I have been to Costa Rica 3 times. Every time I go my favorite girls are Colombians. They are best looking any way IMO. I was hoping it would be my next destination. It being easier to get to and all from the states. It just seems to me every other post on here about Colombia is some one being drugged, robbed, shot, stabbed or you can't go here or there. On top of that I will more than likely be solo. So I guess I will have to go ahead and shoot for Thailand. Please if I am wrong or missing something let me know I welcome all info and opinions. I have been traveling for pussy for over 25 years. Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia. I have been to 37 countries but I visited each of these countries multiple times principally to play. I am a reasonably cautious traveler, but I'm not going to walk around so scared that I have a bad trip and project the fear that will attract the sharks like blood in the water. I'm returning to Medellin for the 11th time in July. Everything tends to go back in the safe when I get home, I watch my drinks, I'm careful who I take and where I stay. Over the 25 years, over 100 trips and thousands of girls I was held up once at gun point in Brazil (2001), had a cell phone stolen in Bangkok (2012) and was drugged and robbed once in MDE (2018). In each case I let my guard down for a moment and the shark pounced. As an old Brazilian Girlfriend told me, I walk like John Wayne and they can see me coming a mile away. I'm very big and very white and I don't blend regardless of what I wear. I can't remember how many times they attempted to get me but I avoided it. I have clamped down on hands entering my pockets, poured out drinks I have let out of my sight, taken a cab to go four blocks at night, barely escaped a wolf pack of street kids in Rio and in once case decked a persistent snatch and grab artist in Buenos Aires. Perhaps one day I will write my memoirs LOL.

Tokyo tops the list as the world's safest city. That is where you go if you want safety (and sushi). Though you are going to pay at least eight times what you will pay in Medellin to get laid once, less than what I lost in any of those 3 incidents. I remember years ago someone following me (I'm sure to) rob me in San Jose late at night. I ducked into a Casino to loose him and then took a taxi home. That said I think MDE is only moderately more dangerous than San Jose. In my mind the quality and quantity of girls, the vastly superior food and infrastructure more than offset perhaps a small additional risk. Carry only what you are willing to loose, consider a theft resistant like PacSafe bag to carry your stuff, stay in a safe building with security that validates and records ID, don't be flashy, don't get drunk in public (being solo) and don't walk down deserted streets at night. Almost everyone who gets bit (including me), let their guard down for at least a moment. Announce your trip here in ISG and perhaps you can acquire a wingman.

I have been going to Medellin for nine years (39 times), always solo after the first two times. I haven't been robbed, drugged, or harmed in any way. I am an old guy, so I can't outrun hardly anyone. Use common sense and you should be fine. Also, I have stayed at the Mansion for two nights, that's all.

The Conrad Cartagena is great. Their section of the beach is private, so no need to worry about hawkers. Also, there are usually ladies in T backs for you admire while you sip on a Pina colada.

Like any place, even in the US, you need to be aware of your surroundings. I just got back from MDE / BOG / CTG and felt completely safe. I went with four other buddies and we didn't have any issue. Women were readily available but my friends really aren't into the scene so I can't report on any ladies this time around. The biggest thing is to know some Spanish but even then I saw plenty of Americans communicating with ladies via google translate and all went well. I'the say Medellin would be good for a first timer. Tons of ladies available at parque Lleras, hell, some even catcalled me in English: o. I'm going solo next year. So much pussy to be had there!

I'm kind of baffled. Others have better information, but my meager research makes me feel that the difference between Thailand and Colombia isn't that great when it comes to safety. Especially if you want some place easily accessible from the US and your favorites are Colombians.

Is it too dangerous? Yes. Absolutely. At least according to some people. Some will try to convince you that, you'll be lucky to survive a trip to Colombia. Personally I don't like to rely on luck.

Do you like to walk in a bar and drink until you can barely stand? If so, Colombia is too dangerous. You might get away with it a time or two, but eventually someone will relieve you of your valuables.

Do you believe all foreigners are terrified of doing anything against you because you're from the US? If so, Colombia is too dangerous for you. Most of the Colombians I know have a generally positive view of the US, but they aren't worried Uncle Sam is going to swoop in to save a gringo.

Do you insist on wearing your designer sunglasses and shiny jewelry everywhere you go? Do you like to have your new iPhone in your hand so everyone knows you're hip. If so, Colombia is too dangerous for you. There are plenty of Colombians who will look even cooler with all your accessories.

Or, do you take some responsibility for your own security? If so, do some research and you should be fine.

For reasons which I'll explain in a few weeks, I called my bank today to check on their exchange rate for Colombian pesos. The woman wanted to know how much I wanted to buy. I told her to tell me how many pesos I could get for $300. Simple enough.

A few seconds later she tells me, 20,000 pesos for $300. She wasn't willing to consider that she did something wrong, even when I explained that 20,000 was less than $7. Finally I convinced her to try again and walked her through the process. I still didn't get an answer I was happy with, but it was at least the correct one. Their rate is about 14% under the current rate. Definitely not a bargain.

If you have your own "sand", look at Tolu. It is down the west coast from Cartegena. It's a rather quaint area and very relaxing. I stayed at Centro Vacacional Camino Verde. Nice beach and rooms, but not much else.

Gearing up for my first Colombia trip as my friends say I need to give thailand a break haha. So a newbie buddy from South Florida is joining me who claims an ex co-worker (Yada Yada Yada LOL) told him about some casa in Colombia that draws your blood and once determined disease free you can proceed on barebacking the girls of the house. I told him I highly doubt there is such a thing, but I've learned to never say never.

Never understand why people keep shooting in the dark to depend on others for their own comfort and security. If you know there is shit you need, if you know there is shit you like and prefer, then BRING IT WITH YOU! When you check into one of those ST rooms in Santa Fe or go upstairs at some of the strip clubs, they charge you extra for the condom. I show them that I have my own and give them their cheap ass tight shit back.

It was good that I asked then and thank you guys for your input. I just wanted to know if I could buy a bunch at a pharmacy there easily and if the brands are recognizable. I should have been more specific in my original post so that's on me. I don't have a preference in terms of kind, just a decent brand or I'd buy it from here.
