Guys, thanks for coming back to me. I take no offense at all.

Thing is, I speak Spanish close to fluently! I've done my share of travel in South America and Cuba, and I know that Spanish is a must. I don't want to go crazy on my horn here, but I am saying it to add to the mystery: I am swimming in girls in all these others places. Regulars from the streets and discos. Hot young girls.

In Colombia? Thousands of girls looking at smiling, but not the young hotties. And if I approach looks a bit like they are afraid all the other people or friends around will think they are prepagos.

Spanish? Yes. Extensive travel experience in Latin America? Yes. Decent looking and young enough? Yes.

So I have next to know idea what gives. All I know is I fucked a fat girl with no less than three children last night, and that marked the record of the ugliest girl I have been with in Latin America.

    Speak Spanish?

I am attractive. Young, blond, blue eyes. I got a million looks and giggles on the streets and when I enter a bar. But I get nothing more. have now done Bogota, Ibagué and a week in Cali and apart from that one negrita in Cali (who looked hot with clothes on and not too good naked) have gotten nothing.

What's the deal here? I don't get it. I can sit at a table and exchange smiles with a beautiful 18 year old on another table and if I approach after 30 minutes of smiling she turns completely stiff and basically ignores me until I go away (usually hailing a taxi to go home to my apartment to jerk off instead)

In case it's not clear, I am talking about picking up non-pros. If I couldn't pick up a hooker I would be in serious trouble :-)

So any tips? What gives with these colombianas? I have done a shitload of countries and in many latin countries I have my calendar packed, sometimes 3-4 hot girls daily. I thought Colombia was heaven for women, but thourh there are a decent amount of good looking girls around, it seems more like hell.

It sucks. Especially since I have no less than 3 weeks left in Colombia (Medellin, Cartagena, Barranquilla). And I seriously feel like flying home to Europe or down to Brazil. This place is cold man. The weather AND the women. Or at least, that is my impression so far.

Was my BIG misunderstanding that I thought Colombia was gold because all you guys love the hookers? (I don't) or am I just misunderstanding how to approach and pick up regular girls here?

    Suerte.
Lets C. Young, good looking, blond hair, blue eyes. You are having no luck? The only answer is you are not able to talk to these beautiful creatures.

Please do not be offended but you are asking for advice and if what you say is true than something is really wrong with what is happening to you in Colombia. Many of us old timers would love to have your advantages. I wish you good luck in the future and maybe it is just a case of bad luck and the next day you could be swimming in fine Pussy.

One question. You say the weather is cold. I have never found BAQ, MDE, Cali and CTG cold, but mostly very warm except MDE which is just perfect.

Next you go in an receive the paperwork. They give you a check list of everything you need to do. Just follow the list and bingo you are in.

You have to have passport size photos, pay the bill at Banco de Colombia only certain banks accept the money(secret: go to the bank in Laureles next to Estadio, there is never a line) multiple copies of the documents you fill out and copies of your passport. Then you go back to DAS with all your copies and your payment receipt.

Then you have to wait at DAS for your turn, they give you a little "ficha" a poker chip with a number. The folks in DAS, there are only two clerks that deal with this, are always having a bad day. They were they only angry Colombians I ever met for 90 days in the country. Anyway they take all your paperwork, inspect your passport, take your fingerprints and photo, and then you have to come back in three days.

When you come back you don't have to wait very long at all they just take you in the back, hand stamp your passport, write on the stamp and you are on your way. One final caveat, when you get to the airport you have to pay an additional tax, not the regular exit tax but another one. It was a surprise American Air didn't know how to deal with it and it was a little scary at first, but you just have to be polite and pay the tax, I think it was 50 or 75K pesos.

It's an easy process if you follow the steps and recall it's Colombia during the steps.

    Chau,

    Jazz
    Mr. Jass,

Thanks for answering his question. I agree with what you said of the process except that on the check list I was given there was no mention that a money order was needed so when I tried to pay the fee in cash I was then told I needed a money order. This intailed another round trip taxi to a bank. All I can say is I wish I had your frame of mind in these kind of matters. For you to say this was an easy process, I would hate to see what you call a tough process. I was 6 days over my limit in Colombia and I will never deal with DAS again if I can avoid them. Like you said about the additional payment 74, 000 K at the airport after paying the 70, 100K at DAS to me was the final indignation. I go to Colombia to have fun, not be tortured and have to jump thru hoops.

The first question is do you speak spanish? If you do speak spanish than it has to be something to do with your personality or approach to the girls amigo because Colombianas are extremely friendly and enjoy hanging out with spanish speaking well mannered foreigners.

Are you doing more than just looking and smiling at them? Colombianas are accustomed to guys making the first move. It helps if you speak spanish. And if you don't. Then attempting to speak spanish with a dictionary will go a long way.

    Spirit Air

I paid the fee to join their $9 club. They offered me some workable flights so I planned a trip and itinerary around those flights.

When I try to purchase the tickets, the website will not proccess the transaction using one of my existing credit cards. The only way the transaction will proceed is if you choose to sign up for and use their "Free Spirit" credit card.

Now my itinerary is blown since the flights & fares I was trying to take advantage of expired and the website is still giving me the same problem, even with adjusted dates.

Customer help is non-existant. Their call center is offshore and can't help you with tech support for the website or $9 club fares AND they have noone to refer you too. All they can do is book flights with normal priced fares PLUS a booking fee for using the call center instead of booking online.

The help option on the website is also no help. I finally found the email address for their tech support and sent a private email describing my problem and requesting assistance. That was last night, 12 hours ago. I received an automated response email advising that they received my email and that it would be processed in the order in which it was received. Still waiting.

Any forum members have any experience or tips for dealing with this problem.

I'd heard they can be a ***** to deal with but this is horrendous. They offer a fare and flight but then make it impossible to purchase it.

    Thanks,

    Schwmm

They charged $1. 80 per pound, delivered to my door in Pereira, and 29% customs fees on declared value. A great value, I thought, except that my packages were oversized. For the two boxes combined I paid an additional $230 for oversize. The limits are 150cm length + width + depth, and 110 pounds. I still came out ahead of what it would have cost to check them on Delta, and Delta only accepts boxes checked as stand-by. If I had known the limits ahead of time, it would have been economical. I had 75 pounds and $360 of value. If it had been within size limits, it would have cost $270, about half of what it would have cost as excess luggage on Delta.

I feel secure in using the service because the contents are large objects of no immediate resale value. One box is a bust (statue), an onyx bowl and plate. The other box is 4 candle sticks and two statues. I was considering shipping a third footlocker as well, but if it contains small items, they might be more attractive to pilfering. And you can't put food or vitamins in unaccompianied baggage.

I tried to contact ServiEntrega, but basically was reminded why the Third World is the Turd Wurld.

I'll report on my receipt of what I shipped.

    Minetero:

Good to hear you got your stuff there. I know what a hassle and sometimes stressful that can B.

For the record and as info to the board; I shipped parcels several times with two small time operators that can do it for a fraction of the price that Avianca, Fedex, UPS, US Postal Service or any other big name carrier can do it.

One is Medrano Express www.medranoexpress.com and the other, I can't recall the name right now.

They both delivered to the door in Colombia, took about 6-7 days, and had drop off points at Tienda Latinas in my area. You drop your parcel off at your local tienda that contracts with one of these services and they have pick-ups 2 or 3 days a week. They consolidate the parcels at their central facility and put them on a plane in Miami.

Cost $50 or less per normal sized parcel and deliver to the door in Colombia and other countries in LA. Always came through, never had a problem, and they offer insurance if you want it.

Check around at your local Tienda Latinas. BTW, these are good places to buy calling cards too and even run into a hot latina now and then.

    All the best, Schwmm

    Not Cali

Stay away from Cali just my advise. The sicarios just opened a new office in la sexta and are just looking for the quick buck. Goto Medellin more gringo friendly and the quality of girls is better.
