As a normal income guy, single, working a lot before a longer stay in Colombia; you enter a many time fully developed society, since you don't have to visit the parts that are not, and suddenly you can afford stuff on a daily basis that fills your every need; and girls are interested in you, and the cultures approve of her being it, and you of her!

Has anyone here been successful in opening a Colombian bank account, and if so how did you do it? I keep getting told that I need to have proof of income here in Colombia. I have read that you can open an account with your cedular extranjeria, passport, and proof of residency (utility bill or the like) but the proof of income in Colombia no can do. This was at Citi BTW. I wanted to open an account with them since I have a Citi account in the states but I am open to other banks if need be. Might have to try HSBC next.

Really only need the account to bring money in to buy a house. Otherwise I would just keep rocking the ATM like I've been doing for the last 4 years.

Surely there are some gringos here with Colombian bank accounts but no jobs?

I am planning to go to Colombia in the next few months. I will be going to Medellin for sure. I like to visit another city as well. Between Bogota, Cali and Cartagena, which one is better to visit and has a better nightlife. I may stay in the country for 10- 12 days. Any feedback in great.

I have been to all the major and some minor cities in CO. My vote for the second city would be CTG, especially if you are only going for a few days. If you have many days, Bogota would get up there but it lot easier to manage and get the best what the city has to offer in a smaller and more manageable city like CTG.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents allegedly had "sex parties" with prostitutes hired by local drug cartels overseas over a period of several years, according to a report released Thursday by the Justice Department's watchdog.

The report did not specify the country where the parties occurred, but a law enforcement official familiar with the matter identified it as Colombia.

Seven of the 10 DEA agents alleged to have participated in the gatherings — most of which took place at an agent's "quarters" leased by the USA Government — admitted to having attended the parties, the report found. The agents, some of whom had top-secret security clearances, received suspensions of two to 10 days.

Former police officers in Colombia also alleged that three DEA supervisory special agents were provided with money, expensive gifts and weapons from drug cartel members, according to the report.

"Although some of the DEA agents participating in these parties denied it, the information in the case file suggested they should have known the prostitutes in attendance were paid with cartel funds," according to the 131-page report by Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz.

The findings were part of a much broader investigation into the handling of allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct from fiscal 2009 to 2012 at federal law enforcement agencies — the DEA, the FBI, the USA Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Horowitz said the investigation was "significantly impacted and unnecessarily delayed" by repeated difficulties his office had in obtaining relevant information from the FBI and the DEA. When he did receive the information, he said, it "was still incomplete. ".

In a statement, a spokesman for the Justice Department said officials took the issues raised in the inspector general's report seriously and are "taking steps to implement policies and procedures to help prevent them from happening in the future. ".

Paraguay placed first out of 143 countries, with its people reporting the most positive emotions on a daily basis, according to the survey. Gallup researchers released the results for the United Nations' third annual International Day of Happiness today (March 20).

To gauge happiness levels around the world, researchers interviewed about 1,000 people in each country, either in person or over the phone. All of the participants were age 15 or older, and answered questions about how happy they felt the day before.

More than 70 percent of the respondents worldwide said they experienced enjoyment; smiled or laughed; felt well rested; and thought they were treated with respect, the poll found. What's more, half of the participants said they had learned or did something interesting the day before the interview, according to the poll.

Gallup researchers compiled a "positive experience index score" for each country based on the responses to these five questions. Overall, the world has an average index score of 71 out of 100, but all of the Latin American countries that ranked in the top 10 scored higher than that.

In a city of 8 plus million the odds are in your favor but always be aware. Area bars in Sante Fe are probably the most likely target but could happen anywhere. Never leave your drink unattended.
