2005 Sao Paulo Reports

Greetings to everyone,

I spent three days in Sao Paulo in mid-December. My report below focuses on aspects that (to an extent) go underreported on this board. This means I will not report on places like Bomboa but rather on other options open to you in SP.

But first of all, two things about the city itself. Firstly, I personally found SP more enjoyable than Rio. This is in large part due to the fact that SP is not a city where you usually find tourists – even though I am as white as it goes, people originally assumed (that is until I opened my mouth) that I was brazilian (if that was true on the street, it was less true in clubs). What this means is among other thing that cab drivers do not try to swindle you and no one pesters you on the street. Which brings me to the issue of personal security/safety – I found the situation far less precarious that I assumed, reading this board and other sources. Provided that you blend in, don't walk about with a camera, you are able to go most (if not all) places without feeling ill at ease (see below). This does not mean that risks don't exist, but that taking the subway on your own or wander a bit at night is not as daunting as some make it sound. Just need to use a bit of commonsense!

Cinema globo – As it had been referred to on this board once or twice, I decided to try my luck. It was in fact rather fun. You enter that cinema for 5 reais, and take a seat. There are ladies walking up and down the aisles, trying to hook up with you. I spotted a cute "morena" and joined her at the bar. We chatted for more than half an hour (she gets a cut on the beers you buy, but giving the low prices, it doesn’t really matter). When then headed to a sort of small cubicle where the only piece of furniture was an armchair (apparently there are rooms but they are in the process of being revamped), where we proceeded to do the deed. Given the price (40 reais and I bet they overcharge me) and the responsiveness of the girl, it was really worth it. If you look for a new cultural experience and to learn new armchair positions, it is really worth it. Although it would not suit those looking for a minimum of comfort.

Eight story building on Limeira street – here again, a new cultural experience, at least for a new comer to Brazil like me. You walk up and down the eight floors (better be fit if you do it several time to check all the girls) to select a girl. The quality ranges from poor to cute. I went there twice and both time found girls that were more than ok. The standard price seems to be 15 reais – can't beat it if you seek cheap action to get started before higher quality encounters. Here again, safety did not seem to be an issue.

Clinicas – Clinicas are a good way to start your day too – they open between 11am and 12 pm. Price and quality vary greatly among clinicas, but the gpguia.net has a list of all of them that enable you to narrow down your choice. By picking a middle of the range clinica, you will have one hour of fun for 100 to 120 Reais all inclusive (ie you pay the entire amount at the reception). The choice of girls is not always outstanding, but at least fair. In any case, if you don’t like the offer, you are entirely free to walk out. No pressure whatsoever to consume.

Escorts/acompanhantes – They are a great way to spend your afternoons. They may be sometimes booked in the evening but certainly not before. This may be why they are usually fairly responsive if you offer to meet them at any time during that period of the day. As already mentioned on this board, when you identify an escort on a website, you need to typed her tel. number on google.com.br to see whether she works for an agency or on her own (ie avoid agencies, they are likely to try the old bait and switch trick). Once you've done that, you should also go to gpguia.net – using the search function, you can usually get a pretty good assessment of the lady, including prices, performances and services performed. Proceeding this way, I was able to single out and visit a few escorts that performed above par (euphemism). It usually cost me 150 Reais for a 90 min. session, which I usually extended to two hours. In fact, the only difficult part in this was to converse with them on the phone and set up an appointment (my Portuguese is really basic).A way to go around is to single out a few escorts on websites that publish an email address, submit your request by electronic means and then just confirm the rendez-vous by telephone. If you proceed this way, in my experience, you are able to meet ladies of the club level (Bomboa et al.) at a fraction of the price.

Finally, the night club Love Story – I was lucky insofar as I was able to meet up with someone else from this board to head to LS, which made the experience quite enjoyable (if you read this, thanks again for the evening). The place is fun in its own right, ie simply to sit and watch. Approaching girls is really easy if you feel like it, no one will turn you down. The trick rather seems to find the girl that will perform than to merely find a girl (even though it is 8am, some will ask you for US$ 100 – drop them right there).

Look at the phone numbers given for the girl on the website. If it is the same number for all the girls, it is an agency, and they will want top $$$. If the numbers are all different, then you are talking directly to the girl herself. Most of the girls are wysiwyg, but if one shows up who is definitely not her, and you are not satisfied with the replacement, send her on her way. That is the advantage of the clubs, as you can get a "feel" for the girl and her attitude before you have her come over.

Many of the girls will ask towards the higher end from the clubs, but offer them a time and place the next afternoon, and they will usually agree to less, or for a longer time. Tell them that you have had too many beers that night or some other reason.

The best way is not even to mention money, just treat them like a normal girl, where the two of you know the outcome already. Treat her nice, make her laugh, and if you two get along great, then definitely give her an amount geared toward the high side plus taxi. For 2-3 hours, then go with R$300 or a bit more if you want. If she just eats and runs, and you two really do not have any chemistry, then stick with minumum, say R$150-200 for the hour. It all depends on you and her.

If you go in the same club again, and the same girl sees you and wants to go again, and you are not so inclined, just be up front with her and tell her that you want to experience other girls. They will understand, and will try and lower their prices so that you will go with them again. The choice is up to you.

Well, Im back from spending Dec. in the good ol US of A and I've got a lot of catching up to do. I plan on not getting back into the work mode until around the 20th. I need these first 20 days to make up for the month I missed of mongering, so Im gonna double up..ha ha!

Cali vs SP

I was 7 times in Cali but the last time was 3 years ago. Cali is going down and down since the Cartel was dismantled. I heard the security situation was not improving, that the guerrilla was coming closer ... But none of this, as far as I know, has never deterred anyone from enjoying Cali. I fact, when I flew to Cali, the old, rusted and undermaintained MD-jets of Avianca flying the line Bogota-Cali was what most scared me. It's some time now since they had a crash, so the Gods of statistics are getting impatient, beware and tremble!

With the Real down from its heights, the monetary situation is pretty much the same in both places, with Cali perhaps still 15% cheaper.

Taxis, a big part of any monger's budget, are 50% cheaper in Cali than in SP. On the other hand, SP's subway is totally safe and a remarkably efficient means of going about this sprawling city during daytime.

Hotels may be a problem in Cali: few to choose from and they are not very good. Some very good value for money in SP as far as accomodation is concerned but same problem with "addicionales", i.e. they make you pay to have a girl in and it's often cheaper to take the girl to one of the "moteles".

The girls are about as beautiful in both places, with more dark-skinned ones in SP. On the whole, SP is a bigger place, with many layers of night-life, from the seedy to the classy. But Cali is by no means a small place: considering it only has 1.5 million souls compared to 10 million in SP, its nigh-life is very substantial! What Cali lacks compared to SP is (1) real high-class places and (2) blue movie theaters with girls prowling between rows offering hand jobs. You find these two things in SP.

Coke as much a part of daily life in SP than in Cali.

Condoms equally compulsory in both places.

Cali has an astonishing concentration of marriage agencies and a big percentage of girls are interested in getting married to a gringo. No such thing in SP where girls seem perfectly satisfied with trading sex for money and enjoying life in their "Pais Tropical".

If time is no problem for you, try out both places. I am sure they are the two single hottest places in SA right now.
