For the first time stay in Copa.

That's a loaded question. I like Ipanema better, but prefer staying in Copa.

Do you prefer more space to service. Stay in an apartment. Service to space? Hotel.

Normally, you'll find apartments in Rio cheaper in terms of space than hotels, but less predictable, ie you don't know what kind of mattress you going to sleep on. Also, many Airbnb's aren't GF, so read carefully.

If you have a reasonable budget maybe stay at a hotel for the first time. Both JW Marriott and Hilton are guest-friendly, but Hilton makes you fill the form. JW doesn't care at least when I was there before Covid. There are other GF hotels on the strip, maybe someone else will chime in with updated info.

I used Kenn in the 2000's. Good guy, decent apartments, some with ocean views, etc.

He gets mentioned from time to time here, but unfortunately I think AirBnB and VRBO have replaced the Kenns of the world.

    1st trip to Brazil!

What's going on fellas! Very excited about my 1st trip to Brazil. Will be there for 10 days.

I would appreciate any advice you can give on best places to stay. Debating on hotel or airbnb. Would like both to be guest friendly of course.

Any advice you can give me is very much welcomed. Thank you in advance.

I'm planning my first trip to Rio in New year also. Can I ask are the hotels girl friendly? I am looking through reports some say yes some say they changed policy. I had this happen to me in Medellin hotel I was using for my stays never had a problem with bringing girls. Then my last trip all changed they charge a fee now.

In August this year I stayed for six weeks in Transamerica Barra and I ended up ubering every evening to copa -) I agree, copa is touristic and kind of dirty but it always has been a good starting point for me beginning with Mabs, dolce vita, Kalabria and then going to club mosaico if necessary. Interestingly, the more you leave copa going to zone sul like ipa, leblon etc. The cheaper the Airbnb's also get.

August 2022 update on Pestana Hotel. Yes it was girl friendly. You take the girl to front desk and they take copy of ID. Then she signs a form and you sign a form. Don't ask me the words on that form LOL.

Yeah that ocean front room is the bomb. Balcony is HUGE. That was one of the best views in a hotel room I have ever had.

Yeah the hotel is dated. But the room is big with desk and couch. I was supposed to go to Buzios for 4 days end of my trip and bailed. I said to myself why am I going to Buzios with this room and the chicas here. And possible problems with a wifey in Buzios. LOL.

Breakfast is decent. Nice bar on top to bring your chica to. That area around Pestana is real nice. Lot of upscale yuppie type bars and restaurants. Good Italian restaurant to left of Pestana looking from street. Funny the managers look right out of Sopranos. Though they brazilan. Haha.

I paid under 200 for first part of my trip. The extension killed me. Rock and Rio was in town and they jack up prices. So really depends time of year to get decent price. If you get that late flight out to USA at 11 pm you might want to reserve for that day. I tried late checkout or 6 pm checkout and they said no dice. Holiday was coming up.

So you have to book for two and register one garota at the beginning of your stay there. That means only one during the whole time.

I did also spoke with other hotels due to eventually change my hotel. E. g. Copacabana Mar is gi-FR. You have only to register her every time before taking her to the room. No limitations, so every night another one. If you book for two, no additional costs. But the hotel is very old, FYI.
They must have changed their policy since the renovation.

    Porto bay

I am coming to Rio in January and looking for GF hotels in Copa. Does anyone know about Portobay? It looks like a nice hotel. It's been 20 years since I've been to Rio. Loved Copa and HELP back in those days.
