This forum isn't very active but I'm going to do my best to document my experiences here.

Day 0:

Flight: Flew in from Rio de Janeiro on LATAM, flight was fine, immigration line took forever but that was mostly because there were a bunch of flights that arrived at the same time. I was at the back of the line and by the time I left the queue was almost empty. No one either in Rio or in immigration asked for a return ticket. Only weird thing is they keep saying you have to do the agricultural survey which they seem to take very seriously. I did it but no one actually checked it.

To city: I read that the taxis are all scammy so I took a colectivo. They have counters inside the airport and are really polite and quick. I paid for my ticket and within five minutes the colectivo had departed making my stop first. Total was like 8. 8 lukas. I had a big suitcase and backpack but had no problems and they even helped me with my luggage.

Hotel: I went to the best western estacion central. It's a good international hotel. Generally quiet with strong AC. My only complaint is that the wifi does cut out for a couple of minutes every couple of hours. There is security at the front desk but I think their main purpose is to prevent criminals from entering rather than enforcing any policy. It is very close the university of santiago and the associated metro station. I planned on staying closer to plaza de armas but unfortunately my airbnb cancelled on me at the last minute.

ATM and sim card: ATMs can be found in the metro stations and in every couple of blocks depending on where you stay. The fees are ridiculous though, 8. 5 k per transcation with a 200 k limit per transaction. Fortunately my schwab card reimburses it but it is bad. Sim cards are great here. You can buy them off the street. I picked movistar because I heard it is the best. Put it into you phone, restart it and in a couple of minutes you will get a text saying your number is activated and you get a complimentary 2 gigs data plus something like 90 minutes calling, all for just 500 pesos (or I think it is free if you get it from the actual movistar shop). Topping up can be done via foreign credit card on the movistar website for a nominal fee of 680 pesos.

I was tired after the day and so I called it a night without any action.

Day 1:

I did a free walking tour at 9:30. Took the metro at that time and it was completely empty. It started in plaza de armas. There were a handful of streetwalkers there. The obvious ones were some sort of black (probably carribean) ones. There were a handful of other sexily dressed girls, who were pretty hot, but I wasn't sure if they were streetwalkers or not and I wasn't going to blow my cover in the middle of the tour. Visited the national history museum which is pretty good but only in Spanish so probably a waste of time if you can't read / speak it at least decently well, and the human rights museum, which is good but really nothing after you go to a holocaust musuem. I went to Cathedral Pariso at the basement as previously described. A few more details to add to those that may be visiting that may help others that don't speak Spanish. My time of visit was about 5 pm, there were about 40 guys and only standing room. There were about 15 or so girls. The dance shows would occur for about 10 min (2 or 3 songs) and there was you stood at a railing and when she came by, you could touch her ass or whatever. They hyped up one show where two girls did a small lesbian show. I made a brief stopover in Santiago. Thanks to all the great posters, especially LocalExplorer, for their beautiful reports and kind sharing of their knowledge and wisdom. Here are my very rushed notes.

* General notes.

- Flying into Chile: an eager airline gate agent asked if I had a return ticket. Which I, of course, did not have, so I pretended to be looking for it on my phone and bought a refundable ticket on the spot. After showing it to her, she did some puzzled button pushing but was eventually satisfied and let me board. No one else cared about my return ticket, including the Chilean immigration agent. So I refunded the ticket as soon as I got into the city. Beware and be prepared.

- Crossing the border: the immigration agent asked more questions than usual, including about what other countries I have been to recently. But after a few questions he let me through.

- Getting into the city: Uber works well, and there's strong wifi inside and outside the airport, strong enough to cover the uber pickup area. Cost me about $20 to go downtown.

- Getting around: this time I decided to stay in the stinking downtown, within a few blocks of all the hot spots mentioned in the other reviews. So I just walked. Airport is about 20 minuntes ride from downtown.

- Money: most ATMs would not work for my US cards! Only Banco Estado eventually parted with a stack of pesos. There's a flat 5500 peso withdrawal fee, so it may be advisable to take out as much as you can in one transaction when (if) you find an ATM that would be amenable to your advances.

- Connectivity: local sim cards are cheap (I think 1500 pesos) and have decent data speed.

I decided to quickly sample the 3 types of places mentioned: "topless" bars, "cafes", and massage places from the forum.

I don't speak any Spanish, which made things complicated in some ways. But then I have simple needs (basic BBBJ+CFS) so I am easily pleased.

First I went to Galeria del Punky (GP) San Pablo 1145 -- there are several "cafes" with girls looking out of them, most of them are just regular girls, not ugly, not particularly beautiful. After entering from either street, just keep climbing down. It really is quite obvious but the shopping center is not called "catedral", it's called "Caracol Bandera" - it's written in big letters. Then just keep climbing down, and it will be there at the end.

4000 to enter, then there were some guys hanging around and some girls wandering about. Some girls were active, trying to rub against me and pull me somewhere (to which I said no), others were hanging around in small groups discussing Important Girl Things with each other and not paying attention to any of the surroundings. This is where my complete lack of Spanish has hurt me because I had no idea how to try out those rubbing and hugging sessions and how to do those private dances without ending up owing them more than what I had in my pockets. Then I went to a massage place that was also about 2 blocks away (found it on laestokada). They had 3 girls that day but only 2 available, both showed up in turn, I picked one named Sofia (if I remember correctly). Finally, I wanted to have another encounter since I only had one day in Santiago. I contacted one of the individual massage girls from laestokada and she promptly stood me up. We agreed to meet at 7:30, I got to where she told me to get at that time, but she stopped responding. So I stuffed my face with a meat sandwich from a nearby restaurant and went to sleep still kinda satisfied from the daily activity. But I got the impression that there are many girls available, I just was unlucky with this particular one.

In summary, to me Santiago appears perfectly manageable. It's not as good or as cheap as the neighboring countries, but the availability is there and the prices are reasonable and for someone with more time on his hands it would be possible to discover the gems that are doubtlessly out there. I would not come here for the hobby alone, but if I had other reasons to be here, I would welcome the opportunity knowing that I could be getting action every day.

OK, so as a follow-up to the cafe post, let me share the experiences of going to the "toples" bars of Santiago. "Toples" (one s) is the name used by Chileans, so I'll stick with it. Most of the ones I visited belong to one chain, with the keyword in the name "Paraiso" (not to be confused with "Paradiso") . If you hear a man on the street offering you "paraiso" in a hushed voice with a card in hand, he's inviting you to one of these clubs.

First of all, they're not really bars. They don't sell beverages. Or they offer just one type type, non-alcoholic (like Red Bull), and at a steep price. But nobody drinks anyway. Some customers bring their own drinks, like Powerade in a bottle. Second of all, they're not so much topless, it's more of a full-strip venue, where groping the naked stripper is absolutely normal. Tits, pussy, just don't insert your finger. And try to read what the stripper is okay with, for best effect.

Even more surprising perhaps, is that these are DAY venues, noon until 9:30 PM or 10 PM. Entrance is 4000 CLP, in some 3000 CLP. On two weekdays that I checked (Friday, Monday) there were quite a few men already around 1 PM-3 PM. Everyone's dressed in street clothes, I'd say most are underdressed. Many have backpacks. But they look very average in the positive sense. There's everything from elderly gentlemen, to very horny 20-year olds. It's a mix.

The bars don't have dedicated strippers as such. For all of them the stripping is like a side job, or a side obligation. Most of the time they stand or sit in the main area, offering "extras", and they strip in rotation, with long breaks. I'd say there's a show / strip 1/3 or 1/4 of the time, and only if there are enough customers. But sex is the end game for all the girls. The strip is just to entice you to take a "private session" ("privado") or at least a "private dance" (baile / bailecito privado). The private dance (5000 CLP) is done standing up, in a corridor leading to the girls' changing room, behind a curtain. This, in fact, is just a sample of what will be offered in the proper private session, allowing you to gauge if you really want to go all the way. The private session costs between 20 000 CLP and 50 000 CLP, usually you'll get quoted two options: 25 000 CLP or 40 000 CLP, and you substract the cost of the private dance from that, if you took it.

I always took the 25 000 CLP option, as the more expensive ones were just not convincing. The 50 k CLP offer I once got included anal, and it was in some bigger bathroom or some "better" storage room. Who cares. In the end 25 000 CLP for 15 minutes max is the going rate, but YMMV, it's not unusual to get quoted more.

So where are the toples bars / clubs? Most are concentrated in the northern part of the center of Santiago, especially around Bandera street:

1/ Catedral (Paraiso Catedral) - on the corner of Catedral and Bandera (around -33.43731788213332, -70.65245046296722). It's on the lowest level of the "Catedral" Shopping Galleria. After entering from either street, just keep climbing down.

Own experience. In my opinion, this one is the best. There were always a large number of girls, customers, and shows, whenever I came in. And there was quite a lot to choose from.

2/ FashionGirls. Bandera 642, between Rosas and Santo Domingo (around -33.435955266712774, -70.65316243001527), in the basement of the galleria, just keep going down.

Own experience. Went there twice, it's OK, similar size to Catedral, but not even close in number and quality of girls, and the number of shows.

3/ Morande (Paraiso Morande) - Morande 783 (around -33.43456107003983, -70.65435027214157) - it was kind of OK, a bit smaller than the previous clubs, but not much happening.

4/ Bandera (Paraso Bandera) - Bandera 862 (around -33.4335757, -70.6533144) - easily the worst of the four; I came in around 2-3 PM, all the women were older and most ugly, max 6/10. No shows when I was there, the common area and show area is a few times smaller, there seems to be an upstairs for private sessions. Left me totally unimpressed.

Just please be aware, some of the lesser-known strip bars, especially the ones operating at night, are both highly overpriced and, according to quite a few posters in the forum, drug their customers by adding stuff to their drinks to entice them to spend more. Be warned and do diligent research. Google Translate is your friend, again.

Now what was my tactic in these bars? I liked the shows and the groping, so I'd gently send off all the girls offering me sessions immediately after entering. If they came to chat, do some preliminary grinding and just sit with me, it's totally fine, I'd enjoy all these free activities. I loved the somewhat amateurish shows. After an hour or two of observing and some chatting (and some groping), I could get a picture of who's good-looking AND friendly to me, and I would be more willing to go to a private dance and session. If the private dance was so-so, and the girl turned indifferent, I'd skip the main course.

During a few recent visits to Santiago de Chile, I visited some cafes con pierna. I decided to write up my experience, so you can learn from it too. I'the like to thank Gary Levy (aka WT69) for sharing the famous cafe map, although in the end I took a slightly different approach than his map, as I explain below. It's worth noting that I see the cafes as a curiosity, a tourist attraction of sorts. I'm interested in „what is this good for" and „how does it work for me" rather than trying to make it fulfil my pre-existing, well-defined needs.

OK, so first of all, Chileans divide the cafes (abbreviated to CCP) into 3 categories:

1/ Type 1 - also known as „cafes de media pierna" (cafe with half a leg) - are cafes with enthusiastic female servers in skimpy outfits, who converse with customers. No touching is allowed, it's just conversation. These cafes have transparent glass, or even have a beer garden of sorts, and are often frequented by elderly gentlemen, men eager not to be tempted for more, but most of all just friends meeting for a chat, with the added benefit of girls that you can look at. Cafe Tarantino is a good example of this.

2/ Type 2 - touching is allowed and expected, as is grinding, and hugging. You pay per „dance", but extra services are not provided. Usually you can grope their tits and between their legs through clothes, kiss them here and there if that's your thing, or perhaps you can reach under their clothes. And they'll grope you. Usually clothes are not removed. Gazú is a great example of this category.

3/ Type 3 - like type 2, but extras are provided in private and some nudity happens quite often!

3 a / My own category „3 a" - where sometimes action happens in the open (HJ, BJ or even outright sex).

Extras are HJs or sex. BJs are extremely rarely offered as a stand-alone „product", are almost always covered, usually as very short foreplay before sex. Worth noting is that any form of sex in cafes is forbidden by law (as is all organised prostitution), which means the sex will usually happen in a very small and dirty bathroom, where you can barely fit in with the girl. Or a very small dressing room behind curtains. Forget about a bed or comforts. You'll be doing it standing up in a micro-bathroom, and the girl won't be trying hard. After the deed, the girl will carefully dispose of the condom. All in all, for full sex. Not really my thing.

There are 4 „traditional" galleries of cafes you should be aware of. The cafes change, their prices, opening times, services offered. But they stay in the same areas:

1/ Galeria de LOS Peluqueros (GDP) - Merced 839 - in English: the Hairdressers' Gallery (entrance -33.438224387902906, -70.64893209013074). Go DOWN the winding ramp (it's a ramp for walking, not for cars). The first cafe had 2 naked girls dancing, offering dances with touching (30 seconds per dance as it turned out), and put great pressure to immediately go to private. I say: skip it. The other 3 or so cafes are more typical type 3 cafes, with rather friendly ladies, nothing hardcore, but 2000 CLP per long dance (plus your own one drink for 2000 CLP) with some groping of bare titties and / or very friendly attitude is good enough for me.

2/ Galeria Santiago Centro (GSC), Alameda 949 (entrance -33.443111530769826, -70.64984298995527) - is an enormous maze of cafes in the basement level of this shopping center. At the (open air) entrance go down the escalators. It's just cafes con pierna, 23 of them, including 7 called Starleg and 7 called Alibaba. So it's best to refer to them by their store number (such as 114 A), presented at the entrance to each store. These are chiefly type 2 cafes, with some type 3 mixed in. I found them pretty overpriced, I asked around GSC and a simple dance usually costs 4000-5000 CLP, whereas in other cafes outside GSC it costs 2000-3000 CLP. „Cafe Blacks" (119 B) was cool, type 3, if you like black women. 3/ Galeria del Punky (GP) San Pablo 1145 (entrance: -33.43421561386603, -70.65379090439704) - a galeria with most „3 a" category around. The first cafe on the left and the first on the right definitely qualify.

— Own experience: In the first cafe on the left a guy was just getting a blowjob when I entered, but in the end I was not convinced by „my girl" (the only other girl in the cafe) for something more than a dance. In the cafe on the right I decided to get serviced in the common room, but the girl wasn't really happy about it and the service was very short, score of 1/10 - waste of time and money. I also had a „dance" from a Chilean girl in the cafe deepest inside the gallery, door to the cafe facing the entrance. She was probably the most friendly of all the ladies I met, but I didn't decide to take her beyond a dance.

4/ Galeria Diagonal Cervantes (N entrance: -33.43413705412438, -70.64931052908665, S entrance: -33.43443541268718, -70.64948831518007) - a VERY seedy place, the gallery smells of piss, the girls stand outside the individual cafes, enticing you to enter. The area is often frequented by large numbers of men who only loiter around, although are not aggressive in any way. Most of the girls are very fat and unattractive, but there are some exceptions. I did not enter any of the cafes, but hey, whatever rocks your boat. Worth passing by to see. Seems safe enough.

Except these 4, there are numerous concentrations of 2-4 cafes around the city. But please note: it's not fully up-to-date. Only the most popular places.

Worth noting is also an extensive network of type 2 (not type 3) cafes called Gazú, which seem to have good quality control of the ladies and activities, and pretty reasonably priced (3000 CLP for your drink, 3000 CLP for a dance).

Personally I came to like Cafe Imperio (Teatinos 412, first cafe going from the corner, entrance -33.43881618103344, -70.65550376602292). The ladies are in their late 20's-early 30's, but this is very much to my liking, and for their age many of them are very attractive indeed (between 7 and 9 by my books YMMV), and very friendly! It's a type 3/3 a cafe, 1000 CLP for your drink and 2000 CLP for a dance. The dance is longer than in many other cafes (a full song), lots of grinding and groping of bare tits, kissing if that's your thing, and at the second or third dance they discreetly start doing a HJ to entice you to a HJ (or sex) in private, the former of which is 20.000 CLP. And that includes all the dances you received. I think it's a pretty good deal.

Cafes usually open at around 10 AM and close at 8 PM, sometimes 9 PM or perhaps. Rarely - even 10 PM. In case of cafes in galerias (shopping centres), it will almost always be 8 PM, as that's when the galleries close. You can try your luck with cafes outside of galleries, but in the early evening the best idea is to go to a „toples", something more of a strip club, but where touching is allowed and you can easily get extras. These close at 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM. Or go to an „escort".

There are two extensive Spanish-language forums where men share experiences and opinions about the cafes and the girls. One is the aforementioned laestokada<DOT CL, the second is the smaller website lacamilla<DOT CL (go to „Foro", choose Zona Cafetera — Cafe con piernas from the drop-down list, which defaults to „Masajes = Publicaciones" Use Google Translate and do your research.

Cafe Gazu was closed for the weekend. The girl I sessioned with said pretty much all the nasty Cafes would be closed on Sunday. Was not there on Sunday so can't verify but I would guess these places would be closed on Sunday. Sorry for the bad news. I then walked to the other side of PDA. I actually saw some caf de piernas while riding on the hop on hop off bus. These last cafes were on Teatinos near the corner of Compania De Jesus. Only name I could remember was caf tropical and the others were next to it. I believe four cafes next to each other. Caf tropical was closed the day I went so went into the one farthest from the corner. The girl said it was 3000 for the drink and 5000 for the dance. I was ready to walk but said screw it, lets see if this dance is worth 5000. It was good with lots of stick shifting but not any better than the others.
