I've always solved this by having a Skype number, which I've had since 2006.

First it would depend on your ticket. If you are just supposed to be transiting then you may have to follow the international connection line and not be allowed to leave out. If you are allowed to leave out, then immigration in Bogota usually has hella long lines. You better order a wheelchair and act handicap if you plan on getting through that line quick. And don't forget you have to go back through immigration to leave out of the country, which is usually long too. You could do it if immigration was not a factor, but I would not even try it since it is. I will be in Lima from the 4th until the 9th of next month if you are around.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will not try to get to the city in Bogota. Was just trying impress the girl. Anyway will be in Lima only February 14 one night. Then traveling everywhere. Not a mongering trip because I will have a girl with me from here.

I do agree absolutely that having connectivity right from jump is amazing coming in to Colombia (for one thing, makes it so much easier to get that Uber from the airport instead of dealing with pissmobiles).

I just want to point out though, that in Colombia, cell phone service is so cheap now that it's literally 20-25% the cost of Fi. And they do sell simcards at the airport.

I think I have shilled for google Fi here before. For americans it is a great international mobile voice and data service but I have used rather in extensively in many countries including columbia, the philippines, thailand, Cambodia, malaysia, Indonesia, Australia but you get the idea. You can save a few pesos getting a local sim card but for me the convenience of having my phone on an active wheels down in a new country is more than worth a couple of dollars period. The knock on google Fi used to be it didn't support a wide varriety of phones (I love my Pixel), but it now supports many Samsung and iPhone models. And that's not considering the traffic. The wrong time of day it's going to take at least an hour each way by taxi. If there's no long line at immigration, if he takes the Transmilenio, he might be able to spend 30 minutes, but that's a lot of ifs.

Going to Peru via Bogota. Has three hour layover and was wondering is it enough time to go to El Centro ? Not a mongering visit. Going with a girl from here. Just want to take a look and back to airport. Peru trip to see sights, macchu Picchu, Lake titicaca, Lima and other sights.

Looking online it says need only half hour by taxi. Anybody know? Thanks for the info.

I can't say for sure, but I don't think banks exchange currencies for non-account holders. They all give almost the same rate from their ATM's, but the ATM fees vary. BBVA and Davivienda are the only ones I know of that don't charge ATM fees.

Read your post again. There is a difference between families and groups of friends and 1 lone female. That logically sets off alarms as drug mule or transported for sex. Especially if the girl does not have a job or even one that would pay her enough to be able to travel there.

I've done this before with a chic from Peru and the she was required to show 500 USD equivalent currency at Lima airport before allowed to bored plane. This is to show that they have enough to get there and back. Any one know if its the same for Colombians departing Colombia for mexico? Thanks!

Cancun is an truly international destination and there are many Colombian tourists and families who regularly visit Cancun area and that I have met there. About a year ago, my Colombian GF who is a pharmacist didn't have any problems getting on the plane but was given the third degree upon landing in Cancun 1) because we traveled separately 2) because hotel reservation was under my name only. She had to show her official medical ID card and her credit card and a copy of my passport before they let her through.

She will not have to show a specified amount to leave Colombia, but getting out of the airport in Mexico is hit or miss. Make sure she has proof that she has a lodging reservation. She should dress conservatively. She should list a legitimate occupation and be prepared to describe what she does in that occupation. If she arrives in sexy attire and tells them she doesn't know where she is staying because her friend is meeting her at the airport, you will probably not see her. She will be denied entry.

I went to the Dominican once with a Colombiana. She was dressed super sexy (super tight pants and her big surgically modified porn star tits practically hanging out). I didn't have any issue but I traveled with her. Immigration in DR didn't say a word to us. Just stamped us in. I also did Aruba with the same chica. Same deal. I traveled with her, connecting from Panama, and they just stamped us through.

I can see it would have been different if she went alone though.
