I was expecting most of it to look like a historical colonial district but that was only in Pelourinho. The city is quite spread out with a few favelas situated along the main highway which was weird.

Platinum Club

Very nice club. Reminds me a bit of Fazendinha in Campinas. It has an indoor lounge with tv and sofas. Nobody hangs out there. Also a small bar area. There is no nightclub area. Everyone hangs out in the outdoor area which has a swimming pool and a few tables and cabana style sections with sofas. Clients can also request a presentation clinica style. We requested one on a Friday night and had 20 plus girls lined up in a conga style line, each introducing themselves and giving the standard cheek kiss. The place has strict rules like Cafe Photo where the girls cannot approach any customers.

Uber driver said that the neighborhood was dangerous and it would be hard to get an Uber to pick us up. We were very nervous in this neighborhood so decided to abort mission.

We went here on Friday night. We had to ring a door bell a few times and they finally let us in and up some stairs. Set up was a bar with some booths and tables. I can't tell you whether it is safe or not. It has been safe for me. One time, I rushed on to a bus leaving the station at night. I ended up in a favela type of neighbourhood. I asked the conductor if they could drop me off some place safer on their way back. The driver took me to a major street. The conductor got off the bus, jumped to the middle of the road to stop another bus. I got on the bus arrived at my destination for free.

I prefer to walk. The first day I was there. I walked between So Joaquim Fair and Barra round trip. A police car stopped me to warn me about the danger with perfect English. That is not even that long a distance for me. I walked all over the city. Tried many things at unnamed places. I made connection with locals, know their family, done many things with them.

I've not the slightest interest in sightseeing or hanging round touristville. We have people we want to spend time with & things to get done. Possibly a week up-country as well. Would be interesting regarding the Metro is, is it safe? Our Metro & local trains around Malaga certainly are. But Malaga's pussycatsville. Never had any problems in Madrid or Valencia. But I've also lived in Paris, London & am familiar with NYC. There are parts in all of them where late night travelling can bring unfortunate surprises.

Nobody is targeting anybody. Just correcting some facts. Unlike other metros in Brazil the metro in Salvador is worthless for tourists because of the routes.

OK, let say AndalusExpat takes the shuttle to the metro station, takes the train, change to another train and arrives at Lapa. Then he'll take a uber to where he will stay. That's possible but might not be safe for a newbie. Lapa might be crowded and scary for a newbie gringo arriving with all his luggage. Instead he could take the bus from the airport that passes by close to Barra and also Praca the Sé, close to Pelourinho. It would be very cheap but takes a long time. The easiest option would be taking an uber from the airport. In March I took an uber from Porto the Barra to the airport, it cost 39 reais.

If you plan to take public transportation, I suggest you get the Metro card at the airport, put enough money in it like are $50 or are $100. You will need to take a shuttle to the Airport Metro station if you choose to do so.
