’s Strip Tease Club (Rua Lobo D’Almada). Maybe by purely happenstance, maybe it was my great exploratory and investigative skills. (Although, Rua Lobo D’Almada, had been previously mentioned, I forgot re-read my notes like a good hobbyist should.).

This place has excellent strip tease, lap dance, table dance, private dancing and motel rooms for pussy fucking action. The place itself is somewhat of a dive, but the action is great. Mostly pros but there is some semi-pro action to be had. That night about 1:30pm, their were still about 40-45 girls in action, with maybe more (I imagined) getting jiggy in the motel rooms upstairs. There were also other strip club in this area, although I did not try any others, judging by the scores of taxis, garotas and local mongers, it was the probably the best. As I walked back to my hotel (note, in Manaus, I felt very safe), at about 3:30am, I saw that there were SW action, in and around this area, close to Remulo’s, near the opera house (Teatro Amazonas, Rua 10 de Julho) as reported in WSG. Most of the SW action here looked like 4s and 5s. But don’t get them confused with the TVs that are also located close to SW action. The SW will tell you where the TVs are. On another night I toyed with some of the SW and found out they will go as low as R$25 and R$30 for a couple hours.

---Day 3
I figure I ought to get in some actual touristy type activities to mask some of my hobbying. I had investigated trips and decided to venture out to Manacapuru, which is located about 1.5 – 2 hours into the Amazonas interior, by onibus. But first you cross the Rio Negra, by ferry, to the small village Cacaupireira (sp??).

So just as I step out of my Kyoto hotel room, my neighbour, this French dude, Eric, is returning from doing his laundry and we get to talking. Turns out he is a semi-pro monger, that has the good luck of being able to teach French/Portuguese at the university for 6 months. Lucky Dog!! Also very coincidently, he was planning on a trip to Manacapuru, today, with a Brazilian friend of his that has family in Manacapuru. And it just so happen to be the Cowboy Festival that weekend as well. Wow!! I couldn’t have scripted it any better. Well maybe!!

Spent the rest of the day partying with my new found friends and family in Manacapuru. Brazilians are very hospitable and I am treated like one of the family. My Brazilian friend’s family treated me to dinner, breakfast and a nice roof over my head, all for free. Wow!! Naturally I brought a ton of groceries, as a token of my gratitude. Kudos to Brazilian hospitality.

---Day 4 and Day 5 (Day)
More partying, general chit chat (in 3 languages, English, French and Portuguese) and skirt chasing the local girls, with my new found friends in Manacapuru.

Paradiso de Angelo is a must visit. This place is gorgeously wonderful and spectacularly beautiful. It’s situated right on the Rio Solimoes/Rio Amazonas river. Swimming in the river was great. Had the good fortune of renting a boat from Paradiso de Angelo and venturing across to river to see an indian burial ground. Fantastic!!

There is some SW action, but your best bet is trying to score in one of the night clubs. Most SW looked to be 4s and 5s. You’ll probably need to be able dance some Forro, Swing, Samba and/or Pagodge (sp??). Also speaking some Portuguese would help, but is not a necessity. Spent most of my time at the Cowboy Festival and the outdoor bars. Lot of rabble-rousing and hoopla in the streets. They sure can party here!! And party they do, till 6am in the morning, right in the street, with their car stereos blasting. Different!!

I would not recommend Manacapuru solely for mongering, although I do believe there are hints of hobbying here and there (as I was getting the “eye” from the occasional on looker). The girls are cute and friendly here, but you may need ample time to build a GF type relationship to score. However, it’s a excellent break from Manaus (especially on the weekends) and if you bring a GF type girl from Manaus, you’ll have a great time with lots of partying to be had!!

I recommend staying at least one night at Paradiso de Angelo. Your GF will love you for it

Around 10:30pm, I head to Bar Laranjinha, so see if things are any different. Well not really. The garotas were about the same, average overall. Same show same type of touristy stuff. I quickly check with the girls that Coracao Blue was open tonight and then did a little walking to checkout other things near by. today I was at the tropical doctors were I live. He said that I could best take "Malarone" against Malaria.
The sides effects are very few compared to older medicine (like Lariam).
But the price was expensive.
For 22 Tablets I had to pay € 60,-....:-( That hurt.

The floating place you mention was Flutuante Paulista, but it closed. Where is another one nearby, but by far not the same level as Paulista. On a sunday afternoon you could be luckly, but I wouldn't spend the time on it.

The other places are still
