You know, there are people who say that every area south of Texas is shady and should be avoided.

Don't go south of Chaperino unless you're going to La Candelaria which is the "old city" with lots of museums and other things. Downtown Bogota is also close to La Candelaria if I remember correctly with all the office buildings. It's fine by the day. At night stick to north Bogota.

But Senior Yippie, Bogota is a safe city, you say? Not really. Especially if its your first time. You don't want to get drugged and robbed. There's tons of time during the day to fuck in brothels in Chaperino. For night life try to get a chicas number and go to El Retiro. There is an area there with tons of restaurants, clubs, and casinos.

EDIT: Also make sure you visit the Mezzanine girls. Its in the Bogota map maintained here. It's quiet an experience to fuck in a closet.

You know, there are people who say that every area south of Texas is shady and should be avoided.

It depends on YOU which area you feel comfortable in. It also depends on you which climate you feel confortable in. Wear an extra layer of clothes in the evening or on a rainy day in Bogota and sleep under an extra blanket, or go somewhere warmer like Medellin.

My favourite area of Bogota now is Zona G in Chapinero around Cra 5 and Calle 70. Plenty of good restaurants in the area because well to do Colombians live above there. In my room in Hotel Emaus (120 k on booking) I was surprised to see an electric heater, not common in Bogota. The bathtub instead of shower was good, too.

I have received my Sugarbabies in three different hotels in Bogota and reception never even asked to see their ID. I had booked a double room, except one place where I paid 70 k for one person I had to pay 30 k to upgrade to double on days when I had a visitor.

Teqandama area is a great place to stay, walking distance to Santa Fe. Also East 19th St area.

My recommendation has always been, if you're concerned about being able to walk around the area, stay north of Calle 72. Generally between Carrera 7 and 15 is what I consider to be less scary for the novice visitor. For the particularly nervous types, I'd move that to north of Calle 85.

Of course that doesn't guarantee anything. Whether you stay on Calle 19, or Calle 129 doesn't make a huge difference in your security. It just means one area looks safer to you. And I'm not picking on you for this. I've seen plenty of reviews about very nice hotels, in very nice areas, where some gringo complained about how scary the neighborhood was.

When you go west of Carrera 15, it will look a bit shadier. It's not particularly bad, but it will look that way to you. Same is true south of Carrera 72 (or 85). My personal preference is to stay north, close to Carrera 15. There are plenty of places where you can get a suite, some with a kitchen, for $40-$50 per night. Some even have heat.

I choose to be close to Carrera 15 because I use the Transmilenio. Although it's crowded and bumpy, it's much faster and cheaper than anything else. Why spend $5-$8 for a 45 minute ride, when you can get there in 20 minutes for a Dollar? 2 round trips a day and you're spending the same as getting a cheaper place and taking taxis.

If you're sticking with taxis or Uber, there's an option that doesn't get mentioned much. That's to stay over around the US Embassy in Teusaquillo. There's plenty of budget options for reasonable lodging and you're bypassing much of the worst traffic. Once again, it will probably look scary, but it's not a bad area. It's also near the National University of Colombia. That means lots of cheap food options and plenty of eye candy.

As I said before, how scary an area looks to you, has nothing to do with the dangers in the area. How you look in the area is what matters. Dress appropriately. Decent jeans, a reasonable shirt and a light to midweight jacket will keep you from sticking out too much. No jewelry, no fat wallet in your pocket, no iPhone X in your hand and no looking around like you're starring in a horror film and you just heard a chainsaw. Walk comfortably, not like you're terrified someone's going to come along and ram a giant dildo up your ass.

Know where you're going, even if you have no idea. If you look lost or confused, you look like an easy target. If you're not sure, or if you think someone is paying too much attention to you, stop in a store or restaurant. Buy a bottle of water and take a few minutes to figure out where you are and where you want to go. 99.9% of the people are going about their business and have no interest in your business. The other 0. 1% are looking for an easy target. If you don't look like one, they'll keep looking.

If you are feeling too nervous, use Tappsi or Easy Taxi to call a taxi and have them take you where you want to go.

I was able to find nice 4 stars hotels for around $50/ night in Zona Rosa. Is there any reason that you want to rent an Airbnb? Aren't hotels more comfortable and safer for the first timers?

If I'm staying anywhere for more than a couple of nights, I prefer an apartment as I like to eat / drink what I want & when I want and generally feel more at home in a nice apartment than a hotel room. If I was staying somewhere for 2 weeks for example, I wouldn't enjoy it and my health would suffer if I had to eat out / takaways etc the whole time! It's got nothing to do with bringing in chicas for me. In general I don't do that very often, because I'm more comfortable going to their place / a casa / meeting at a motel, and also not bringing them into my place for safety reasons. Hate to wait around too for a chica to ring my doorbell! PM me when you're there about meeting up.

Actually there is no direct link between poverty and prostitution offer. For me the number one monger destination is Germany, while Switzerland, Austria or Holland are also good options, not exactly third world countries and one of the worst shoud be something between Mauritania, Afghanistan, Sudan or Pakistan, not exactly rich countries.

I had a girlfriend though so I was never running chicks in and out. It was just her, then I would walk down to Santa Fe when she was at work or whatever.

Well I had one chick that I have known for about 10 years come by 2 days ago. She stayed about 30 min. Yesterday I came in with another chick and before they would let her up they made me pay 57K ($18). She stayed about an hour and a half before she had to get back to work. In an airbnb you probably won't have that type of problem. To me what sux about airbnb is the service fee and cleaning fee that they add. I guess you have to pick your poison.

I've finally booked my flight to come in a fortnight to Colombia for a month. Think I will stay in a hotel for the first few nights to get my bearings, probably in Chapinero, though the IBIS Museo looks tempting as it's so close to Santa Fe. Who has experience of walking there from the IBIS in the daytime, it's not far but whatever route I check looks dodgy. Can it be done safely?

Looking for Airbnb's in Bogota is seriously frustrating. None I have checked have heating, they have many customer complaints that their places were freezing in the morning / at night. But when I've asked them about a heater they come back with endless crap 'We are in the tropics / we don't use heating in Bogota / I will give you lots of blankets' !? I'm not paying 400 for a week to freeze my ass off on the equator!!
