Posts: 12I was wondering does anyone know the requirements to get the Colombian residency. How much money do you need to invest or is there some way to get it without getting married or investing.

Olga & Shirley are attractive. I am in favor of posting some, with limitations because of bandwidth, scenery or tourist photos in addition to the women. These photos provide excellent incite for potential visitors what can be expected while they contemplate a trip.
Prado looks like a cosy hotel. What do they charge?. Do they have a website? Thanks.

PS: I do not like if people truy to sell here info about hookers. This board should be FREE. We are here to help eachother. No to get $$$$ for selling/buying (probably useless??) information.
Use your common sense and LEARN spanish For God's Sake!
OOO and PLEASEEEEE do never ever get "tough"with the cops in Colombia! This advise is free for anybody.

Nice to see someone that takes good photos. That is not as common as one would wish it to be.
Thank gents for shining sunlight on moldy advice.

Posts: 59When I used to go to Barranquilla, I used to stay at the Prado always. It's kind of old school, and not super cheap, but it's so fucking hot down there that the pool makes it worth it.
The doorman at night will hook you up with hookers for a very nominal tip.
Here is a pic of the pool.

Posts: 383I am sorry guys, all I wanted was to save you some trouble, not PUT YOU IN A POSITION TO LOOSE YOUR PASSPORT. We had two experiences where cops did not accept the photocopy and wanted to take us to the station with the American guy detained, while I travel back to BQ , get in his safe, get his passport and come back to get him, and as of all you know that was not possible, so that is why I posted what I posted.
But again some of you have been lucky so good for you. Use your common sense, but if you get hassled, don`t tell me I did not warn you. I am closing my case.
Peter Solano.

Posts: 353Sorry Solo, guess Peter Solano's gonna have to tell me to F-off. But BS needs to be called. Advice is great, but when it's the wrong advice???? I have nothing to gain from this, I'm not a vendor.
This dude is telling people to carry their passports around? In NO foreign country is that sound advice. Your passport should be locked away in your hotel room safe, until you are leaving.
A photocopy (notarized or not) and some other form of ID is sufficient. I've never encountered any further questioning from police (military or local) after showing them that. To put people in the position to frivilously risk losing their passport, is extremely bad advice.
Getting tough with the police? Yeah, man, whatever!!! I prefer to enjoy my vacation, headache-free. Except for self-inflicted hangovers. YMMV!
I'm sure there are asshole cops around. Ignore them and just produce your documents. Anything further, plead ignorance.
Been stopped a few times on the trip from CTG to BAQ. Hired a minivan service for the ride, paid 25.000 COP per person. Filled out the passenger manifest for the driver, passport number and country included. Never had a further problem. Driver spoke directly to police. All along the drive, our driver radioed in our locations by the km-markers.
Got stopped on another trip, and was asked to step out of the van. Patted down. Asked to show my ID, I showed my PHOTOCOPY of my passport. Even asked to show how much money I had on me, over 300.000 COP, not a problem further. They checked the van, we went on our way. No hassle, just doing their jobs.
I sincerely doubt that these are uncommon experiences between CTG & BAQ.
I've heard the route is safe at night, it seemed like it would be, but I wouldn't test it. To me, it's not worth it. Plenty of fun to be had in BAQ at night, as well as in CTG at night. Stay where you are and leave out in the morning.

Please elaborate your statement about getting "tough".
I am also interested in your recipe. We gringos can benefit from your knowledge and experience.
I showed a photocopy of my passport a total of 5 times while in-country a total of 3 weeks with absolutely no consequences.

Are you BS-ing me???????????
How in earth's name do YOU want to get "TOUGH" with the police in Colombia????
I guess you just slipped them a 20 $ bancnote in both their hands?? (=40 bucks down the drain...)
Maybe that is what you mean with "getting tough"....
LOL

Mr. Solano, from experience, says:
" they gave us a hassle with a photocopy and I had to get tough with the Police."
Also, he states, from what he's heard:
"don`t ever loose your it, I have heard it takes over a month to get a replacement, you can`t go back home without it ..."
So, you, the tourist, decide using your common sense.
I go with photocopy, driver's licence and lots of comments about how great Colombia is and how safe I feel thanks to them.
