Short update on Salvador.
Privates:
The privates recommended below are mostly closed or have girls so ugly that they should pay you. Not worth going there. There are other privates all around the city (mostly in the areas where the Brazilians live), but they change often, so I won't add the addresses here.
Street-Action:
At the moment it is very low. The international tourists stayed away, but most probably this will become better. Barra is still a good place for street action, as well as Pelourinho. If you have a car you should just drive on the beach direction north and there are plenty of streetwalkers, but it starts ~30 minutes outside Barra.
Escorts:
I would not recommend, except you want very "white" girls (but then you're anyway wrong in Salvador). They are overpriced, their choice is limited (compared to Rio, SP, etc.) and they don't offer the same service quality that you will get from a must cheaper streetwalker.
Hotels:
Ask if they are girl-friendly. I can recommend http://www.villagenovo.com/ , it is 100% girl-friendly, safe and well located (almost next to a police station, but there are - as in most of Barra - plenty of girls sitting).

Meat Loaf - I was living in Salvador for 14 months with relatives. I would NOT go to Boca de Rio or Liberdade. Last father´s day they shot 5 drug-dealers in one night there. Do I need to say anything more?

Posts: 2149How many of you guys live in Salvador?
Hello.
I have read this thread and the Brazil forumn for many years. I wanted to know how many of you guys actually live in Salvador or are you mostly tourists?
I ask this question 'cause it appears that most of the conversations involve Region VI (ie. Barra), Region VII (ie. Rio Vermelho), and Region VIII (ie. Pituba, Itaugua). I know that these are the "happening" areas, but do you guys venture into Region IV (ie. Liberdade), Region IX (ie. Boca do Rio), and other local areas not so tourist / glamor oriented?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Guys,
I ran into this wonderful forum not so long ago. It’s great, wonderful reports! After wandering the streets of Natal and some other smaller cities in the Brazilian Nordeste and the interior for over ten years, with some short breaks to Rio as well, I’m heading for Bahia next week. My first time in terras baianas and I’ve been reading the great reports on Salvador, they’re fabulous! I have the basics already, now I’m just wondering if there’s any lastest info? I’m arriving Wednesday in the afternoon, what would be the party-places to Wednesday night and Thursday?
I’ll post and update any relevant information after I arrive next week.
Keep up the good work!
Abraços!!

Posts: 246I totally agree. I just realized the taxi driver could have lied because he would take them some place that gives him a big commision. Duh. What was I thinking. Still, if someone can confirm I would appreciate it.

I would be stunned if it was closed. They spent alot of money updating it just a couple of years ago and it always seemed very busy with decent food and great live music. Plus, this is not a strictly monger venue by any means. 99% of their clientele are normal Brazilians.
But hey, you never know, businesses fail all the time.

I hate to be one to ask silly questions, but I heard this from a fairly reliable source. He said a taxi driver told him Santíssima (formerly Casquinha de Siri) was no longer. Anybody checked it out lately?
As for taxi drivers being reliable, that's a joke, but I don't know why he would lie. I would expect the opposite since it's a good fare to go out there and back.
If still open, is it still only Moday night for garotas?
I will appreciate a recent eyewitness.

in 2005 we took one of the schooners for a 2-day trip to Morro. It was a package deal with one night at a pousada on Morro and onboard catering included.
If I remember well we booked it at the same counter for booking the catamaran.

You mean that there is a party boat doing the route Salvador-Morro? It sounds strange to me.
Maybe you are thinking of a one-day trip Salvador-Morro with the catamaran and boarding a schooner when arriving in Morro?
