Just got back from Medellin yesterday. Thanks to all the contributors, especially the ones who suggested staying in Laureles. Really fun part of town and feeling pretty safe at all hours or the day. Also from our hotel, taxi fares to the places we wanted to get to were $8000 cop or less with the exception during traffic hour. Landed around 00:15 and was out of customs about 10 minutes later. It was raining and not sure if this hour really sucks or was just an off day but went to catch a taxi and there wasn't one. I got behind a couple and waited about an half hour for a taxi to show up. If by chance anyone gets there at this time, I would suggest arranging transportation to your dwelling. I went with a friend and luck out because it was the week long Festival of Flowers celebration. I wasn't really interested in this celebration but what was really cool was on Monday they closed off part of Ca. 70 to hold a live free concert that started at 18:00 and ended at 02:00. When I said ended, I meant the free concert because people were partying all night. It was nice to participate in an event with so many locals and many good looking locals. The peso when we landed was $2,8 +, by Monday it went to $2,9 + the rest of the week. We stayed at a girl friendly hotel / apt which I will write about in the hotel section. I will also write about the places we went to in the Mde tread. Also, we took the one day Guatape with boat ride tour and that was great. The town of Guatape was really interesting. Highly recommend and believe it or not, most tours the food sucks, this tour the food was actually very good.

That's not true. I've bought several sim cards and was never even asked for an ID. Many places sell them and not just the cell phone stores.

Posts: 585And the chicas I know in medellin have been complaining. Working girls have more competition from chicas who look good and will do more for less. And girls looking for a regular job are having a harder time because the Venezuelans are willing to work for even less than the Colombian minimum.
I'ts not unlike the problem the ticos / ticas have in Costa Rica with the Nicos / Nicas, but perhaps on a larger scale.

Are there increasing numbers of refugees from Venezuela in Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, Cali. ? Friends now in Medellin are telling me that they see more and more Venezuelans, some obviously desperate, in places like El Centro.

I didn't bash anyone, just stated an easily confirmed fact. Read the forums. Look for the posts where someone wants to throw the wildest party ever. You'll find them about every 6 to 8 months. Now check the forum posts of the poster. I have seen no exception, they never post trip reports. In fact, they never post useful information. All of their posts are questions, usually questions which have already been answered many times.
The same is true for almost everyone who states they'll be sure to write a full report, when they ask the previously answered questions.
In defense, I've never stated that everyone should conform to my standards. If you would read the forums, you would see that I've written more than once, everyone should find what suits them and not worry about what other people are doing.

Tried Movistar and Claro and both the same answer Only Colombians can buy. Ministry of tourism is where I spent two hours trying to get an answer, so that's all I know. Relying on WiFi to keep in contact with chicas.
