My buddy and I will be in Manaus on May 25 and stay there for four days. We will stay at Novotel. If you want to hook up, please let me know.

Thanks for the info, Juniour. I found some more info on fishing on the net. I am likely on my way to Manaus sometime in October. Probably land in Sao Paulo and visit four other cities with Brazil pass.

Anybody wants to hook with an old fella for some mongering and fishing!

    Aurab & OFF2GOLF

Sorry for the delay is my reply, I have now come to the end of my five-city tour of northern Brazil and was sadly making my way home.

Just to add on to my earlier post and answer your questions.

    Fishing

On your question about fishing, I have just seen in the Ícaro Varig’s in-flight magazine, April 2003, an article all about Fishing in the Amazon, information:itapara.com peacockbassfishing.com tel (11) 5091-7000 or 0300-788-7000

    Tours:

As I have said in my post avoid the Ariaú Amazon Towers tours its very expensive for what it is, if you are planning the day trip. Two other people I had since met, have said the same thing, however, if you get an overnight stay at a good price then consider it but they quote prices in U$ and as I stated we were first quoted $400 each then down to U$200 each then U$200 for the room. The day trip consists of two and half hour trip up river then two to three hours there before a quick lunch before departing to come back.

One tour I can recommend is the Amazon Explorers, tel: (Matriz) 633-3319 Fax: 234-5753 e-mail: Info@amazonexlorers.com.br

    Loja (shop/store) Novotel – tel: 613-1210 fax: 613-1221
    e-mail: amazonexplorersnovotel.com.br.

The price was only R$79 (U$23) and its feel like a real tour with proper English speaking guide and filling lunch thrown in. You have the opportunity to buy souvenirs on the tour but be warned they don’t take credit cards, bring cash.

On being near the centre of the action if you are renting a car Manaus is not that big, so estimate a maximum of 30 minutes journey time, during peak time, anywhere in town. The prices up here are cheap, so overnighters you should be looking at around R$100 (U$30), its not like most garotas are rushing off to look for another client after you so they are most likely to stay the night. However, if you have some time to invest up here (I did not) with dinner, shopping & sightseeing (most locals never go on the tours) and they like you should soon be able to get a GFE. Several girls I spoke to working in the malls I said that if I had time I would have liked to have dinner with them; so that can tell me about Manaus, all readily agreed.

The other thing is that for people of Manaus its very difficult to leave, there are only two options flying or by river (both expensive) because there are no roads out of the Amazon connecting to other cities like in other parts of Brazil, so no hopping on the bus. Naturally, any guys from out of town instantly look attractive. Plus, all the girls I met told me Manaus guys are not romantic or affectionate; but to be fair in every city I have ever visited in my life women always say this, that grass looks greener on the other side. If I had a week there rather than three days I would have met heaps of women. But I do have Cristiani, who regularly e-mails me and is very keen to meet up again, here or there.

    LISTEN-UP ALL YOU BRASIL SOMETIMERS:

I'm going down there Sept. 5-ish through Nov. 20-ish to look into a few long-time ideas have about setting up in Rio -- buying property, looking into club-rental arrangements, etc.

I could use a few old-timers down there to rally with for a few days during the scouting.

Give me an email if these dates work for you.

    Spidy,

Thanks very much for your quick response. This trip is purely for pleasure - taste the jungle and some honey too.

I'll pass along the hotel information to buddy of mine so he may change a hotel reservation to one in near centro.

I'll make sure to keep the cost in line with what local folks pay and report my discovery.

OFF2Golf, as far as I can tell, my trusty Manaus map informs me that your hotel, the Novotel Manaus is located in the Zona Sul (South Zone) area and is somewhat south east towards the "Distrito Industrial Castelo Branco" area. Which does NOT look very close to the action. I would guess about a 15-20min cab ride to Centro and 45min-1hr to Ponta Negra.

Is this trip business or pleasure? If you can change your hotel I suggest something closer to most of the action in Centro, although Juniour mention Fellice which sounds interesting and is closer to Novotel.

Get a map, some are free at tourist infomation at the docks/pier. Head to the docks/pier for day trips. Pick or point to a destination and go. Trips are very very cheap. Manacapuru is very good and only about 2hrs trip by boat and bus. Paradiso de Angelo is a wonderful hide-away spot just 5min cab ride from Manacapuru city centre. This is assuming your the adventurous type. If not then deal with the expensive tour guides. There are lots to choose from. I chose to create my own fun.

I found the garotas to be GFE and very inexpensive. See posts/reports from Juniour and myself. For an overnight romp, probably in the range of R$70-120 and $150 for the best garotas. But remember, there are NOT that many mongers that come to Manaus, so please keep the prices, close to local prices.

Please report any new findings, updates and interesting tid-bits on Manaus, as I am thinking of venturing back in Nov/Dec.

    Ciao

    Juniour and Spidy,

I appreciate your insightful and detail reporting on Manaus. I’ll be visiting Manaus with two other mongers in late May for a few days. Two of us are Americans and the third is my buddy who is Brazilian residing in Sao Paulo. However this would be his trip to Manaus.

Buddy of mine called me that he has reserved rooms with Novotel Hotel and a rent car as well for transportation.

Do you know whether Novotel is close to where actions are in Manaus?

What kind of day trips is available from Manaus so we will have some flavor of Amazon jungle?

If I missed from your reports, what would be average fee for over night that these girls ask for if they were picked up from the clubs you have been?

Mongering activities in the evening will be based on your reports. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

I had seen all of the information about Dengue Fever and was naturally wondering if indeed I should actually becoming up here; on my arrival at the airport I found no references to Dengue but airport staff were more concerned with SARS than anything local.

In terms of mongering It would be easier to say what not to do rather than what you should. Unfortunately, my biggest mistake was staying in the Tropical Hotel, Manaus for the following reasons. The hotel is stuck right out of town, its very very girl unfriendly In most hotels that are five star you usually have the facilities thrown in but here they kept wanting to charge you for every little thing. Like the use of sauna, just what you need after a hard day in the jungle, R$15 on top, even though I was the only person in there are 7.30pm and I had to ask them to actually turn it on.

I brought a couple of the local papers and telephoned around at some of the garotas who were quoting a price of R$100,(U$30) for the program (2 hours) when they heard that I was staying in the Tropical Hotel they all said I would have to go to their places or a motel the one I was quoted was the Playboy motel another that was advertised widely was moteleros.com.br.

There are a couple of malls shopping Amazonas is one which are worth checking out as there are some nice girls that hang around and work there so use it as an opportunity to get to know them. As it has been said in the section many times before that the girls here are not like the girls of Rio or São Paulo they are dark Indian type and if you looking for a Loira (blond) expect someone who has dyed their hair. I was told that in Florianópolis you will find these types of girls two a penny filling cars at a gas station. Manaus is not so big but its very easy to get lost as I found out to my horror when I was trying to catch a bus back to my hotel and ended on a three hour adventure right out in the suburbs, where there were no taxis and the few people I encountered spoke such bad Portuguese that neither out of could make out what the other was saying.

Unfortunately being stuck right out of town limited my chances to go out at night since I was also going on the tours down the Amazon and most of these started at 8am or so they said, they were always late. Anyone thinking of a day trip to the Ariaú Amazon Towers, think again, it’s a rip off. For what it is, its expensive and when you are arrive you are shown the facilities by a guide who can’t answer questions or is unable too, following a quick basic meal and you back off again. The other thing is that we were quoted several different prices to stay there first U$400 each to share a room if we wanted to stay the night, then it dropped to U$200 each, then U$200 for the room. I had met up with someone who has a friend that lives there as she was visiting we decided to do the tours together. Someone else on the boat was quoted an extra U$40 if they wanted an air conditioned room. Hence on the boat ride it was filled with Europeans and Americans because no Brazilians can afford to go there. Overall I would say you would be missing anything if you didn’t go for a day tour overnight may be worth it if you get it at the right price. Be warned not to pay for anything in advance despite the promises of them bringing your item to the hotel, as I found out to my cost. Note Book all packages before you arrive.

I did manage to slip away to one strip bar, Black Point, Estrada Da Ponta Negra No: 6555- Santo Agostinho. Although, this place claims to start at 10pm it actually closer to 11pm, if you get there before you’ll be the only one in there apart from the staff. This place caters for local cliental so by western or even Rio & São Paulo standards it’s a bit of a dive. I was there on a Wednesday night and there were about five garotas working there about 5-6s there was one girl there who latched onto me and sat down and asked if I could buy her a drink, she had dyed hair and said she was a Loira, what struck me was her bad breath, its like she had just woken up or something, she kept asking me if I preferred Loiras but I said I preferred Morenas just to keep her quiet and brought her a drink, there are no tabs here you pay upfront for everything.

The stripping commences at just after 11pm and I found it interesting as I commented to my host that the girls here remove their pants first then top. Most other countries I have seen strippers it’s usually the other way around. Anyway, how its works here is if you see a girl you like you pay R$10 for 30 minutes, then for the girl herself it works out to R$40 giving a grand total of R$50 (U$15). They have two rooms which they call Sala Vip where you can take the girl for your fee or pay extra for a motel five minutes walk away. At those prices I thought I might as well try one girl, sorry can’t remember what any of their names were, but she was dark, long hair, fairly slim. Quite an unassuming girl, but compared to the girl with the bad breath anything was better. One thing I can say about this girl is she did know how to such dick definitely a 9 in that department, Cbj only. Because of the poor conditions it was so so but for the price its very inexpensive. Not all the girls strip but you should be able to tell by the way they dress which girls are the garotas. There were a few other strip clubs in Manaus but as I have said earlier I was too far out to investigate. I saw one next to the Teatro Justica on part of my sightseeing tour.

Those of you who are interested in regular (GFE) there are a number of places but I can certainly recommend is Fellice, which is located in Studio 5 Festival Mall Manaus, Rua Rodrigo Otávio, 3.555 – Distrito Industrial Tel. (92) 216-3523 / Fax: (092) 216-3520. I went there with the person I had hooked up with she has a friend who lives there who knows the city and picked me up at my hotel. This place gets packed and luckily for us we got there before the queues started. Definitely a place, to pick up the young, single, professional types; I saw many females in pairs etc. I did not see any garota types and judging by the prices it would be way out of their league. The friend of this person I had been on the tours with was a bit miserable, seems she can’t find a man. After ninety minutes she was pushing to go 30 minutes after I had met this pretty professional type, Cristiani, who works for a multi-national in Manaus and speaks perfect English. We danced, even if you’re a poor dancer you should at least make the attempt. Then when I went to sit down and get to know Cristiani even better, this miserable woman I had come with was queuing and said she was going because she was so so (miserable) her friend had warned me about her. Fortunately, for me Cristiani said she would drive me back to the hotel as it was so out of the way, 30 minutes out of hers, but she didn’t mind. Even when I was dancing with her other girls would make comment, such as nice or good. I would recommend you dress well not just an old shirt and shorts, because of the tax-free status in Manaus many multi-nationals have located there and with these large companies are Brazilians from other cities so apart from Cristiani many of her colleagues were from Sao Paulo, Rio etc. The Brazilian guys were splashing their money about a bit, I have never seen so many different types of gold credit cards, but if you are a foreigner and can attempt a few half hearted dance steps, because I saw some guys who’s feet remained fixed in one position attached to some of the prettiest women who knew how to dance, but they looked happy, you will have no problems here with the women. Needless to say that Cristiani is asking when I am returning to Manaus so she can make arrangements to take me around a bit.

Although, I was only able to see a little bit of Manaus and what it had to offer, in terms of mongering I would say it is worth a visit, especially if you are going to use an air pass that makes it cheap to get to Manaus. If you fancy any packages or tours its better to book them beforehand because once you are there it very difficult finding out what’s what even for fluent Portuguese speakers.

Thanks Spidy for the advice. Yes, I can speak a little Portuguese. I have to brush it off a little. Dancing with latin music is not a big problem for me either.

    spidy,

Thanks for the tip. Would you mind sharing which city had the really good GFE and was cheap? I imagine it could be any number of beach resort towns that line the coast of Brazil. I was thinking about looking into a few, but never had the time.

Aurab, I don't think I've yet to find a Brazilian city that did not have beautiful women, you couldn't fuck. Might sound a bit cliche, but it would seem, "they all love to fuck". But YMMV, depending on how you apply yourself, like with most things. Naturally you will get better mileage if you learn some Portuguese, dance Forro, Swing or Pedgogy (sp?), if you are somewhat out going and playful. But not to worry, as long as your a friendly type of guy and have a bit of money, no problem. Simply buy them a drink or a meal and get to talking.

As for fishing, they are many places on the River Amazonas to go finishing. You should have no problem fishing.

RioNut, the girls of the Amazona are beautiful women of all shapes and sizes. The are not the same girls as in Sao Paulo or Rio de J. But, during my visit to many Brazilian cities, found the girls to be a great GFE. As I traveled from city to city I found each city kind-of had its own unique beauty when it came to the women. Some cities had gorgeous woman, but poor GFE. Some had good to great GFE and an abundance of good above average looking women, with still a number of gorgeous women to be found. Some cities have average GFE with fair to good looking women. I remember one of the beach resort villages that had great partying on the weekends and great GFE experience where you can live like a King. I'm sure there are a number of places like this in Brazil, outside of the tourist cities like Rio and SP.

Hey, YMMV but IMHO the best is to travel around and see Brazil in all its splender, you will be amazed. Find your paradise! It not hard in Brazil, since most of the country is paradise.

    Ciao

    Spidy:

I need a little advice from you or anybody else who has experince.

I would like to go to Manaus for mongering and some fishing. I am 48 years old asian man. How difficult or easy to find woman there for my background?

Do you know where I can find some info on fishing? I found some on the internet, looks awfully expensive. I am just looking for fishing for a day or so. Did you notice any info on fishing in any of the hotel lobby?

BTW, wonderful report. I read that couple of times and took notes!

    Spidy,

Really fantastic post on Manaus. I always avoided Manuas because of reports that it is incredibly hot and humid, and the girls of mostly indigenous indian descent. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but I (perhaps ignorantly) assumed that indian girls are mostly short, ugly, and somewhat fat. But it sounds like the girls are actually pretty cute over there?

I do know the non-pro action is supposedly VERY EASY to tap...as the girls are desperate to get out.

Just curious...as a measuring stick...would these Manaus girls be deemed to be the upper 50% of Rio terma girls?

SPIDY -- Awesome report!! Maybe one of the best all-time WSG postings. I skipped Manaus the last time I was in Brasil -- but I promise to RUN FOR FUCKING MAYOR the next time I'm in country. Wow. I want to lay-up in a city for two weeks or so, and maybe this is the place to it in. I thought Recife had the best under-developed scene in Brasil -- but this sounds better.

    Thanks again,
