i wrote this post several days ago before the brasil section was organized by region. it was a reply to the above quote.

i thought it would be useful to use it as the first post for the manaus section. manaus is lacking more info about the scene. the reason is because the area is isolated from the rest od the country,only connected to rest of brasil by air or river. some people might assume that it is because there isn't one. yes, there is a great scene mainly for semi-pro and regular girls.

so here is my report, i hope it is useful to all those seeking info to decide whether to go or not.

i travel to manaus very often for business, i’ve been there many times, in 2004 i went three times, and in two of them i stayed more than 6 weeks. in addition, my best friend lives there and he is brazilian, whenever i go i stayed at his home in centro.

manaus indeed has a lot of girls of indian descent but you will find all the colors here. whites/blondes are scarce though compared to rio or even recife. don’t expect to find lots of good-looking, refined, gorgeous blonde/ caucasians babes of the gisele bundchen-type as you would in rio, sp and the south. if that is what you are looking for, you came to the wrong place. however, it should be noted that this city is the second largest industrial city in brazil after sp, as such there are a lot of “immigrants” from the south who come to work in the free zone as executives and professionals and have made manaus their home. they are the wealthy elite of the society and the girls belonging to this group fit the blonde type. however, they are often the spoiled snobbish types that only go to the better nightlife spots.

that been said, manaus has a huge, thriving pro, semi-pro and amateur scene at a fraction of the rio and sp costs, you can find everything to satisfy your most varied mongering appetites

in the pro scene you have a handful of good places to find p4p activity. to find it ask any taxi driver or people working at your hotel. in centro, the area surrounding teatro amazonas is a bustling commercial area during the day and red light zone at night with many seedy bars and lots of sw and tv. 2 blocks west of the theater you find rua lobo de almada full of brothels and bars covering both sides of the street. the most infamous is remulos which is a huge, disturbingly dark, dirty place with plastic tables and chairs with a huge, catwalk-type stage in the middle. the stage is like 3 meters high so the drunkards can not grope the strippers. the place is full of local low-income working brazilians looking for a cheap fuck and your occasional tourist. entrance is r3, local beer is r1.50 and imported is r2-3, room upstairs is r10 and the girl is r50-60 for 1 hr.

i liked it so much that while in town i used to go there every nigh. quality has gone down dramatically in the last year, in the past you found 100-200 women with many 6s and 7s and occasional 8s, some of them blondes from south. in october there were 2 guys for every girl with 90% dogs (minus 10s in the scale if that is possible) and the 2-3 doable girls where snatched on the stairs when returning from the rooms upstairs. during my last trip in december i didn’t even bother to go. very sad indeed.

at kiss on avenida taruma you find an upscale (for manaus) place with partial nudity strippers catering to japanese patrons in executive assignments for the free zone companies. 15-20 good looking girls (6s-7s) going for r100-r200 according to your negotiating abilities, you can do them in-house or to go. the problem here is you have to compete with the rich and dumb japanese many of them just arrived in town. admission is like r20 and beers are like r5 ( don’t remember exactly). for me is the nicest place in town, very comfortable, cushy, table service is very good. is the only brothel whose premises are specifically designed for a bar/night club in town. you enter and sit down on comfy sofas and watch the shows, girls hang out by the bar or pool tables and won’t come to you uninvited.

very far from centro near the airport (in the city outskirts about 15 km from centro) at the intersection of avenida do turismo and av. santos dumont is what the locals call “terma” kild but not quite the type of rio terma because there are no robes or sandals involved. kild is considered an upscale place, it’s a big house remodeled to a bar/brothel configuration. there is an outdoor patio with a pool with tables and chairs. next to the patio there are several additions, wood rooms, where the programas are done. next to the patio, separated by a sliding glass door, is what was a living room with a bar and sofas. your r$40 admission includes a 20-minute massage with the garota of your choice. there are 10-15 girls in-house from 5s to 7s who usually hang out by the pool. you sit in your table, order drinks and invite any girls you like to sit with you, she will try to order the most expensive drink in the house (red bull for r20 or champagne for r 200 a bottle) this is a very expensive fucking little place with astronomical prices, they only make money from admissions and the bar. don’t let your garota order; instead order you for her.

the programa is optional: r100 for 1 hr payable directly to the girl but she will try to get r150 from you. negotiate prices and menu upfront. you go to the room and have your 20-minutes massage during which she will try to sell the non-obligatory programa. of course, when she starts massaging your dick there is 99.9% possibility she will persuade you. what i do is i take the massage and at the end of the 20 minutes i tell her i want the 1-hour programa. if you don’t do it like this she will give you a 20-minute massage followed by a 40 minute programa instead of your 80 minutes.

what i liked about this place is the owner brings “models” from sp for upscale clients. when i went there were two gorgeous girls, one of them featured in sexy magazine, a hot blond i already forgot her name. she wanted r500 for an hour so i passed. however, i asked her cell number because i was hoping to meet her outside working hours to be able to negotiate a better price for an all-nighter. the funny thing is that 1 week later i found her at a party at ponta negra beach, she apparently was happy to see me because the champagne i paid for her at kild and wanted to continue to party until dawn with a couple of her friends (also gps). she wanted to go to another place and i offered to pick up their tab. i was really excited by the prospect of a free night with a semi-drunk model babe. she and her friends were in great spirit and drinking a lot of beer. we went to parque 10 the only place open at that hour to drink beer and ate crab. unfortunately for me, i felt unexpectedly sleepy and so tired that i had to go home before the good part began. that upset her. since they were riding with me i offered a ride home or money for the cab but she wanted more. i felt she was unreasonable since i had behaved like a gentleman so i gave her r30 and went home. next time i saw her insisted on r500 so i forgot about her. i had blown my chance. i also met another kilt girl after hours for an all-nighter. all the girls i did at kild where very good experiences and all of them cum while in the programa, including one who came twice, they all really enjoy their work.

when manauenses want to enjoy outdoor activities they go to ponta negra (ponta negra beach on the amazon river) at the end of avenida or estrada da ponta negra about 15 km from centro. the area has been developed in recent years for outdoors leisure activities: parks, sport courts, bars, and restaurants, even an amphiteather. rich people are moving in great numbers to this area, the most expensive real estate in manaus. here too there are places to pick up pros and semi-pros like bar laranjinha about 200 meters from the hotel tropical at the end of avenida da ponta negra. it's an open-air bar/restaurant next to the amazon river with a great view. you will see several tables with groups of women sitting, most of them are trying to pick up a tourist staying at the hotel. i have not seen anything worthy though i never looked for action here. laranjinha has shows featuring cute very young girls (mostly teens) with killer bodies shaking their bumbums to the carefully choreographed famous danca do boi. their bodies are barely covered with “taparabos” (the tiny piece of clothing tarzan wears) and feathers. all these girls appeared to be regular girls and never heard about them doing programas.

away from centro, at night, along the main arteries you will see a lot of sw, some of them pretty. they can be found on ave. djalma batista in the amazonas shopping area. also at the plaza da policia in centro music bands attract a lot of locals to sit at open-air tables and drink beer, many regular girls with some pros and semi-pros among them. also there are many apartments (prives) with girls available for programas all over town, quality is a lot better than sw. i only know a couple of them and will write about them when i get more info. there are many other places in the pro scene but i have not been in them. buy the journal a critica and look for “acompanhantes” and “masagens” in the clasiffieds just like everywhere else in brasil.

semi-pros and amateur scenes

the reason is that the semi-pro and amateur scenes are much better and more rewarding. there are loads of young, good-looking, attractive girls available to the regular monger, and the good news is this city is one of the few places in brazil where your typical gringo draws a lot of attention from the locals and is welcomed with lots of smiles.

tourist, although not rare, are the center of attention for the local young girls so regular, non-pro girls can be had in large quantities if you know where to look for them. to accomplish this you should be able to achieve some degree of communication, if you can’t then your best opportunity is to hook up with a local who knows where to go and the nightlife.

to meet available regular and semi-pros you go to pagode or forro venues. pagode is the music from bahia also know as axe, i love when the girls shake their booties to the music of e o tchan or terra samba, it is spectacular, you should take a look at this dance it is amazingly sexy. forro music is the equivalent to country music, in fact they say it was originated in the american bases in brazil during wwii when they took american country music and customize it. unlike pagode this is a dance for pairs. the dancing steps are also quite spectacular and those who dance spend a lot of time mastering them, the result is a rhythm amazing to see. these parties (or dances) take place every day of the week at different venues rep001tered all over the city. there are always a lot more girls than men in these events, usually the ratio is 2 to 1, it is even better in forros. brazilians believe that there are 10 women for every man in the amazon while in the rest of the country is 7 to 1. when my friend told me this i thought it was ridiculous but when i go to forros it looks like it is true. anyhow, these events are full of available single young girls looking for some fun and romance.

now, when they see a foreigner in a forro (or pagode) they appreciate that you seem to be interested in their culture, so you become the center of attention even more in a such a welcoming place for tourists (if they knew why you are really there). the girls will drop by to say hi and meet the gringo and you use your best charms to make them laugh while they try to teach you some steps.

i used to go to forro meu xodo every sunday with my brazilian friend fabrizio. this venue is located far from the city in a place called balneario de taruma (pond of taruma i think is the exact translation). to get there you take the torquato tapajos highway (the one going to venezuela) and then take the estrada do taruma 3 kms inland. this balneario is a river pond very popular with the locals. anyhow, every time i went there i would leave with a group of 2 or 3 girls, 18 to 22, any of which i could have, and best of all regular non-prostitute girls. i got 2 girlfriends (klycia and ana) there and numerous invitations for get to know girls more intimate. i also met a girl (already forgot her name) who, after knowing me for 2 weeks, walked up to me telling me she needed money to fix her braces, and that she would repay me with “services”. i gladly accepted. every time i went there i would leave with the car full of girls to continue the party in some other place.

I will tell my experience at that time, 'cause I think that the situation hasn't changed a lot and could be interesting for all the mongers to know some tips.

I took the bus, everybody was looking me, I don't think that many gringos take a bus there in that part of the city far from the center.

The bus to the centro was a long ride (about 40 minutes) and I passed through various favelas and other places, but also near an horrible favela build ON the water, very strange.

I arrived in the centro and walked safe to my hotel. It was about 11:00 AM, I was tired but happy: I had had other one-night stand experiences in my life of course, but never in such a crazy way. I took a risk following those girls just met in the central plaza, but finally I got an unforgettable experience.

I regret because I had to leave Manaus the same day, because I'm sure that there, if you are a bit smart, you can get laid for free with a new regular girl at least once a week, fucking semi-pros or non-pros working girls in the other days of the week for about 50 r$.

Yes, they do have ATMS in Manaus but as I experienced Banks that accept your cards in Rio or São Paulo may not necessarily work in Manaus – don’t ask me why - I never discovered the reason why Banco 24 and Banco Itaú ATMs kept rejecting my cards in Manaus but worked in other cities perfectly.

However, in this day and age frankly I am often surprised by people who still prefer to carry cash around with them for a vacation when there are a number of safer options available to obtain funds. Most bank have clearing arrangements between them this means that if you have a regular check-in account and have a card with that account (Visa or Mastercard) you can draw out money from your account in local currency; first check with your bank if you can use it overseas and with which branches or what facilities they have for you to obtain money. Most banks will charge you for this service but it’s a lot less than drawing cash on your credit cards.

If you intend to remain in Brazil for a long period the third option would be opening up a bank account that has branches in Brazil, CitiBank or HSBC etc.

Generally, ATM cards with Visa or Mastercard logo are good ways to get money at the best exchange rate. I don't see any reason why this should be different in the Amazon region then in Rio. Of course, provided that there is any ATM machine in the area!! Certainly it should work in Manaus

I will be visiting Manaus next week arriving on the 10th and leaving vaery late night on the 12th. I'm looking forward to delving into the rich bounty the city has to offer for a couple of nights. Two problems: 1. I've never been before and haven't a clue about the city. 2. I do not speak a single word of Portugese.

Now I have read your extensive and informative reports, but feel I may well still be totally out of my depth trying to get by in English only. I will gladly stand beers for an evening for any locally savvy hobbyist who would be willing to put up with me and show me the ropes on, say, Wednesday evening.

Short update on Manaus:

Remulós, the paradise of Amazonas, had trouble with the police lately. Some of the staff even speak of the risk of closing Remulós for good. (Manaus without Remulós is like Orlando without Disney World). The problem is that Remulós are missing some license.

Some evenings it´s open, others it gets closed early by the PM. Guess it´s also a matter of bribes. Two options in the center are Aquarius and Blue Star, on the same street as Remulós.

Prices: 30 reais for Sala Vip (10 minutes), 40 reais for 30 minutes and 60 reais for 1 hour. Negotiable prices. Excellent duplas for a total of 70 reais, 2 gozadas.

Two of my favourite amateurplaces are Forro da Bragaça and Companhia do Forró. Lots of nice willingly non-pro´s. Also a bunch of pro´s.

The place for SWs in Manaus is the main intersection perhaps one Kilometer north of the river. Some of you may know me from the Peru Forums where I have been an active contributor.

I'm about to leave Peru and embark on an extensive journey to Brazil. I will enter Brazil at the Peru-Leticia, Columbia-Tabatinga, Brazil frontier. From here I will journey via the Amazon River to Tefe, Manaus, to the Atlantic Coast (Belem). Next, I will head south along the coast to Argentina and continue to Paraguay and Boliva on my way back to Peru.

Does anyone have any experience with Manaus and remote areas along the Amazon River? If so, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Could some of my fellow mongers with experience in Brazil please let me know what I am in for and the best way to proceed?

Hi Spidy.

I enjoy mongering in the jungle, but this time I'll choose Rio Branco and Porto Velho.

If you, or somebody else, likes great nature and fishing I can recommend to go to Barcelos, north of Manaus, on Rio Negro.

The small city and it's surroundings are just stunning beautiful. Excellent beaches. Great fishing. Unfortunately one semi'pro. I thought it was a jungle-paradise.

Sorry, for my bad english. I didn't think you were looking for an expensive hotel. I just wanted to point out that staying at this Motel was a better choice than staying at a hotel with lower standard and higher price.

Thanks for the update on the hotels, I will check out the hotels you recommend when I am back in Manaus in Decemeber. I think Kyoto Hotel (where I stayed last time) was on the same street as Hotel Magnifico and it was about R$35, so no problem, it should be in walking distance.

Not sure why you think I was looking for a more expensive hotel, but that is not the case. I am your basic "stud-on-a-budget" kind a guy looking for "a-good-bang-for-the-buck". LOL!!! And on occassion when I feel like celebrating, I will dole out the "big-bucks".

Sperto, I will be back in Manaus (and/or Cusco/Peru) in December, if your game to do some mongering in the jungle, give me a shout. PM me!!!

I just finished reading your comprehensive report on Manaus. I really enjoyed it.

I saw discussions about hotels. If you want a decent hotel with small rooms, try Hotel Rei Salomao, Rua Doutor Moreira 119, 42 reais.

A much better option is Hotel Magnifico, Rua 24 de Maio 554. Magnifico also works as a motel. There are three of them In Manuas. This one opened this year. Nice big rooms, big beds, A/C, mirrors everywhere, hidromassagem, Tv and video and very clean. Absolutely no problem of bringing girls. 30 reais/24 hour. Just like any good motel. But why looking for a more expensive hotel when you have this option. Located 2 blocks from Teatro Amazonas.

About the problems to get money on your Visa-card. Just go to Banco do Brasil in the center, the main agency down at the port.

Surprises me that people can complain on the food in Manaus. All this lovely fish-dishes.Try the Tucunaré. So delicious!

That somebody gets upset of women spitting on the floor.... my god! Isn't that really horrible! : ) LOL
