Ah well, to complicate things even further :-) I am Swedish living in England. Swedish national. 15 years age of consent there. Not that I am interested in girls that age, but it should be possible to ask a pure law question (and an important one for men who travel like we do at that!) on these forums without being asked not to. I am clearly not asking for tips on how to find under 18 prepagos or anything like that.

Thanks for the answers although I have to say I am still confused.

Where and how would you recommend I go about having the best experience money can buy in Colombia? Specifically, what hotel/apartments should I consider? Any upscale-escort services I should be aware of? Is there yet another way to contact English-speaking model-quality women? Any particular city that would have exceptional accommodations? In essence, if money were no object, describe what you would lay-out for yourselves on your next trip to Colombia.

You do not mention if you have any Spanish speaking ablity. No matter what if you have money to burn then go to CTG. Get a nice apartment near the beach and LDV. Hang out at LDV after 11PM and if the girls don't suit you there then take a short taxi ride to the Old City and go to Isis. The girls there are awesome but expensive. If I had plenty of money that is what I would do.

    Stop it now

Find somewhere else to discuss regular girls. Further discussion like this, however "innocent" WILL bring the feminazis and LE.

    Stop it. Period.

I am from England. Luckily not under U.S laws anywhere in the world.

It's not about just finding a hole. Easy to say there are plenty of 18 or 25 year olds. Sure. But if the girl I am interested in is indeed 17 then I can't just take the next in line who is 22 - just because she is 22.

I did search first, found no facts, but plenty of answers like the ones below. Thanks for those, but no clear legal answer yet.

So interested in pure law. What is the legal age of consent IN COLOMBIA for sex without pay?

They were clearly to be had, but I chickened out because I just don't know the law on age. Been to Cuba a couple of times and there it's like the crime of the century to be with a girl under 18.

So I read the age of consent is 14 in Colombia, but does that go for foreigners as well?

We are heading down again in a few weeks, so basically would just like to know if we can hang out (and more) with these two girls without breaking any laws.

What I (think I) understand is that 18 is minimum age for prostitution, but keep in mind we are not looking for this.
It's been covered many times. I believe most countries say it's the age of consent in your home country. To be on the safe side, stick to 18 and above. Worse thing is to be arrested in a foreign country.

if you are coming fron the u. s stay away from **** girls. it may be legal there, i don't remember because i don't want them, but you can be prosecuted in the usa for the little deed. no need to take a chance. eighteen and up only.

Lets see two guys aged 22 and 24. There are thousands of girls dying to hang with you at least 18 years old. Why look for possible trouble? You are right IMHO about the age laws, but the 14 age is mostly considered for Colombians not Gringo's. Also forget for a minute the law and think about possible trouble with the familys of these girls. That could be far worse than a law hassle.

detroit is on the whole more dangerous than just about anywhere in colombia, but the difference is in detroit there are really safe areas and really fucked up areas and everybody knows where they are. in colombian cities, crime is a lot more democratic. it can hit you in the best of surroundings.
a colombiana friend from pasto takes the bus up to cali from time to time. i was thinking to travel with her next time (a couple weeks from now, actually) stopping over in popayan, then on to pasto. haven't heard anything about this being unsafe until your story, which obviously gives reason to pause.

    Old News

If guys bothered to do any research before coming to Colombia, they'd know this is a very very old scam (one of many I should add) and goes back 25 years or more.

    Get real.

    Don't carry any money

    Don't carry a passport

Don't talk to any stranger that approaches you

    Keep walking.

OR. Ask to see their ID

Tell them you live in Medellin and lets to to a Police station of your own choice.

Pretend to make a call to a Colombian friend who is coming to help you.

Last resort. Start shouting POLICIA and screaming. That always works

This has happened to me. They will accept pesos Luckily I didn't have too much on me.

This scam ramps up so slowly so by the time alarm bells start ringing in your head you're already in danger. I agree about the potential for this to turn violent, so I did what I was told and got out as soon as I could.

What *I* would do next time this happens would be to tell him his I'd card is fake and walk off. If he persists, then insist he calls a uniformed patrol. Go into a large store if necessary and ask them to call 112 to report a fake cop.

I'm thinking this would cya if it turned out is *was* a real one. Whatever you do don't go off the populated area with them.

Once the old man get a reply to make understand he is talking to a tourist, the "other" guy comes into action. Showing a false Police ID to you and the old man, and asks you and the old man to follow him for a police interrogation. The "other" guy is well dressed with a tie and everything, but in civil clothings. Presenting himself as an undercover agent to protect tourists and people against drug abuse and sales of drugs on the street. Once you follow him (you and the old guy), there will be explained, the police interrogation in the police station will take 2 upto 3 hours, and "if" you like, you can handle the interrogation a block (or something) away from the "fake" police station to win time. You are demanded to show your passport, open your bag (or anything you carry with you) for a check up. They take notice of your passport number, name, want your home address (a complete set up to make it look realistic). Others are into the game as well, once you make allegations you do not belief him. Same "gogo" with men having false police ID's. They take your passport and move on so you cannot see him anymore, return after a few minutes and tel you the station now is looking for information about your passport meanwhile they ask you how much money you have with you. Want you to show the money. They also ask the old man to do the same (who is standing next to you). As an example the old man gives a bunch of US dollars to the fake Police officer. He looks at the dollars and tells the old man, he will return in a few minutes with his money. And so he does. (it is to verify the serial numbers of the dollar bills). Next are YOU! You will do, as the old man (believe me! They are "VERY" convincing). Once you counted your money in front of them, they will take over the money (as they did with the old man, to check the numbers on the bills), then you can start to panic, but it is too late! He turns away from you (so you see his back and made a few passes away from you), you ask him to come back, because you do not longer trust the situation. But in the meantime they will have taken out money from your bundle you gave to him. (and not the outside bills, but from within the "inside"). He will return, to show trust in you! Hands over to you your money again. You will put away your money "immediately" without counting it, because you know, its not safe to show off your money on the street like that. He will tell you, that you "seem" ok, and will bring you back to the spot where you have been first contacted. Meanwhile telling you stories how dangerous it can be and to be alert for anything. You will get the hell out of there, because you feel very bad. Once returned to your hotel, and checking your money you WILL see, there is a bunch missing!

Contacting the Police afterwards, does not make a lot of sense. They are aware of this "new" treat, but cannot do a lot. These guys work very "efficient", "quickly on scene somewhere in the city", and vanish as quickly as they come into an area, to return to another aera the next day. Probably they only work for about 30 up to 60 minutes maximum, so they will not get caught.

    BEWARE!

My advice: walk with a minimum of foreign money into this area. They do not seem to be interested in Colombian Pesos (I had 400. 000 Pesos on me and did not take away any bill. But search and take Dollars and Euro.

Stay calm, It is possible they have firearms, knives or something else with them.

When they talk about the police station they want to bring you, DO NOT follow them. Their story "may" alter, but be sure, there is NO police station, where they want to bring you. Ask them IMMEDIATELY to call a patrol car to bring you to this "so called" police station (and not an "ordinary" taxi or car) got it?

Remain in PUBLIC and on the STREET, do not go with them into a closed place away from the crowd. So you are at ANY moment surrounded by "other" people.

Stick on your opinion: YOU WANT an official investigator, in official police clothes and an official police car to bring you to the Police station! Be sure, they will LOOSE the game when you stick to this!

If possible, once you are in Bogota, put in your cell phone the official number of a police station, and or tourist police office. CAll them the moment you run into these guys, when they don't stop to bug you.

Only carry with you what will get you through the day. In addition, have 2 stacks of money. 1 hidden and one small stack in your front pockets (not too small that they'll want to shake your pockets for more).
Its not as dicey when they let you make contact to the "real" police, That's why it is better to have these numbers (as mentioned in my text) IN your cell phone. Real police will NOT bother you want to call tourist police. As they understand you are comitted to your own safety. And "if" they bother. Remain in PUBLIC on the STREET. Sooner or later, they will let you go, as their game won't work.. Also when it "would" be real police. They know, they cannot touch you with their game. Giving in to them = loosing. Sticking to your correct intentions and remaining determined is your best shot.

I "do" agree about your 2 stacks option of money. Though the best is to keep a daily volume and no more in your pockets or any place you feel comfortable with. Keep the rest in a safe place in your hotel. A safe deposit box or even under the TV set (cleaning women don't move a TV set to clean your room. It's too heavy for them anyway)
