Posts: 484Looking for one or two bedroom Apartment
I will be in Rio June 23rd until July 8th for work but will have time to play. Need modestly priced place that is close to the action and girl friendly but GE enough to pass the smell test at work. Have to submit it on my expense report. May have to move around to different locations, central durring the week days and copacabana on the week ends. May possible have to go to Macea (sp?) for a few days as well.
Thanks.
Chris

O Globe reporting 0n 1/29/13, that Rio's Hotels are increasing their daily room rate, up to 71. 1% during World Youth Day, July 23-28. 13 out of 16 hotels O GLobe checked were charging much higher daily rates during that period. The report cites the Canada Hotel in Copacabana with the 71. 1% increase, charging R$623 during that period, (normal room rate of R$364.)
Other hotels: Novo Mundo (Flamengo,) R$452 to R$502 (11. 06% increase). Ramadá Riocentro, R$628 to R$736 (17. 7% increase). Arena Copacabana, R$535 to R$642 (20% increase). Rio Design Hotel, in Copacabana, R$375 to R$617 (64. 3% increase). The only hotel to lower their rates: Atlântico: form R$502 to R$448. Copacabana Palace (R$1040) and Sol the Barra (R$507) did not change their daily rates. Embratur called a meeting tomorrow in Brasilia to discuss rates with representatives of the hotel industry.
If this is what they're charging for the World Youth event, how much higher will they be for the World Cup and Olympics?

The rental looked great in the photos, the building is the same as in the photo.
I went by and checked it out, porteiro didn't know the name or anyone renting in the building.
Had my credit card cloned and was being used after my departure.
Pay attention to your account fellas.

The sooner you get Paypal to send your money back, the better but that is your decision to make. It would be nice if you let us know how this ends.

Most legitimate owner rentals do not use CraigsList. They use agent services with a web site to advertise their properties.

Anyone have dealings with
Joseph Van Bomel?
Re: this apt rental.
I have made a deposit via Paypal, half of the total amount.
Paypal says the acc (not in this persons name) is not new and in good standing.
This person is now requesting balance to be forwarded by wire to an address in London, aka, his account officer?
"Due to high season rentals, we have decided to remodel the apartment and add more furnishings so the apartment can be more condusive and luxury for our client.
Regarding the above, we need all our clients to make payment of their rental balance ASAP so as to enable us carry out the process."
Original agreement was for balance to be paid upon arrival.
I'm sticking with that.
I will be there the end of next week and responded that my remainder should not have any bearing on his remodel.
A 2nd email, a little heavier shall we say was received by me once again requesting this money.
I have not responded.
Of course, any cancelation must be received in writing 30 days before my arrival or a $200 fee will be assessed.
Paypal indicated that I would have recourse to original payment.
That remains to be seen.
I will do a follow-up but at this point I'm looking for another apt to stay just in case.
Original ad was on Craigslist I believe.
Anyone available to pass by the address and check it out for me? PM me.
It's in Copa, south end.

Posts: 5Windsor Barra NOT 'guest friendly'
Ok, so made it to Barra the Tijuca and am staying at the Windsor Barra Hotel. For those interested, this is not a guest friendly hotel, though there are at least two hotels nearby, one of which is called Motel Papillion that is girl friendly and rents rooms by the hour.
