I'll be making my first visit to Salvador January 17-23, staying at the Bahia Othon Palace. If there is anyone who is going to be in Salvador during that period, I'd enjoy getting together for a drink and perhaps some joint sightseeing.

Best place for tourists and even those who stay some months is BARRA, there is a lot of police, it is considered safe. Street action is between the old FORT (Porto do Barra) and the Praiamar Hotel (or Grande Hotel da Barra), price about 50 reis, 15 EUR.
More aggressive street action is in Pelourinho.
Distance to FREE, Caisquinha do Siri etc is enormous, and about 30 km to the Airport ! Safe money for taxis and stay in Barra.

I was from 20 - 26 October in Salvador. This time it was quite dis- appointing.

At Praca de Se (center at Pelourinho) usually I go for a beer and a meel to the cantina da lua. There you find a mix of SW, trourists etc. This time the quality of the SW was very low.

Casquinha de Siri had ist usual merrits but not a stunner - as sometimes before. As noted also by others - the sceen in Salvador is going down.

I usually stay at the Blue Tree Tower hotel (189 R$) at Rio Vermelho. When you descend from the hotel - there are a lot of baracas (small restaurants) where you can eat very well. This is certainly not a pick-up zone. But usually - when I have met a girl and decided to stay with her for a few days, I prefer to go out with her in the evening and before going back to the hotel having a last beer or caipirinha there at the baracas of Rio Vermelho.

Next time I will try the Northeastern part of Brazil. There might be some unspoiled waters.

    Carlos

I'll be in Salvador solo about November 26 to December 2. Anyone interested in getting together for a drink or sightseeing can contact me via a private message using the WSG Forum's Private Message service.

    CONTINUATION OF SALVADOR UPDATE:

This should FOLLOW the report below. The computer I was typing it up on was a little buggy. Sorry for the "out-of-order-ness."

Let me start with a correction. I refer to a club called "Liberty Night" below. It should read "FREE NIGHT." There was a "Liberty" club a few year back when I initially visited, which has subsequently closed. It wasn't very good, anyway.

Casquinha de Siri is now more of a venue for hobbying than it was. On any given night, it's the place to go. If all the clubs are dead for no good reason, check this place out. Any cabby will know it.

I know for a fact that Casquinha de Siri is the best place for mongering on a Monday night. When I was there, they had two bands that went to 4 a.m. -- very fun; got loaded and had a goo time. As this place is not a sex-den per se, so prices are normally ranged. Don't forget to negotiate those garota prices!!

The street scene around (especialy two blocks behind and away from the sea) Free Night is about the same. Prices quoted were in the 50R range. Many proximate sex-motels. The area is still nice and I wouldn't be too overly concerned with safety.

What else? I think this ought to cover it. Salvador has really slipped down the ladder. I don't know why. I'm observing a general phenomenon of general slippage in the quality of sex overall in Brasil. I wonder if the garota's are getting wise nation-wide. Dunno.

As always, I'm available for questions. Just post here and I'll do my best to answer.

    Happy Hunting,
    JWadd

    SALVADOR UPDATE:

I've attached my old report to the bottom of this update. Togther with this new information, I'd project that the Salvador scene (such as it is) is about 95% covered. Many of the places/things I casually refer to here are introduced/located in the report below.

I (again) stayed in Pelourinho for this trip -- and have to say how surprised I am on how the place has changed. It's become so much more aggresive toward the tourists. Touts/hustlers approach you about 3 per every 5 minutes -- only to leave your side after the tenth "nao."

The area has also gotten a bit more dangerous -- equally infected by drugs and banditry. If I ever go back, I'm going to stay near the beach.

The SW scene, here, has also deteriorated. 2 years ago it was healthy and well-stocked. Now, SWs are fewer and more homely. I saw (amazingly) only about 20 different ones in my two day stay there. Last trip, I'd guess I saw them by the hundred.

Tche nightclub has moved from Centro (Pelourinho) to the beach-front area near Free Night. On a Mon. night there were about 15 18-25s there. Many were cute; none about a 7, though. I got no prices (if I had to guess, I'd say 100R + exit fee). There were no beds on-site. Girls here, though, were VERY AGRESSIVE.

Liberty Night totally sucked both Mon. and Tues. nights. Maybe that's to be expected. But it sucked so badly that I'd couldn't see it getting much better by the weekend. Dunno. Girls here were aggressive, too.

A new placec to check out is VIP club -- further along the beach. Girls wanted 100R, with beds on-site.

    SALVADOR:

Salvador has a good, cheap scene. There's an active street presence, two adequate boites (sex-clubs), a working-girl restaurant and a low-end "locals only" boite.

The two high-end boites are "Liberty Night Club" and "Free Night." Both are close to each other and about a 20 min. cab ride from the city's historic center (Pelourinho -- not sure I spelled that right).

Free Night is the better of the two. It hosts about 50 girls, many cute, all asking somewhere between 150-200 reals. There's a 20 reals entry fee, and a 20 real exit fee if you leave with a girl. Drinks are normally priced.

Liberty is just down the road. It's about as expensive but nowhere as good. About 20 average to below average girls.

Neither club has facilities, so you must leave and go to any of the nearby sex motels.

The "working-girl" restaurant is "Casquinha de Siri", somewhat nearby the two boites a little further down the road. It's o.k. if you get there early enough. Most of the good looking girls seem to pair up quickly.

There're also a lot of non-working women here, so make sure you're game is good before you dive in. The pros seem to sit near the entrance, and (of course) make eye-contact with you.

The locals-only boite is near centro. It's name is "Tche." Dark, big, drunk and dirty. Not too safe of an area. Not many good looking women. Didn't talk to anyone so can't report prices. Go at your own risk.

The historic center, Pelourinho, has many free-lancers walking around. Orient yourself from Praca do Se (main square), and, looking downhill, most of the descending side-streets will have girls walking around that are available for sex.

There're probably more free-lance scenes -- like in and around many of the good beaches here. I couldn't find them, though (but I didn't look that hard.)

The main street scene for whiter women (if that matters to you) seems to be the large street that runs behind the Free Night and Liberty boites. The girls here uniformly asked for 50 reals/hour. Some were cute -- most not. Area seemed safe enough. Also try the beachfront up a little and between Free Night and Liberty.

I just spent four days in Salvador, about two more than I would have wanted to, in retrospect. Stayed at the Fiesta Bahia hotel, very nice, for R 205, through bookings.com. The sex scene is limited and has already been covered here: Casquina
de Siri and the Aeroclubbe Mall (yes, mall!). There are a couple of discos in the mall but all you have to to is just walk around. There really isn´t much, but eventually you´ll see a couple of providers looking. I found a 24 year old Morena who attached herself to me for the duration of my stay (fortunately there was only one day left of it!). To try to describe this girl in terms like GFE or PSE (Porn star experience) would be like trying to use mechanics to discuss quantum physics! Let´s just say that she was quite a machine, non-stop. The down side is that (ok, call me crazy) it´s really hard for me to be with someone 24/7 that I can´t have a decent conversation with. It gets on my nerves. I guess I can find something to complain about in any situation. Sorry.

Anyway, I have her contact information and I can give it out to anyone passing this way. I highly recommend her. Looks 7, performance immeasurable.

Salvador extract from my full report, in the General info board (http://www.wsgforum.com/vforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=555).

    Place: Salvador de Bahia (BA)
    Pousada: Pousada Villa Fiorita
Address: Parque Recreio dos Bandeirantes Q4 L7 - Jardim das Margaridas - Salvador (BA)
    Phone: (0xx71) 377.2766
    Girl friendly? Absolutly YES
    Price: r$60 (triple, vent)
Comments: This pousada is for italians only. Is a fuckink mongering place, everyone there, from the owners Silvano and Guido to every customer. If you are italian, and if you want to monger in Salvador, this is the place to be, even if it is so far from the center, it is not so far from some main mongering sites, such as Casquinha and Rock in Rio disco.
Day 1: Sunday. This was a "Rock in Rio" night. You can find this beautiful disco inside the Aeroclube shopping center, starting from midnight to 3am. Entrance is 12r$ with a live samba show. 50% pro action and 50% non pro girls, there. Most of the pros are around the entrance, and around the back bar. Many beautiful girls, there. When the disco was closed down, I had a morena girl for just r$50 TLN. she was between a 6 and a 7, and a good experience.
Day 2: Sunday (again, went back 2 or 3 weeks later). Rock in Rio night again, full of girls and mongers, but I had no mongering experience that night.
Day 3: Monday. Went to the Free Night Club. entrance was r$30, beer r$8. What a ugly place! Ugly premises, ugly girls that are really pushy, at that time (I went there at 2am, maybe the best ones were paired up). I run away like hell! Went to the Casquinha do Siri famous working girl restaurant. I don't know other opinions, but every girl there is a true Pro! Everyone in Salvador knows it... r$10 entrance, good samba show. That night it was really full of people, I wasn't able to find a free table. Spotted some stunners, but there, as in any "disco like" environment, you should have very basic approaching skills to know the best garotas... The girls there uniformly ask r$200, but is easy to negotiate down to r$150 (for the better looking), to r$100 (for the good looking). and to r$70 (for the normal ones)...
Day 4: Tuesday. Terza de Pelo. Every tuesday is Pelourinho night. Nice street show, drummers and sambas concerts. I only hate all those "valtour" or "club med" style tourist, mostly of them italians, with a leader calling everyone with his raised umbrella. Fuck them off. Later on, on one of that bar, I met Kelly, a morena rated 6, she asked me r$ 200, but we negotiated for r$100 TLN. Not so bad, but nothing special. She was a 6, sex was a 6... The morning after I lead her to her home, in the city center.
Day 5: Wednesday. Rock in Rio was closed down, Casquinha do Siri was half empty. I went to the aeroclube plaza as well, very quiet environment. You can go there, eat, see some open air show, spot some semipro action there, quiet and funny. Around Casquinha I spotted many SW.

The address is bahia-online.net . Contact Alain. He is anice guy who knows Bahia very well. Tell him you would like a good room in the Summer flats. He'lll hook it up. It should cost no more than aouns 220 US dollars for a week. There are tons of orther rentals available as well. Ive gone this route with much sucess! Alains # is on the site. Tell him The black guys from Atlanta recomended the acomadation. He'll take care of things. DO NOT STAY in Pehlinrino. I am VERY street savy being from Kingston Jamaica via Brooklyn New York.

I currently reside in Downtown ATL and even I managed to get got for 25 reais while I was there. If you send someone on an errand for anything ask them for ID. If they can not produce and ID for you to hold until they return, then DONT TRUST THEM. Granted 25 reais is only about 8$s but man that goes a long way in Brazil. Pelirinho has many girls after 6 pm. As soon as the sun goes down they go to work. Mostly pros. have a good time and be smart. PS almost none of the girls are white ansd many prefer darker skinned men however money and personality goes a long way. On the other hand some girls will only go with white guys. These are usually the very dark skinn girl with complexes about being black. Dont waste your time. They tend to be bad situations for both black and whites!

Great, wonderful, now do you think we might get back on topic? I would love to hear people's experiences in Salvador, and I'm also still looking for a guest-friendly hotel if there is one, out of the Pelhourino (sp?) area. Thanks!

Lets not start again RioD it´s pointless. I am not paranoid about race like most Americans are. If I said something that sounded offensive to you, then you have my apologies, but I still have my sexual preferences.

It´s interesting the comment that you made about the black girls being left in Help without clients, You do the math: you said that they are the majority, blondes and morenas are a scarce commodity, of course the most attractive black girls and the different ones will be taken first.

The other day I met a black girl in Terrasso Atalntico, she said she wasnt a pro so we were just talking for like 2 hours (and to her pregnant friend also black). I found it very funny that both of them love white guys (the whiter the better for them), the pregnat girls father is German by the way, and they also told me the black Americans never pay attention to them, they rather go to the blondes. I dont know if that´s true or not but that´s her opinion. Unlike in the US I see that in Brazil people prefer the oposite of what they look like, I like blondes and I do excelelntly with blondes, I have done well with blacks and mestiças too but thats more in a case by case basis.

I think that you are mistaken about the racial composition of Brazil, most Americans do only hte Rio/Nordeste circuit for mongering and they leave with the idea that this is a very African country, blacks are probably the largest minority but they are not a moajority, but I´ve done the NE, RJ, SP and the South and let me tell you this country is more an all-you-can-eat food court than a plain Chinese restaurant, you can find all colors and shades. Hell I´ve never seen so many blondes in my life as in a non-pr club in Caxias do Sul (not even in Denmark).

Well sorry to post so much stuff unrelated to Salvador but some things had to be said. I dont wanna get a reputation of being a Byron de la Beckwith on this board

Now that things have calmed down on the Salvador board, I still need to clear up some things that were said on this subject, once and for all, in a more rational way. My meaning is still misunderstood by many on this forum, perhaps deliberately.

I know that many people don't want to discuss the subject of race in the Americas, and that's fine with me. I prefer not to bring up the subject myself. But the subject is brought up frequently by others, and usually in an offensive way, and it needs to be dealt with.

Occasionally someone, usually on the Rio board, will complain about the presence of black or bi-racial women in the city of Rio. Or someone will repeatedly state his dislike of black or bi-racial women.

And this has nothing to do with a guy preferring white girls over black girls. The majority of the people on the WSG prefer white girls. That fact is not offensive to me. I’m not saying that all men should be attracted to black or mulatto women - that is not the point. The point is this: a guy constantly saying that he doesn't like black females - in a Brazil forum - is offensive. Brazil has the largest African-descended population of any country outside of the continent of Africa, because of the slave trade. Salvador and Rio de Janeiro were major transit points for slaves arriving from Africa. For hundreds of years.

Let's face it - most of the men on this website prefer white women, and would like to see more white women and fewer black women in the business. That doesn't bother me. We all know that there is a racial imbalance in the hooker ratio in the US, and in Brazil. Now I can appreciate the beauty of all races, but even I would like to see more ‘loiras’ on the scene, just for variety. There are not enough 'blue-eyed blondes' available, and the few that are seen are grabbed quickly and paid high prices. Whether on the street, or in the clubs and termas. Every night at Help, it is mostly mulatas who are the leftovers. More black women are living in the economic underclass, because of race and the aftereffects of slavery. Therefore more black women need to work in the business.

It makes no sense to travel to a Brazilian city and complain about all the bi-racial women there. Would you go to a Chinese restaurant if you didn’t like rice? I wonder why the guys who make these comments don’t simply travel to Europe instead, and have the time of their lives. The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia. Is it the climate?

And to Rodriguinho – No, I don’t “try to find racism in any comment related to race” as you say. I try to escape from racism - not look for it, believe me. Your comment was offensive. But it doesn’t mean that I think you’re a racist. You just said something without thinking it through, probably. Saying that “..the women were ugly AND they are black...” is almost as bad as saying they were ugly because they are black. Unless you are in a forum that is dedicated to serious social issues, making casual comments on race is a bad idea. You’re not the first one to make this kind of statement, by the way.

Men on this website often talk of their dislike for black women. But no one ever talks of a dislike for white or Asian women.

Again, I don’t think a guy is racist just because he thinks black women are unattractive. I just don’t need to read about it, over and over, in the Brazil sex forum. It's a mixed-race country.

    DocBill449,

The Web Address for bahia-online is www.bahia-online.net/

I will in NE Brazil (and possibly Salvador in October) and will be interested to hear your report. Having been there once before I think I will probably stay outside of Pelorinho, and making the odd sortie into Pelorinho to pick up.

I did spend an evening at Barra and it did feel much safer there than Pelorinho.

Pelorinho has armed police on most street corners, so you are more likely to strike trouble just outside the policed areas.

I myself did not have any trouble but was so concerned with my safety in Pelorinho that I did not get my camera out until the third and final morning. As with anywhere in Brazil, avoid situations that are likely to lead to crowd crushes. That is the situation where you are likely to get pick pocketed as happend to me down the coast at Valenca (but thats another story).

The last time I was in Salvador I felt a bit uneasy at Salvador's main bus station. The ticket booths which were upstairs were arranged in a criss cross of columns and rows. It was like a stake-out - at every turn there was a policeman with a shotgun, seemingly ready for action. The only cop without a shotgun had a large calibre revolver and it was in hand. I felt much safer when I had procurred my ticket and got back downstairs to catch my bus.

DocBill, I hope the web site is of assistance to you and other readers. I will be referring to it, if and when I get back to Salvador.

    Chopper

  15. #73
Thanks Chopper, do you have a web address for "bahia-online?" As for hotels, I've been recommended to the Othon Palace, Best Western San Marco and the Fiesta Bahia (pricey). It seems that Pelhourino is a nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to stay there.
