I was in northern Colombia for work last week and had just a few free hours to indulge. On a Tuesday afternoon went to Zero Stress. I've had good luck there in the past and it was within walking distance to my hotel. About 10 girls working, and 5 of those were all doable by my standards. Had a brief chat with my two favorites, Rubi and Monica, both about 20 and both very cute in different ways. Though it's usually not my style, I went for a trio. For 150 K for the hour, I couldn't pass up the opportunity, and what I was also looking for was to get some numbers and hopefully repeat with one of them at the end of my 11-day work stint. Rubi had the face and eyes of a young Selma Hayek as well as her tits. She was a little on the inexperienced side but great with eye contact which made her unusually sexy. Monica was more outgoing, super cute, had an awesome tight body, and was an all around great performer. Had a great time with the two of them and got both their numbers. I kept in touch with Monica via whatsapp, and 11 days later, she came to my hotel on my last night in BAQ. Fantastic session and lots of fun. I'm in Santa Marta and I really like it. Fun to walk around during the day, plenty of curvy mamma's around, and some of the chicas in Bananas are definitely my type. If I like it here, will I like Barranquilla? I've heard it's a very busy city and dangerous at night. I don't really care about that, as long as its safe enough to get taxis at night to good clubs. Is it? What clubs have the most curvy types, and would be safe enough to go there? I speak pretty good Spanish and haven't had any problems so far. I'm enjoying it here, would it be worth my while to stop off in Barranquilla? Thanks if you can let me know guys.

People are similar up and down the coast. They are called costeos.

To find out where the hotels are, look at booking.com. To find out where the casas and clubs are, look at WorldTraveler69's BQ map.

But in summary: clubs are downdown (centro), calle 45 and below. Casas are all over midtown, calles 45 to 76. They are spread out, but you can walk from one to the next. Hotels are everywhere but international hotels (why?) are uptown, calle 76+. If you want a memorable hotel midtown, check out Hotel El Prado, or Hotel Majestic.

I don't know what you are like so I don't know how safe you will be in a nightclub. Anyway, safe is never a black and white concept but shades of grey. You have to know yourself and how comfortable you feel in a Colombian strip club. You won't be the first non-local in Siglo XI and the biggest danger will probably be getting short-changed by the waiter.

I suggest you go and then tell us how safe you find these places. Don't worry, if you end up unable to report I'll post a link to the newspaper article about you, the mutilated dead foreigner who foolishly went to the wrong club. Up to you, you can worry and skip, or you can put on your big-boy-pants and go.

If you don't want to get in at the deep end (centro), there are two clubs with girls midtown: La Hoja and Pley Club, both near Romelio Stadium, calle 74.

Forget about a beach in Barranquilla, if you get a hotel room on a high enough floor you may be able to see the sea. And even the new riverfront is in the middle of nowhere. The best beaches are in Santa Marta.

Thanks again for your advice. Thankfully, I made it back home in one piece. In fact I didn't really have any security issues at all, so you won't be reading about me in any newspaper articles any time soon anyway! As it happens, I was so relaxed in Santa Marta, that I didn't have time to stop in Barranquilla on my way to Cartagena for my last 4 nights. I'll be back in a couple of months and will try to do some mongering in Barranquilla then.

Mi Discoteca Bar Club seems to be a generic name. Or maybe it's the same owner or a franchise or who knows. Anyway, different place, same name above the door.

As I've said before, someone needs to go to all the bar clubs and give recommendations or say if any should be struck off the map.

Arcangel, thanks a lot for your advice. Are the people similar in their behavior / friendliness to Santa Marta? Is it safe for a non-local like me to go to a nightclub like Siglo alone? I'm talking about the clubs in this case, not the taxi's. What about the Casa's, are they located close to each other in the same neighborhood, or spread out? Are they near any big chain hotels? Is there a decent beachfront area you can walk around like here in Santa Marta? Sorry for all the questions!

I'm not into curvy mamas or night clubs so who am I to give you advice. But there are plenty of both, so come and find out how you like it.

This forum needs someone to check out all the clubs on the Barranquilla map and report back. This could be your calling.

The city is no more dangerous than elsewhere. I feel safer here than in Bogota and more relaxed, too. People are more laid back while working to make a living. They're more friendly than elsewhere in Colombia, if that's even possible. You speak spanish, you'll be fine.

You may want to use EasyTaxi app for convenience and safety, it keeps a record of your trip like uber. I once read about guys getting into a taxi waiting at a strip club which took them away to get robbed. That could equally happen elsewhere. I've never had an issue with a taxi.

Same thing happened to me with the waiters. They will avoid you like the plague. And you are not going to get much better than you saw at that club regarding the women. And African Caribbean looking women are not plentiful in Barranquilla in my experience. There girls in the region do tend to be darker. You would be better off in Cartagena or Cali. Also, I would recommend hitting up some of the casas mentioned in the forum. I would say Arcángel is the resident monger there. He gives great info and you can look up world travelers maps.

Paid a visit to Siglo XXI yesterday around 10 pm. I forgot what a huge place it is. Not many customers when I went in but did fill up a bit before I left soon after 12.

I wasn't really impressed. To start with after tipping my waiter after the first round, every drink I bought afterwards was an effort to get my change. Maybe he thought I was stupid or drunk but at one stage he gave me 2 x 10 k instead of 2 x20 k in cgange from a 50. No apology when I pointed out the error, just grudgingly handed over another 20. The waiter I had last year recognized me and he was great so if I go again will try and sit at one of his tables.

Regarding the girls / women. There were plenty in attendance but most were overweight and / or silicone enhanced. There were a few slimmer ones but nothing that really appealed. I do quite like it that the girls don't tend to approach you and only had to tell one I wasn't interested. I am quite partial to Afro-Caribbean girls but there were only 3 and all pretty fat.

I only saw 2 strippers, neither of which were that great and the first one was just starting a second turn when I left.

I might give it another go be on Saturday if I am in the mood.

Pley Club was a rip off last year but I might poke my head in there again to see if it has improved.
