BTW, not sure about the comfort level of the long haul bus rides, these days in Brazil, but back then, there were legs of the trip (to some smaller town/cities), where standing up for the bus ride was your only option. I'm sure the long haul buses are lot better these days and with Brazilian airfares being fairly cheap, traveling by plane is the larger cities is the better way to go.

Although those long haul bus routes, could be dangerous at times (robbery, wannabe Aryton Senna F1 bus drivers, passengers puking...etc), it was a great way to meet and see the Brazilian northest and southest contryside and locals.

Visited Porto Seguro during carnaval last week.

The bus is quite comfortable so if time is not an issue, it is a good way to go. Paraty and Ilha Grande are easy to get around walking so not so important where you rent. At Paraty, do highly recommend renting a private boat to take you around. Saw a really cool orange monkey and a large lizard and the water is crystal clear. Do keep an eye on your captain as ours was making moves on my date pretty much non-stop. Ilha Grande I recommend finding a place away from where the boats let off as this can be a fairly busy area. Went for a hike with my date and we came out on a secluded section of beach. In the distance was a guy fishing. Guess he thought it was an invitation when we took off our clothes and my girl started going down on me as he rapidly came towards us losing his shorts. I certainly recommend both places for traveling just because the nature is so spectacular, and there are more to life than carnal pleasures. Having said that, someone had once told me there are GDPs in every Brazilian town, no matter how small, so I saw some success.

ILHA GRANDE.

The older I get, the more I value time and convenience over money. In order to get to Ilha Grande you can easily catch a bus to Conceiceo de Jacare, and then a fast boat to the island. But that meant having to grab a cab to to the rodoviaria first, then get on a bus, then find a boat. Instead, we just hired a contact our Airbnb host sent us and paid $R300 for the full transfer that included the boat. That's less than $40 each. A bargain in my book.

There are no motor vehicles on the island, hence no cabbies to help you locate GDPs, so your best bet is porters (carregadores). They wait for you at the pier upon arrival. Befriend one or two, exchange Whatsapps and ask if they can help. Our porter sent us 2 photo sets. One was ugly, another was cute, but as we found out, she'd been working in Buzios and was supposed to get back on the date of our departure. Too bad!

Our flight out of Brazil was from GRU, and the local bus schedule meant we would have to get on the bus to Sao Paulo at 9:30 am in order to make our flight at 10 pm. So we hired a cab that took us to the airport in 5. 5 hours. Pricey, but worth it IMHO. Would've been much faster, but they'd closed 2 lanes out of 3 on approach to Guarulhos.

Mongering or no mongering, I strongly recommend both places.

Porto Seguro, Arraial d'Ajuda, Trancoso and Caraíva.

Some notes on these four cities in Bahia. What they all have in common are beaches, brazilian tourists and party in different extents.

* Caraíva:
P4P: I think there are no P4P.
Regular girls: Might try local girls or tourist girls, but Caraíva is small so you might need some luck.

* Trancoso:
