It's good that I asked, because in terms of good / shady areas, I was just thinking in terms of north and south, I didn't realise it also goes for east / west too. Good to know! What do you mean by 'a good shirt' by the way, I normally wear t-shirts under my jackets. Are Tappsi / Easy Taxi Colombian apps or international? I didn't know about them before.

For any of you guys who know these places, I've hung out in Buenos Aires Microcentro clubs area and Santa Fe day and night, stayed in Paulista in Sao Paulo and walked from there to the downtown clubs at night (ie Big Ben), and walked up and down Avenida Independencia in Santo Domingo at night too, all with no problems. So I was wondering, are you giving me such specific advice on how to stay safe because Bogota is a step up in relative danger from any of those places, or just because I seem nervous and have asked so many questions?

By a good shirt, I generally prefer a polo or a reasonable t-shirt. I'm not sure if Tappsi and Easy Taxi work outside of Colombia, but they work in Colombia. There's also an app for the Transmilenio and SITP buses that's quite handy. Helps to figure out which route you need. Just search your app store for Transmilenio and you'll find it.

The bus should not be a problem. You might end up standing, but it's a reasonable ride. The area east of Carrera 7 is a nice area. It's a nice place to walk.

Your other question about the Mezzanine, I'll answer here. It's located on the northwest corner of Carrera 15 and Calle 104. I'll attach a screenshot from street view. There's a short flight of stairs leading up to the 2nd floor. There are several small office suites, on that floor, both sides. My experience was that if you walk by someone will open the door and usher you in. There might be 4 or 5 places there. Each will have a few girls. It's sort of a massage parlor. The rooms are tiny and the tables are very short, but there are usually a few cuties working there.

There's another massage place just down the street, south 1/2 block, west side of the street, just south of Justo & Bueno. If they're still open it's up the short flight of stairs and first door on the right. Some good looking girls in there as well. I'll add a picture for that too.

Think of Bogota as a long line, North and South. That is why the maps are in three sections.

Trying to bike a 3 block by 3 block area you will not see much. You will be dodging taxis, cars and people.

I went Buenos Aires ten years in a row. Bogota is not anything like it.

As I said before, how scary an area looks to you, has nothing to do with the dangers in the area. How you look in the area is what matters. Dress appropriately. Decent jeans, a reasonable shirt and a light to midweight jacket will keep you from sticking out too much. No jewelry, no fat wallet in your pocket, no iPhone X in your hand and no looking around like you're starring in a horror film and you just heard a chainsaw. Walk comfortably, not like you're terrified someone's going to come along and ram a giant dildo up your ass.

I know these issues have been mentioned before, but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere. Namely, what's the best company to get a local SIM car from?

I used to get a sim prepaid card from Tigo with something like 5 Gigs of data for 30-50 k (forgot the total amount). Then they started to do dumbshit like turn off my service because my phone wasn't certified (too new for Colombia). Now I just paid a flat fee for roaming internationally with my home provider.

Man, I wouldn't stay anywhere near Santa Fe. You're better off in North Bogota the entire time.

I'm coming down next week finally. Booked the first few nights at a hotel near Santa Fe, will venture there in the day once I've got my bearings. Then rented a nice looking Airbnb near Parque 93 for another week, hope it's warm enough!

Seems you skipped over some things. What bullshit did you not like? I have never heard of something like this happening in Santa Fe. When putting my clothes on the hooks, I always put my pants on the bottom and cover them up with everything else. I also have a drawstring backpack that I can put my things in. Or you can always roll them up and use them as a pillow. Also a good idea to make them undress before you undress and you dress before they dress.

My taxi driver drove me through there earlier this evening after nightfall, and I'm in agreement with you there! For me Medellin Centro didn't seem so bad as you always had the relative salvation of the museum and metro station quite close by.

LOL. I was thinking just the opposite! I would say Santa Fe is the less shadier of the two. Lots more addicts and street people mixed in on the Medellin scene. Although I have never had a problem in either place.
