I don't know why I am responding to this, but yes I was in Ukraine in Aug and Nov, Colombia Nov and Feb, and going to Colombia again in March for a weekend during Semana Santa. Bangkok/HongKong/Macau trip is in 2 weeks.

I also do frequent weekend trips to Miami. Cuba is undecided at the moment.

There is no magic. In 8 months it's not even that much travel. I have 5 weeks of vacation + banking holidays, and while I don't know what your definition of "wealthy" is I am certain that our income levels are not the same.

My Baq report is right below your yours, and I reported on Ctg and Europe back in Nov.

The purpose your original post and you PM is questionable, it is borderline antagonistic and it brings no value to other members. My having to respond to you brings no value either. Looking back through your previous posts it looks like you are or are going to be in Colombia, Philippines, Thailand, Cuba, and in Europe all about the same time period more or less. You must be magic, be extremely wealthy, or both. Congratulations to you!

I just received your pm stating you are on your way to Hong Kong and Macua as well as Thailand and the Philippines this month. You really must be going to have some short stays since you are also going to Cuba and Europe according to your prior posts.

Are you Nibu by chance? ;)

Recently returned from Barranquilla festival held in February 2008, here is a quick report.

The hotel. We got a last minute reservation at Vall Claire Suites Hotel, their website is http://vallclairesuiteshotel.com

The place is a total dump. Ugly outdated rooms with undersized beds and no TVs. The TV in the living room is a 16 inch box from the 60's. Has a kitchenette, no microwave, and no utensils. You won't want to cook in it. You won't want to bring a girl in it. The place can't hold candle to Motel6. The music blasting from El Prado was nearly unbearable. Stay away. There must be better options.

The girls. There are some cute girls on occasion, but it's nothing like Medellin or even Bogota. The two places for working girls we visited are Pasarella and Lucitania (sp??) both had dogs working there two nights we visited. There is no comparison to LDV, Giro Matto, etc in Cartagena. None. The happening disco is Seven, but we didn't see any prepagos either.

The food. Great place right next to the stadium, called Frutas Los Compadres or something. Basically a large food stand with all kinds of empenadas including empenadas made of potatos backed with meats and cheese inside. Fresh juices. The highlight of my trip, tasty stuff!

Overall, very few foreigners, compared to Cartagena or Medellin or Bogota. People are very friendly. You can certainly have a good time with the girls there for lengthy stays, but the city is a total dump, dirty, ugly, industrial almost, marginal food, hot, and no beach, and absolutely nothing to do during the day! This is my 2 cents, not very encouraging, but I hope it will help somebody planning a visit to Barranquilla.

Was in BAQ a couple of weeks ago for 6 days and dealt with Pro's and Non. Had a ball. Worked out at gym at Exito, ate like crazy, kinda blended in. Met a few gals who are non-pros but ready to put out on another trip. I would hang with regular chicas during the day (many worked so often it was lunch dates getting to know them) went to Froggleggs, Barullo and 7 in the late evening but didn't score (girls come in groups and they'll dance and exchange info, but you have to be REAL special to score right away IMHO) and then hit Lusitanias late night. Had 4 girls all different types but found that a little kindness and laidback attitude enhances the sex when it's time (because you can pay for some sorry sex if you're an Arsehole) All girls did CBJ and FS with great energy and enthusiasm, Drunk girl did BBBJ but it was mediocre. I think colombian pros need to know you better (strange as it sounds) to go to different levels with you as I was offered basically free sex if I came back again. (who knows if it's true I'm not disillusioned) I Just figured I'd post what the talent is like in Lusitanias. Susana (rubia) and Laura (morena) were totally cool. And I saw Susana a couple more times solo. The other girl is Kelly and she was WAY TOO DRUNK but while still coherent gave good service. Had another girl with braces. Totally gorgeous but I didn't realize she had fake boobs and (check the name) for me it's a No-No. Cheers!

The challenge is finding reasonable lodging. I'm not really worried. It's not very difficult, just frustrating. I've gotten apartments and hotels a week before and during Carnaval at reasonable prices ($50-60/nite) in areas walking distance from much of the festivities. Hot water, a/c, clean, g/f, internet, secure, etc.

We have been unsuccessful in trying to get an accommodation for 4 people for 4 nights starting Feb 1st, the carnival week. Hotels are also booked, and we prefer an apartment anyway. You think it is ok to just show up with no reservation at all and try to find one on arrival? If anyone has a reliable source in BAQ please PM me. We have rented from Mery and Juan in Cartagena numerous times.

From Monday through most Thursdays, nightlife generally sucks throughout Colombia. BAQ is no different. Cartagena would be a better bet during those days as most of the bars and discos are closed in BAQ, leaving you few choices. Friday and Saturday are your main party nights in BAQ. Make the most of them.

Hotel bars like Dann BAQ, Barranquilla Plaza, The Windsor, and even Hotel Prado should at least have a pulse (meaning a few people around) during the week. Also hit up the Casa/Plaza de la Cerveza franchises around town. Even Henry's bar. There'll be chicks around. Prepagos will make themselves known.

Then there are the hooker spots that I listed in the previous response.

There will be some pre-Carnaval festivites during the weekend you'll be there. I can't say whether people will be hitting the bars and discos that weekend, or partying with the family. The following weekend is the real Carnaval kickoff party, La Guacherna. HUGE PARTY all over town. Plenty of people around and about. People gear up for that. I'm sure the bars and discos will have a healthy showing.

I will warn you now, as has been done on this board before, Barranquilla is a primarily Spanish only town. English speakers are very rare here. Be prepared. Your experience in BAQ (moreso than other cities) increases tremendously with Spanish. There is a lot of fun to be had. Barranquilleras are full rumbearas. However if you can't communicate, you miss out and/or will be the killjoy. But...there's always Cartagena 90 minutes away.

Hoof, thanks for your response, my friends and I appreciate it. Looks like we have a conflict with the dates in February (actual carnival), and the dates that will work for all of us are Jan 17-22 (pre-carnavales), these include Sun and Mon. You mentioned in your earlier post best looking hookers and prepagas returning to BAQ mid-Jan, do you think the night life will be good during the week we are planning to go, or is it way better during the actual carnival? Sunday and Monday nights are particulary of concern.

Personally, I prefer to avoid large gatherings on the streets - after seeing all the barrio kids in Cartagena la reinada week.
