Yeah, there'll be all kinds of people in BAQ for Carnaval, even hookers there to capitalize on the quantity. Most from other cities.

The challenge is finding reasonable lodging. I'm not really worried. It's not very difficult, just frustrating. I've gotten apartments and hotels a week before and during Carnaval at reasonable prices ($50-60/nite) in areas walking distance from much of the festivities. Hot water, a/c, clean, g/f, internet, secure, etc.

I'd posted a pic or two of a chica and her cousin who I did last Carnaval from one of the hooker spots. They were only there in BAQ for a month before headed back to Panama. Both were 8+ on anyone's scale. I still have my friends there talking about them. With Spanish, didn't cost me very much at all for both. TLN for under $100 in total for both. Asi es Colombia.

For the best looking hookers, check out Lusitania. Pricey, but nice lineup of talent. Also check out Pasarela Show. Juernes is also an option during Carnaval, as we found out last year.

The afterhour spot in BAQ is La Arenosa, on Cra 43 near Cll 74. Shady spot, shady characters, shady actions, not for the weak of heart, nor Spanish challenged. I've been there when gunshots rang out outside, but there are hookers/prepagos there, as well as regular couples. I stayed. Some other folks have had issues.

As to normal spots where prepagos may be available, there are normal clubs up north like Seven (up north next to the only bowling alley in BAQ), VC (in Villa Country mall), The Underground (in Hotel Windsor), Barulo, Frogles, etc.

IF your Spanish is up to snuff and you don't mind being in questionable areas, (where no one will help you if trouble popped up because they can't understand you), then check out Casa de la Cerveza on Murillo (approx. calle 20), Alcatraz, Maria Mulata, and the bars down there.

There are more, but this should get you started.

Unfortunately, no. Even the locations open at night are not up to the standards of Medellin and Cali.

Barranquilla is all about prepagos and novias. If you want *****houses and strip clubs, then try Medellin or Cali.

As it's now the holiday season, you also won't see the best-looking hookers, just the most desperate. The better looking ones have already made their money and are home with their families for the holidays. They'll be back mid-January to gear up for Carnaval.

I always enjoy your reports. Have been to CTG 6 times, never to Baq yet. Please confirm I understood you correctly that February Carnival is a good time to be there.

I am a rather big fan of Cartagena's club Electra and the former Giro Matto. Great options for prepagas should you need them towards the end of the night when regular options ran out. Not a big fan of LDV type places. What is the situation like with prepagas in Baq? Any places similar to the ones mentioned above?

That is, yes they are pretty EZ to meet, and yes you should be able to shag within a few dates. Definitely agree with another poster that making no effort at sex on the first date can reap benefits down the road.

Not sure how much time you were planning to spend there, but despite my good experience I would still take Medellin over quilla or any other Colombian city. Hands down.

As Hoof has pointed out. You stayed in a very undesirable area. Thus your poor impression of Barranquilla. Though quite frankly, you are correct Barranquilla no es un paradiso.

As for the bars at Murillo y Calle 27, they are open in the evenings. Not daytime (don; t go too late either as they close around 1am on weeknights). If you don't like loud music than you didn't miss anything. I actually flat out love the loud music and wildness that occurs in these places. Don't get me wrong, when I am living in Barranquilla I go about once a month, maybe 2 times in a month maximum. But when I do go, I always have a ball. As for the chicas, you really have to take your time on finding that diamond in the rough.

You can find a lot of those chicas that work in those bars at Casa de Cerveza before they open up. Casa de Cerveza isn't 24 hours a day but I think it closes around 5am and then opens around 10am, so it is pretty much 24 hours a day. Assuming the hours have not changed. I have not been to Casa de Cerveza in over a year.

I recently spent 24 hrs. in this city. Barranquilla must be the ugliest city with the least attractions of any in Colombia. The Parque Bolivar is a concrete pad with no shade, although there is a new park being constructed a block away. I know there are tons of hot chicas here, but i found my head turning to look at chicas on the street a lot less here than in Medellín.

I stayed at the Hotel Colonial In at Calle 42 43-131. Rooms are 25,000 without AC or 35,000 with AC. The reception told me there was no charge to bring in a chica assuming she didn't stay the whole night.

There are tons of "tabernas" in this area, which appear to be discotecas from the outside. i never asked anyone directly what they were, but my impression is that they're couples-only establishments where they can drink, dance, and go to a room in the back if they so chose. Perhaps the Barranquilla experts can address this.

Judging by reports on this site, the casas seemed to be out of my price range. I passed by the area of Avenida Murillo at Calle 27 a few times during the day. None of the 5 "night clubs" i noticed were open nor did there appear to be working chicas anywhere.

The only night club i found open during the day was "La Dorada", which i believe is on Carrera 45 or 46 between Calle 42 or 41, directly across from a service station. There were only 2 chicas, none of which piqued my interest. Aguilas cost 1,600 each.

I returned to Avenida Murillo around 8 pm. I went in 2 clubs and and still found nothing to my liking. The music is loud in these clubs, even by Colombian standards.

I don't think security is a big issue in this area, though my opinion probably counts for little since i've seen few areas in colombia that i thought were overly dangerous. This area is very well lit, partly due to the flood lights from the nearby Vivero supermarket. Also, Avenida Murillo is the main drag in this part of the city- it's not as if you're on a dark side street.

My 3rd stop, on Avenida Murillo directly across from the Vivero supermarket, had a few attractive chicas. After having 18 year old Paola grind in my lap for a few songs, we went upstairs for 35 minutes for the paltry sum of 40,000. including the room. She attributes her Asian features to her Turkish grandparents, which makes sense in a city with a sizeable Middle Eastern population. Paola seemed eager to come to my hotel later, but alas, my time in BAQ was coming to an end...

Not sure what your reasons were, but you stayed in Centro, a very ugly part of the city and sometimes pretty dangerous. Not too advisable staying down there, esp. when making a judgment about a Colombian city. There's nothing redeeming about staying down there, or even mongering down there, but the lower cost. And in this sense, quality does follows cost, as you found out. Low cost, low quality.

As many people have stated, the area from the airport to Centro is an ugly ride. It's the south of the city. Same can be said for the southside of many larger cities in Colombia. Ever been to south parts of Bogota, Cali, or Cartagena? Everyone sees the ugly ass barrios on the hills in Medellin, but overlook them as well. Once you clear Centro in BAQ, you'll see a much more vibrant, modern and clean city.

Next time, you should go a bit further north, east or west, to get a better sense of the city. Centro sucks ass.

If you're still there, go check out Portales del Prado, Villa Country, or Buena Vista mall, even Calle 72 to get a better sense of the chicas around. Just go to any mall as chicas are doing their holiday shopping, with all the discounts being offered. The universities are out for break, therefore you won't be seeing those chicas out around those areas either. Check out the normal bars on 84, even down further on Murillo. Casa de la Cerveza or Alcatraz.

Even the better normal bars up north will probably be empty until the weekend and NYE. Same can be said in most parts of Colombia during this time.

I've driven by them and walked by them, and never had a 2nd thought of stopping in them, and I like hole-in-the-walls. I'm sure that you might find a diamond in the rough every now and then, but when I travel, I have more money than time. In some of those places, I'd wonder if there's even running water, much less a clean sheet to get a bj on. I don't need that added headache.

Take a cab from Centro to Lusitania or Pasarela Show (5.000 peso taxi ride). Pricier, but much better talent. You can even talk down the street from Pasarela to Juernes. These are all night places.

From everything I've heard and read from others though, and from the vibe I've gotten from girls on the street, I would say a big yes. That is, yes they are pretty EZ to meet, and yes you should be able to shag within a few dates. Definitely agree with another poster that making no effort at sex on the first date can reap benefits down the road.

The only danger I know of on Baranquilla would be your general urban crime if you are hanging out in a bad neighborhood at night, that sort of thing.

Not sure how much time you were planning to spend there, but despite my good experience I would still take Medellin over quilla or any other Colombian city. Hands down.

Besides the girl, I have to say Baranquilla is not the most exciting city in Colombia, putting it generously. The people are really nice, none of the annoying shit you get from the touts in Cartagena, but there isn't fuck all to do in the city during the day. The pace of life is also so incredibly slow on the coast it gets on my east coast nerves, but that's my problem.

Hi There,

Just like to add my voice to the general approval of Barrenquilla. I haven't been here since 1998 but the place has improved out of site and the girls wow just as nine years ago you get a broken neck from the many 9+ girls in the shopping centres etc. I checked out the girl scene last week and can only say that the advice and reports on the various bars has been right on the money. I was amazed at the quality of the girls in Lusatania and not disappointed with Freddies or Juernes. I was secretly hoping to bump into a great girl I knew from 1998 called Alexandria who worked in the original Zona Rosa but I guess that was to much to expect. Still a good place to find girls you would normally only see in magazines. I have another 2-3 weeks here so will write of any exceptional places I discover. Thanks to the previous reports on this site I didn't waste anytime hitting the right spots.
