We'll, I've been checking my passport status every day basically since I initially handed in the application and made my first post. Since then I've been researching, getting in shape, and trying to plan a trip.
Initially I was all in on Colombia, though after research I must admit I've definitely been mulling over other options, though I'm still leaning pretty heavily towards Medellin (considering Costa Rica, Brazil, and Dominican Republic).
At first I planned for the first week of July. Now it seems I'll be able to go in as early as 4-5 weeks.
So idk, I guess it's going to happen a bit earlier than I anticipated. Prolly still lookin at hotel m. 9 ish day trip.
I guess hit me with any last minute preparations, need to knows, or anything else.
So far basically what I've gathered:
Use Uber over taxis.
Don't wave money around.
Don't wear jewelry.
Buy a cheap burner phone for public use / don't use phone in public.
Don't go far at night.
Don't go to clubs alone.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Keep your valuables locked in the safe.
Only carry what you can afford to lose.
Don't let anyone give you a drink / touch your drink / accept an already open drink.
Tip security and tell them not to let a girl leave unless she's escorted by you.
That's basically my general safety list. Def want to have a good time but also be careful. As my trip looks like it's getting moved ahead quite a bit for sure would like to get all bases covered ASAP.
As always appreciate the insight you guys have offered.
Special shout out to jbee. You might not have said much but it actually motivated the fuck out of me. I'm nervous but ready.

In Sosua throwing extra money caused motoconchos (moto taxi) usually it 50 peosos maybe even 100 pesos max to go from Playa Sosua to Anvhee or vice versa, but gringo comes along and its all of a sudden 200 pesos. (little to gringos, but allot to a local).
This is already effecting Cartagena where prices are higher where gringos frequent such as Playa Hollywood, as opposed to a 5 minute walk on the same beach toward to ElLaguito where many gringos don't go, the same exact menu items are cheaper. Or my favourite is when the club where the gringos frequent all of a sudden stop serving domestic beers and only have imported more expensive beers after a certain time at night.
I'm not sure if Medelin was effected as I've never been and I doubt there are gringos stupid enough to throw money in the air there (literary) the way they do in DR clubs or Cartagena clubs (Personally I've seen this in Dolce and Delirium and videos online of them even doing it at the ClockTower).

https://co.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/
As of May 1, 2022, visitors to Colombia ages 18 or older will need to provide proof of complete vaccination for entry or a negative COVID test (48 hours in advance of travel for an antigen test or 72 hours in advance of travel for a PCR test). Travelers should be prepared to show their original, physical vaccination card or digital certificate both at airline check-in and when passing through Colombian Immigration. The vaccination document must include the individual’s full name, date of vaccination, name of the vaccine administered, and the number of doses administered. A photo of one’s vaccination card may not be accepted. If you completed your vaccination scheme within 14 days before entry to Colombia you will also need to have an antigen test 48 hours prior to arrival or a PCR test 72 hours prior to arrival in Colombia.

The Dominican Republic is a much smaller place than Colombia and perhaps the supply of wet holes was unable to keep up with the demand by swinging dicks, and that will drive up price in a free marked every time.
However, Colombia is much larger place and the sex worker trade is a free market, and price is determined by supply and demand, and not by what mongers spend. You did not specifically mention the price of Pay for Play, so maybe that was not what you meant when you talked about markets getting "ruined" but I think that is at the core for most mongers.
Ostee Out.

As my grandma used to say, unless you're made of sugar you're not going to melt when it rains, and it will be neither freezing or sweltering here when it does.
As far as learning Spanish, there is no better proven method than "immersion" or being forced to use it because of where you are living of visiting. And stop for a moment and think about learning Spanish compared to Thai or Vietnamese or any SE Asian language, and the benefit becomes more obvious.

I remember my first trip to SEA I was at the bar and backpackers twice my age was saying how us new travelers messed up everything by offering money needlessly for everything so in turn police were now trying to arrest foreigners to get bribes, or taxis were not turning on the meter and just say a fair that was 4 x the meter amount.
Uganda, Tanzania, or Nigeria is next to become ruined.

Posts: 4Thanks everyone for the feedback. I really appreciate your input and it's been the most interesting suggestions I've gotten so far!
I've been reading the forums as a lurker for a few months and it's been really interesting to see that all the mongers in SE Asia say South America is the new paradise. Although several of you recommended Thailand, the SE Asia mongers are leaving that scene and are adamant it has been ruined.
I'll definitely do more research on Chile and Montenegro, but I would be lying if I told you I wasn't partial to Medellin. The weather alone is a huge attraction for Medellin, but my biggest concern is knowing very basic Spanish (not enough to carry a full conversation). I'm sure I can pick it up relatively quick at my age but it's still a concern.
Thanks again!

I'm far from 40 and if its $2500 a month it would be Pattaya Thailand, The money goes further and the girls are on their best behavior where if the gringo does not go looking for trouble to get set up and extorted he will not find it. Also once I got away from the bar girl scene and went to freelancer clubs I just had a much better experience where many girls were willing to do it for free and was not all about P4P, they just wanted a good time and some foreign chocolate jajaja.

Posts: 387The amount of income needed depends on your lifestyle and how much of that is taxed. As a general rule of thumb, I'd say your money goes 2.5 to 3 x as far in Colombia as the USA So $2500/ mth is similar to $80,000 to $90,000 lifestyle in the USA.
$2500 should be fine if you live a basic lifestyle with no car (expensive in Colombia), nice 2 bedroom in safe area, eat out regularly, and a couple dates a week. If you're not fluent in Spanish and haven't been to Colombia frequently I would suggest Medellin to start and look at Laureles and maybe Poblado (after you figure out your budget). It's getting more expensive, but the Paisa attitude is pretty chill and there are enough gringos around that you could find a social group.
Check out Medellin Guru for more info. I personally think I'd be bored to death if I retired that early, but to each their own!
