Posts: 392It's a site with a forum for mongers in Santiago. My Spanish isn't good enough to get the most from it but you may enjoy it, the guys' reports are funny.
http://www.laestocada(DOT)cl/home/
Using a translator program I was able to glean much good info from the site before my trial membership (you need to register) shut down. I wouldn't know how to go about paying with a cc in Spanish.
Back again at the end of August.

I did a little research last night for you re Arica. As I said before, this TomBrad guy is very informative and has a decent page about life in Arica. If I had a spare month I could see myself up there sampling the local culture so to speak. Here's a link to his whole page. in English
http://www.infoarica.********.com/
And I'll cut and past the mongering aspects in case you have trouble with the link or don't want to wade through the data.

Arica: The Alternative Guide
The most comprehensive site in the web on Arica, Chile: what to do, where to go, what to see, how to get there, how much it cost, where those places are, what to avoid, plus, minus, manners, costumes, dangers, girls, boys, drinks, food, oddities, delights and many MANY more.
Folklore, salsa, sex bars, prostitutes
29 mayo 2005
There is a good folkloric bar called "Kamisaraki" with food, drinks and Andean music. It is located in Diego Portales avenue and the best days to go are weekends.
In 21 de Mayo with Patricio Lynch streets there is a nice Salsoteca called Habana Vieja. Weekends there is sometimes live salsa.
In 18 de Septiembre street passing Patricio Lynch There is "café Sófocles" a sex bar with performances only at night. There are several regular and sex bars in the surroundings. Best in area is "Chill Out" in 18 de Septiembre with Patricio Lynch streets.
At the side of casino (Velasquez with Chacabuco Street) there is a tiny but very good sex bar called "Rapa Nui", It is owned by a good friend of mine and.in my opinion- it is the best night club in town, their blog with prices (chilean pesos)here.
There are few brothels in Arica (most prostitutes work freelance. You can check their phone numbers in the printed edition of local newspaper "La Estrella de Arica"). The older brothels are "Skorpios" in Pedro Aguirre Cerda street and Casa Amarilla in Anibal Pinto street. Any taxi driver knows how to get there. Another traditional brothel is "Residencial Latorre" at Latorre near Ohiggins Street.
In Juan Noe street, near Casino Municipal there are some hookers, mostly transvestites. It is better to avoid, as they are under no control at all and connected with delinquents and drug traffickers. Casino Arica bar has also plenty of pricey hookers at night.
A new.and probably better- brothel is Sandra y Judith, located in Colón Street near downtown, there are also another without name at Gallo near San Marcos Streets.
Anyway the best paid sex in the area is located in Tacna at Las Cucardas in Campiña de Pocollay, a big brothel with many girls and several orders of magnitude cheaper than in Arica (about US$ 10.. So I have heard). Any taxi driver will carry you there. It is outside of the city and you may feel nervous at first because the isolated location, but it is a safe place.
There you have it, happy mongering!

Posts: 392Schwmmr, no, I haven't yet tried Arica but there's a guy called Tombrad on the allchile forum who lives up there and is a fellow monger I suspect. He has his own site that list a lot of useful facts (bars of ill repute) and I would be surprised if he didn't help another cultural traveler.
Try laestocada.cl/foros
you'll need to register (they use the same software as ISG). It's a great source for the Santiago scene. My guest membership ran out a week before this trip so I'm out here reading by braille. Another expedition tonight, report to follow.

Posts: 392bait n' switch is alive and well in santiago. gotta laugh at the prior posters linking that barrio rojo site. if any of you think of contacting a girl with a 632 7680 number, think again. as the hag that greeted my astonished face said; "she is a receptionist" (and probably starred in all the pics too). are you getting this? the barrio de rojo site is extremely suspect. my own experiences with the sexo.cl one have been sub par in performance, but honest.
hey peeps, we're out here on the frontier going where no sane man would go so that you have a nice day, take heed!

Posts: 3Thanks, this was very helpful. Looks like the girls on the website resemble women in Argentina, but perhaps not as business-like. Can anyone comment on if the pics are a true representation or BS like a lot on internet sites are?

Chilean mayor to offer free viagra to older men
For the first time in Chile, a mayor plans to give out free Viagra to men 60 and older in his town to improve their "quality of life" four times a month, according to media reports.
"This has to do with quality of life and it's done responsibly. It's not just like handing out candy at the corner," Gonzalo Navarrete, a physician and mayor of the poor town of Lo Prado south of Santiago, told Las Ultimas Noticias daily.
He said any man 60 years and older who wants it can have up to four Viagra pills a month after undergoing a thorough medical exam to avoid potentially harmful side effects of the drug Sildenafil.
"We'll give out four, 50 milligram pills, in other words, for four sexual relationships per month," Navarrete said, adding that the program would have a starting cost of about 20,000 dollars.
The mayor said the idea for his unprecedented move came from hearing older men in his town complain about not getting enough sex.
He did have some advice, however, for the Viagra seekers: "Sildenafil doesn't get you going without direct stimulation."

I have never been to Chile. I think that the problem is two-fold:
(1) The prices are, indeed, higher than the rest of LA.
(2) There is a lack of information.
Forums such as BA have entire sites dedicated to them...in ENGLISH. Few people go to Chile, and the ones that do are unable to go with credible intel.
I will be heading to Chile next month. If anyone has some places they'd like me to check out or questions they want answered, let me know.

Posts: 392Everything is more expensive. If you are a gringo, the gringo tax is high too (about $100/hr). Using La Estocada forum's negotiated rates might help (I'll post on this later, after my next trip). I can't comment on the rents but taxis, chicas, drinks (less so) are all higher. Check out the excellent Argentina forum for this one.

Sex Worker Aids Charity
SANTIAGO, Chile -- A sex worker in Chile is doing what she does best to raise money for the country's largest charity.
Maria Carolina has auctioned 27 hours of sex to raise money for the country's poor, disabled children during an annual fund-raising campaign.
Ms. Carolina became an overnight celebrity, making news headlines and appearing on talk shows since she made her unique donation to the televised charity event, which runs for 27 hours beginning Friday evening.
"I've already auctioned off the 27 hours of love," she told the media, saying she had raised about $4,000. "One of my clients already paid. It seemed like a good deed to him."
Adult prostitution is legal in Chile. The two-day Telethon fundraiser is endorsed by television stars and other celebrities.
Speaking about Ms. Carolina's unusual donation, the fund-raiser's organizer, Mario Kreutzberger, said that, although he would not encourage "immoral" activities, he would accept her donation. Kreutzberger, as "Don Francisco", hosts the long-running Sabado Gigante program on the U.S. Spanish-language Univision network.
Ms. Carolina, who advertises her services on the internet, defended her money-raising scheme.
"There are people who are going to be donating money that's a lot more questionable than mine," she said. "The only thing I did was publicize it."

Thanks Johan,
I kind of thought the same when I went on the web searching for such sites that it's not like Colombia where you can find tons of sites.
Since I never been to Chile, I think it might be a good idea to know someone there before going to a new country, someone that can be like a companion.
Talisman.
