Here are some of my takeaways. The immediate area around the clubs are the safest. As a first time visitor I would stick around the block with the clubs where Fiebre and Paisas are. If you plan to visit Santa Fe, plan your trip so you are there Thursday through Saturday. The rest of the days are so dead. Probably 3 of the 5 nights I was there, the police bus was parked in the area. It was the size of a full greyhound bus. I found it very amusing and I think it provided a level of safety. Even if it did look like they were just there to collect payments.

Today I took a tour around the area directly south of the main part of Santa Fe. Starting at calle 19 just past Avenida Caracas, I hung a right on cra 15 bis. On a 5-7 day trip, making local connections to other cities adds another 2.5 hrs each way and that's only if all goes well.

Do I think SA is worth it? Personally and strictly speaking about SA as it relates to Colombia, I would say no.
