Hey why'all I'm in need of a vacation ASAP. Work is killer.

I was plannng on revisiting Tijuana or Cartagena but I hear too much about price gouging and buzz killingtons lately so I'm open to new place like Bogota or Medellin. Do you guys have any preference of the 2? I've been reading the last few weeks and it seems pretty even. The thing that is convincing me is the lower prices and Colombian women.

I would usually aim for an airbnb in a nice centralized location. Is there one region (Bogota or Medellin) that is better situated without having to do Uber or taxi. I watched some videos but they only tell so much.

Want to go back to Tijuana bc all the fun is centralized and same for CTG bc I know it but I want to try new things. Flights surprisingly are similar in price so it's not a huge difference in getting there for me at least.

Anything helps tia.

They are both large cities. Bogota greater metropolitan area over 14 million and Medellin around 5 million. Don't kill me on these numbers. Just going by memory and too lazy at the moment to look them up. The point being there are not areas where you would not be taking transportation. At least to cover the various sorts of places.

I do enjoy the party scene so I'll be aiming to do the weekends mostly in that case but will probably pop my head in earlier midweek too, just to get the lay of the land. 1. Yes, you can go to the clubs at those times but ultimately I think you'll walk away disappointed and probably disgruntled about your visit. To give you an example when I went the first 2 times to Bogota I went sometimes between 4-6 pm. I was sometimes only 1 of 4-5 guys with 4-6 girls max in some places. If you can swing it and do something like 7/8-10 pm you'd have a better time. Having said that, if those early hours are the only times you can go then you may find that even though there are fewer girls and it's not really a club atmosphere one of the girls may be your type. But you also run the risk of walking in and there potentially being absolutely no one. No worries though as you just walk out. First time I did that I felt awkward but now it's happened a few times it doesn't bother me anymore. My first night here and I accidentally walked into Club Dubai at about 8 pm because I thought I was walking into paisas. Dubai is usually not busy anyways but Walk in and it's this small room with 1 girl sitting at the bar on her phone and no customers. I turn around to leave and the guy tries to convince me to stay but ultimately I leave. As long as you knew that up front then hopefully you shouldn't be disappointed if the pickings of girls in the clubs are slim. A mesero from the street will always follow you in except sometimes at Fiebre when you may end up ordering at the bar so just make sure you have 10 and 20 mil notes as a poker and water are 8-10 k. Usually by the time I finished the drink I had an idea of what girls were there and if that club was going to be a good one for the night. Every club seems to have their night. Antones was great for me on Friday whereas the next night it wasn't and fiebre and Venus were better. Also many of the girls will go back and forth between clubs so you may see a girl from Venus in paisas or a girl from Antones in troya, etc. That was one of the best parts as the clubs are right next door to each other you just end up bouncing from club to club and basically seeing almost every girl that night. If you're into certain hobbies or whatever you could also look for shops. For instance I'm into vinyl record collecting and anything coffee so there's a load of vinyl.

Shops around as well as artisanal coffee places, etc.

4. Don't have any info on short term places. As far as a hotel though you'd be hard pressed to not be somewhere like Hotel Ibis Bogota Museo. There are of course a load of nicer ones further north but It's a short walk during the day and early evening hours to SF, a short walk to the Calle 26 T bus to get you straight to Calle 22, across the road from the museo nacional bus station for taking you up north to Zona T, etc, BBC brewing company a couple of blocks up, the perseverencia market, some restaurants, etc. Also many of the taxi drivers in the small yellow cabs outside the clubs knew where the ibis was or at least knew where the Museo Nacional was. I would show it to them on my google maps on my phone but could also just say Carrera 10 then turn left and they were happy.

Thinking of staying somewhere around there actually, since I like to be in the place that is lively and walkable, with some food options and shopping available. It seems like somewhere south of Estacion San Diego alongside Carrera 7 might be a good choice. North of it, around Museo Nacional de Colombia, looks nice too, though it seems a bit 'wide and spacious' with not so many shops. From what I experienced:

1. During daytime, everything's open after 1 or 2 PM, but the clubs are relatively empty. To say the less.

2. You can always come in, sit and chill. But well, you will not be very appreciated if you don't order a beer or something (and the beer is 3 times the usual price).

3. The carrera 7 is really a good option. But if you want my advice: very close, you have a neighborhood called La Macarena. Really nice for westerners / gringos, with good restaurants and shops. You'll feel at home and it's a 20 mn walk from Santa Fe. Be careful, it's uphill, though.

4. If you want to stay in the very center, the lowest part of Chapinero and the Parkway. But if you like cabs and uber, try upper Chapinero or Usaquen.

From my previous trips, I found SA girls to be great tour guides for things like museums, monserate, la candelaria etc.

When I hardly spoke Spanish the prospect of losing translator and map was scarier to me than a financial loss, so I always brought a backup phone with me that I keep in the room.

Bogota is colombias massive populous city so with it you get that same mix of problems. I never felt threatened. I repeat for everyone that needs to hear it again. I never felt threatened. Now I will say that if you're visiting Bogota from say a small Texas town or smaller city where you are not visibly seeing this part of your city and perhaps interacting with it you are going to feel sometimes slightly on edge as all this stuff is out of your normal. So as in all large cities be aware of your surroundings and what you are carrying with you and you'll be fine. Specifically for my pickpocketing incident I let my guard down. The last time I had been pickpocketed was the exact same situation in Mexico City. For this I was Getting onto the transmillenio at Calle 26 as I was too lazy to walk down to Calle 22 from hotel ibis. You will notice that Colombians have a strange habit of not moving out of the way of the doors if it's not the bus they want so it causes a bottleneck as people try to squeeze through small gaps to get on and off the bus and pickpockets use that to their advantage. My stupid fault was that I had my phone and wallet in each one of my Jean pockets and I couldn't necessarily put hands in both my pockets while pushing into the bus. 4 or 5 guys pushed past me through the small gap of people not moving waiting for the other bus and that's when one of them grabbed my phone from my pocket. I knew straight away but the doors of the bus had already closed and even if I could get out I didn't know which of the guys it was. After this I was more attentive. For some reason there's literally a ton of fire grilled chicken places down the road.

Also if you're staying at the Ibis just walk up the hill and turn left on Carrera 5 down to La perserverncia market. It's become popular now because of the Netflix series but the food there is great. Basically about 10-15 vendors all selling their food in a small hall eating space. It gets busy at lunch but show up before 11:30 or after 1:30 and you usually don't wait. Even if you don't the wait isn't long. About 10 minutes.

I've been in Bogota for over a month now, so thought I'd write a report about SF. For the most part I've had to figure stuff out from just walking through the streets at different times and talking to people. But also got a lot of info from the forum about locations.

North and South Strolls:

Went during a bunch of different times. Personal preference is to go between 3-6 pm. There's a lot of girls out without the super-crowded spaces that you get when you go between 7-9 pm (arguably there are more girls during the evening / night, but it seems like a lot get busy). I don't go to the south stroll past 7 pm. I've found that while there's a lot of girls there, you don't get quite the same quality. My personal preference is for the houses along carrera 15. Prices for the north stroll seem to be regularly 50 k while on the south there are girls that agree to 40 k.

One thing I've been wary about is girls that aren't part of a casa. For girls around carrera 15/ calle 22 I read it's usually they don't have ID. But in some other places I kind of assume there's a reason, like drugs, why they can't join a casa. Total guess, so someone else can clue me in here.

Clubs:

For all the time I've spent here, I haven't really checked out that many of the clubs. In the beginning I went to Troya a bunch. Was a fan and got prices listed between 80-100 k. Went during basically every possible time of the day / night but it never seems to be that busy? Still a lot better than Paisas. That place is basically always empty. Atunes is supposedly a solid day club but never went (or seen it). Texas only went once and felt kind of claustrophobic (so much fog). There's Atares or whatever it's called on the corner of 24/16 a. That place seems to get crowded at night but never spent a lot of time there.

Then there's Fiebre and Venus. These two places seem to be the most popular by far, with each one having a very different vibe / crowd. First two times I went to Fiebre around 8-9 pm and saw there were only like 4-5 girls and thought it was just a dead club. Totally wrong about that. Went once during a weekday around 11 pm and it was actually jam packed. Now I've been to Fiebre the most, and in my opinion it has the most attractive girls. I've been quoted between 120 k-150 k for the girls I asked, and most of them that say 150 k agree to 120 k.

Originally I thought 120 k was more of a gringo price, but was told by some locals about the same quote from the same girls. I heard 100 k is more of the norm? But I haven't seen it. A bottle / table costs 100 k. I'm sure there's different drinks / prices, but this was a while ago so I don't remember what was ordered. Had a few bad experiences in Fiebre but for the most part they're good.

For Venus, I actually haven't spent that much time in there. Generally seems to be a younger crowd (girls + guys). Have only been there past 11 pm when it's crowded so don't know what it's like earlier.

Safety:

So when I first landed in Colombia I basically never went out past around 7 pm. Slowly got more comfortable going out, especially with Santa Fe. I think I slowly got a bit too comfortable. Walked to, around, and back from Santa Fe at 1 am. By myself. Definitely a really dumb decision. Nothing happened but the streets are definitely spookier when they're empty. During the day time I find it's basically fine, and I'm usually OK with walking around until 9 or 10 pm. Past that have always opted to take an Uber. But think you generally need to always be mindful. Was told to avoid some of the smaller clubs. Example heard that someone got drugged and robbed in Dubai Club. Don't know details so you can treat that as unverified rumour.
