Hey Dudes, I hope someone can give me the answer to this question. Wherever I go to have my fun I always end up liking the ladies and want to see them do well. I usually tell them to put a little money in the bank (while they can make it) and eventually buy a house or two, thus insuring a happy ending for themselves and their kids / family.

My question is what does that exactly entail in a country like Colombia. Do the ladies need to report their earnings and pay taxes or can they just put their money in the bank and someday but their own casa? What is required of these hookers (besides the actual saving of monies) to purchase their own house in Colombia? Anyone know?

I went through Bogota airport to by both Avianca and United / Copa Colombia to Medellin earlier this year, both times my checked luggage went directly to Medellin without customs at Bogota airport. With Avianca, you need to change terminal which is less than 5 minutes by taxi.

Hey guys, I'm planning on returning to CTG in November, my usual airlines has changed its flights. So I'm looking at Avianca. I would have to go thru Bogota, it would be DC to Bogota, then transfer to a domestic flight to CTG. The flight gets in around 9pm, how difficult / time consuming is the customs process there, I'm concerned about making the connecting flight. Avianca seems pretty strict about there carry-on policy (which is usually all I do) , so I'm assuming I need to get my checked bag In Bogota go thru customs, then re check my bag. Is it reasonable to think I can do that in 1 1/2 hrs. There is also another flight that leaves 45min later. Which may be a safer bet, or should I think of another itinerary completely.

I think the flight that leaves 45 minutes later will be your best bet. By the time you get through immigration and get your bag and get outside to take the bus you might have 45 minutes left. You will have to wait for the free bus, then the domestic terminal is like the 4th stop on the bus route. Or you could always pay for a taxi to save you time. They will probably want 10K to take you to the Puente Aereo. There you would check in for your domestic flight and recheck your bag. Then go upstairs through security and to your gate.

The new international terminal in Bogota is fantastic. You should have no problems making your flight to Cartagena within the 1 1/2 hour time frame. I am usually out the door with my bags within a half an hour when flying directly to Bogota from the States.

Not sure what you mean. It's always been a flat fee whether you wanted to take $20 or $200. Your are just limited by the withdrawal limits of the ATM you go to. Which is a lot lower than the limit of your bank.

I hear what you are saying Samu. But ATMs can be a hobbyist's best friend, can you imagine using all cash or traveller's checks on a trip for P4P? I don't think anyone does THAT anymore.
You just have to be careful with your usage, ATMs are handy for splurge of the moment situations.

In Bogota, I used New York Money in the Atlantis Mall to change USD to COP. I don't know a better place (yet) so I reasoned that they might not give me the best rate, but should be professional.

Usually when I've changed money in other countries, a mechanical counting machine is used to count the bills. Such machines, as I understand it, also detect counterfeit notes.

At New York Money the one person working there counted by hand. He counted several times before passing it through the window to me. Then I counted. I knew how many 50mil notes there should be. And counted again, then counted a third time. I was one 50mil note short.

I told him in Spanish that it was short and he allowed me to pass all the notes back through the window to him. He recounted, added one 50mil note to the stack, and returned to me. I asked why he didn't use a machine to count the notes. He pointed to a machine off to the side, not in use. I didn't understand the Spanish words he used to explain why it was not in use. Actually, I was pretty sure it was so he could shortchange foreigners. You can draw your own conclusion.

I really like Colombia. And I have had no problems here other than this one. I didn't lose any money. However, this experience reminded me to always protect my interests in all ways. Because as soon as you let your guard down, bad things can happen.

Nothing wrong with being careful but there is something wrong with being paranoid and having a negative attitude. How's your Spanish? Could the word the cashier used have been broken? Maybe malfunctioning? There could be 100 reasons as to why he wasn't using the machine and it easily could have been a mistake in counting out the bills. This is all in your head. Been watching too much Law & Order or CSI. Getting a criminals everywhere complex. Atlantis Mall! Sheesh!
