Been a bit since my last report but obviously covid situation has made everyone's plans a little different. Anyway, I'll be heading to Bogota for the first time ever come Thursday evening and will be staying for a few months in Colombia. Could use some overall newb guidance and it's been years since I've spoke the basics of Spanish so I'll be starting that trek again from scratch. I did RTFF going back about 15 pages in this section and general reports too but still looking for some general help in getting me going. Wouldn't mind an English / Spanish guide / play thing if that's possible. I'm sure with enough time given, I'll find my own anyway.

I'm not really looking to go into Santa Fe anytime soon either but I wouldn't mind an upscale casa around the Chapinero area where I'll be spending my first four nights or if there is something like The Mansion in Medellin that's newb friendly. My hotel is the 72 HUB apartment and not looking to bring anything back to my home either. (I have too much crap and lots of high value items to worry about hiding them all the time.) I prefer getting a separate hotel for when I feel like ordering takeout or bringing something shiny and fun back from wherever I found it. Any info there would be great.

Lido's is the highest end strip club in the North. I was there just a month ago. Don't bother with any other clubs in the north El Retiro area like La Piscina, Olympics or Dan Carlos (I think that's the name) as they mostly have average looking girls at high prices, most from Venezuela. For your typical monger it's best just to avoid north Bogota altogether and stick to the Santa Fe area in the south, but if you have money to burn you could check out Lidos. I was there a month ago and there were a lot of 7 and 8 level girls, a couple of 9's but they were with other customers. It's 200 K COP exit fee (about $50 US just to take a girl out of the club. Last time I took a girl out of there was several years ago and paid about 500 K COP for 2 hours, so pretty expensive. Make sure you negotiate the fee before hand for several hours or all night. I've heard of tourists getting charged large amounts of money in the morning since they didn't speak much Spanish and didn't agree on a fee. If the girl is negotiating in US dollars you are pretty guaranteed to get ripped off.

There is no way to avoid buying at least one drink for yourself and the girl. Cheapest drinks are 40 K COP ($10 US) for you and probably twice that for the girl. But if these prices scare you, you probably shouldn't even visit this club. You can get at least 5 girls in Santa Fe area for the price of 1 in the north.

Another option is Flirt Hotel. I visited there several years ago and not sure if it's still open, although google says it is. You don't have to actually stay there to visit the girls, but you do have to call ahead of time and make an appointment to visit. When I called several years ago the person answering spoke English, but who knows if they will now.

This place operates like a casa in that when you arrive, you'll sit on a couch and they'll bring out girls in a lineup for you to choose from. There were about 10 girls and some stunners in the mix. There are rooms on site for you to take the girls and rooms are 5 star quality. Girls are 600 K COP for 30 minutes or 900 K COP for 1 hour, so very expensive. Close to US prices although you're dealing with much hotter girls than in the US.

As far as online girls, can't help you much there. It's been hit and miss for me. There are some stunners that can be found but also had a lot of bait and switch.

In case you did read that pre-print, it should not have escaped your notice that this is an observational study. With that, you have to be extremely careful to make sure your groups are comparable, in the sense that differences you see between the groups are not due to design issues and how the subjects were ascertained. So people in the field usually have a fine antenna out for potential problems. This pre-print stands out in the sense that you can see right away (on the abstract page!) that there is a humdinger of a flaw.

Vaccination in Israel started December 19, 2020. Who were the people who got vaccinated in January and February of 2021? The most ill, frail, in general, the people at the highest risk. It is almost comical that Gazit et al thought that by matching age, sex, and geographical area (and adjusting occasionally for an ICD code, which they said didn't make a difference anyways) they can generate an appropriate comparison group (and if there is a variable you want to match on, it is comorbidity, which only highlights their utter quantitative ignorance). To the day we do not fully understand what all the CoViD risk factors are, but according to these guys, one only needs age, sex, zip code, an ICD code (maybe), bam, done. What a bunch of clowns.

There are other issues too. People who get vaccinated tend to have a different exposure than the unvaccinated, which they acknowledge in the Discussion but throw the hands in the air about ("although we controlled for age, sex, and region of residence, our results might be affected by differences between the groups in terms of health behaviors (such as social distancing and mask wearing), a possible confounder that was not assessed" It is easy to see many other potential problems. There is a reason randomized clinical trials are the gold standard, since by definition, the difference you see must be due to the treatment (or is the result of some very unlikely outcome, with a likelihood that itself can be quantified). Yes, there is an entire field trying to draw causal inference from observational studies, but it surely requires more diligence and skills than these yahoos appear to have.

All the technical study design mambo jambo aside, the most important question in science is "does this make sense"? Quite often, when we analyze the data from a study, the results do support what we believed a priori. But sometimes they don't. Then the question is 'How come'? And we start to ask ourselves whether there could be explanations we have not considered before. And if we cannot come up with an explanation, that means we either observed something that still escapes us, or something went awry. Case in point: when it comes to CoViD-19, we consistently see that vaccination produces greater amounts of circulating antibodies than natural infection. So on a molecular level, how is it possible that higher antibody levels lead to poorer health outcomes? I have no idea. Do you?

I'll keep an eye out, but I won't hold my breath that this manuscript will make it into a decent journal.

Is it advisable to use Google Translate with SW? It means I have to carry my phone with me and use it on street to communicate with SW. Is it safe?
