For the more adventurous types, you might want to try Sofazao.

It is a strange club, part swing club and part "all you can eat" boite.

If you are a couple, you pay a small entry fee that gets you two drinks. You then have the run of the place to try to hook up with any of the other couples or men there.

However, there are also garotas de programa working there. They are usually clearly identified by their dress. They are not supposed to interact with the couples, but they do sometimes.

If you are a single male, you pay a relatively high price to enter, but after you enter, you have the right to take any of the garotas de programa for a session. You can have as many sessions as you like, as I understand it.

You also have the right to try to convince any of the women who are part of the couples to swing with you. This happens more often than you might think.

The club itself is sort of run down, a bit dirty, and laid out strangely. There is a big room, with a giant sofa lining both walls (i.e. sofazao). There is a small stage up front, and a small bar at the rear.

Things usually don't start happening until midnight, and usually the host comes out and tries to warm up the crowd with a game. Then there are live sex shows on the floor in front of you, which spectators are occassionally invited to join.

Later, things break up, and people are getting down on the sofa, in some private rooms, and in some collective rooms explicitly designed for orgies.

After being spoiled by swing clubs in Sao Paulo, my girlfriend and I did not really like the atmosphere, but I could see how this could be very interesting for an adventurous single male who speaks passable Portugues.

I would not trust a taxi driver to take me to the place of his choice. I have only been to Sauna Karendache. This place has a reputation for being the best sauna in POA. On this trip, the taxi driver tried to talk me into another place. The taxi drivers have told me they don´t get comp. from any of the saunas. I´m not so sure of this. They tell me they are only paid a comm. by the high end clubs (La Barca Cafe, Gruta Azul, Carmens, etc). Never pay a taxi driver to take you to any of these clubs. Neg. a free ride to them. I don´t remember the address of Sauna Karendache, but every taxi driver in the city knows the place.

If you are in POA on a Thurs., be sure to go to Sauna Karendache around 5PM. They have a special festa every week on Thurs. I went 3 years ago and it was outstanding. A number of the garotas from the high end clubs go on this day and leave around 8 or 9 to get ready for their night job.

The hotels I have stayed at are both in Moinho de Ventos (best area). They are the Mercure Manhattan and the Mercure Beverly Hills. I just stayed at the Beverly Hills. The visitor policy is no charge for short time, but 25R for overnight. I only do short time. They still tried to charge me for a visitor, but removed it right away when I quetioned it. My first time in POA, I stayed at the Mercure Manhattan 3 years ago. The rooms here are larger and I liked the hotel a little better. I never paid a charge to bring a girl in, but I understand they have some type charge now. Make your reservation on Mercure.com and try for the hot deal. It is usually avail. up to 1 week before your check-in date.

When in southern Brazil always neg. services before leaving the bar. A lot of garotas will try to give you a cbj. It´s not like Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador, etc.

I visited this club on a Wednesday night. I had read on several boards that the quality here was very good and had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed. This place was well stocked with a lot of very hot garotas. There are 4 or 5 girls that dance for 30 minutes each at poles around the club. This place stacks up well against the higher end Sao Paulo clubs.

The pricing for POA was very good. I paid 70R to get in and that included 4 beers. The house charges 50R to take a girl out or you can session onsite for 50R. I talked to a few garotas to get an idea of the pricing and they were all asking for 200R to 250R short time. This was inline with what the locals seem to be paying according to the local boards. I settled on 23 year old and took her out to my hotel for 1. 5 hours. She provided all the services I had neg. In the club including a BBBJ. She asked for 250R, but took my 200R offer right away. This place, at least for now is a must visit when in POA. Portuguese language skills are important in POA. There is very little English spoken anywhere.

I went Gruta Azul on Monday night. There were quite a good number of garotas available for early in the week. The quality was quite high. Many of the garotas here tend to be a little older. The admission is up to 100R which includes 6 beers. If you want to take a garota out of the club there is another 100R fee. They have onsite rooms, but I don´t know the cost.

I interviewed 2 garotas. They both were looking for the sucker price of 450R for short time in my hotel or onsite. I offered 250R (pretty much inline with local boards) and they both agreed right away. When I started to neg. services they both wanted to give me a CBJ. Neither would back down. I told both of them that I don´t pay the kind of money I offered along with an exit fee/room charge for a CBJ.

Things didn´t work out for me on this particular night. A total miss.

I visited Sauna Karandache on Tuesday and was very pleased with the experience. The entry fee is 40R and room charge is 25R. The upstairs boite was open and there were close to 40 garotas available by 6 PM. A live band provided music starting at 5 PM.

The garota level of quality was quite high. There were a number in my doable range. I settled on a local student who passed my interview process with flying colors. BBBJ´s are always an issue in southern Brazil and she had no problems providing one. I offered 100R, but settled on 150R for an hour in an onsite room. This is inline with what the local boards indicate is a fair price. I was amazed at how lively the place was for a Tuesday.
