Been back in the states now for a couple of weeks and had to get out my funk of leaving a place where sex isn't so restrictive. Start off with formality stuff.

Airport: checking is still as glitchy as ever and had to do it a couple of times before I got an Email saying it was completed. Printed it out and had it with me through immigration but they didn't ask to see it. Have a feeling it's linked to your passport number so they know if you completed it once they scan your passport. Still, I'd have the printed out confirmation just in case. Exchanged money at the currency exchange in baggage claim right next to bag claim#2. Got 4750 cop per 1 usd. Once out of the customs area there is a taxi booking stand and used that. Think I paid 50 k and some change cop for the ride ($11'ish).

Hotel and location: Stayed at the Ibis Museo. Didn't have any girls over but other reports say that it's girl friendly and as far as a place to stay it was fine. Rooms nice and no prob with wifi. About a 15 minute walk to Santa Fe or you can go a 5 min walk to Avenida Caracas to get the red T bus at calle 26 and take it 1 stop south to calle 22, which I did sometimes when I didn't want to walk or it was raining. As usual temperature wise it was cool and showers in the afternoon hours are pretty much a given but thankfully they're not downpours so just continued walking through them if it was happening on my way to SF but took advantage of the closeness of the Transmilenio to take the 1 stop ride down to calle 22 for about 50 cents if I didn't want to bother.

Transportation / taxis: Depends on what you're doing but I would just recommend getting a Transmilenio card especially if you plan to do some sightseeing and if you're next to a T stop that has access to the Calle 22 stop. Load it up with enough for a few rides so you don't have to mess around at the machines loading up each time. From the airport took the airport booking one and back to the airport the hotel called me one for 60 k cop. Don't know if Uber and didi just don't want to do the short drive or don't want to go in the area but I couldn't get anyone to take me down to Santa Fe from the Ibis which is another reason why the Ibis worked out good for both walking and catching the T.

Yellow taxis after the club at night: Again, Uber, Didi and Indriver never accepted when I tried to use them at midnight to 3 am to get back to the hotel from the club. I ended up doing the yellow taxis. I know there are some safety concerns with that but in general I looked for ones that were driving and had a small blue light (think it was blue might've been orange) on. I'd flag them on the road outside the clubs. Once they let you in lock the door. My internet would go in and out sometimes despite getting a rain so I had a screenshot from google maps of the Ibis with the address in case I needed to show it to a taxi. Some of them have a phone and will put in directions and some of them didn't and I had to use my best Spanish to try and point to where they had to drive, turns to take, etc. Either way be prepared and know the roads you walked down there and you'll be able to describe to the driver if he doesn't have a phone to use directions. It was cheap about 4-5 k cop and I usually only had 10 k on me so I'd let them have it as tip and they were all grateful. Have the cash easily available as late at night it's dark as F in the car and you'll be flapping through bundles of notes trying to find something small if you don't preplan your payment before getting into the taxi.

Safety: Everyone has their own tolerances but I never felt threatened. Only time something dicey happened was after the club at 3 am and some homeless looking guy was persistent about calling out "hey gringo" and wanting me to stop and turn around but a taxi was coming down so I just got in. Either way I'd be able to handle myself if something happened or you can just walk back into a club if you feel uneasy. A lot of Americans on here come to Bogota either not having gone to other Latin American counties or the only Latin American sex district they've been to is Tijuana which is fairly polished in the zona Norte, so if that's the case you may find Santa Fe a bit overwhelming and / or unsafe. What I can tell you is that Santa Fe is a bit gritty but I wouldn't call it unsafe unless you flagrantly do f'd up things. There are groups of young kids hanging around mostly selling weed or coke, you're going to run into some homeless and / or struggling people but it's rare for them to actually interfere with you. But on the flip side- don't walk around with bling or flashing fancy stuff. It's not the area and additionally it's not something the locals there would do. In general, don't be an idiot and you'll be good. After about 11 pm I found the area outside the main Santa Fe area to be a little bit more dodgy. I walked back to the hotel fine but if this was your first time in this environment you may like to grab a taxi or if the T is running use it.

Misc: bring your own condoms. I had 3 or 4 in my Jean pockets. The ones they use at the clubs are thick and you'll be lucky to feel a thing based on the last time I was there. This time came prepared. All the girls were good with using mine.

Restaurants: Bogota has a load. I don't know what to recommend but everything is inexpensive. Talking less than $10 for a nice good meal with 1 or 2 drinks. I will say Colombia is meat heavy and there are other cuisines (Peru, Mexico, etc) which have some more interesting and tasty dishes but if you're going there and eating McDonald's and complaining about the food then you're just not branching out that much. You can pretty much get anything and all countries cuisines are there, especially around the parque 93 area. If you're into coffee there are some great places to try to. Colo, arte why pasion cafe, varietale as well as your standard such as Starbucks and Juan Carter.

If you have some time and want to sightsee make sure to do a graffiti tour. Loads of great street artwork around.

Had a brief window of time so didn't sample all options, but did my fair share:

Photoprepagos / Mileroticos: a time sink and crapshoot, but the thrill of discovery is part of the game. Newbie, finally made it to Colombia. Flew in to Bogota for an overnight before continuing on to Cartagena the next day. Not much exciting to report as I did not get to check out Santa Fe or setup a Woodman tour, and had limited time. I will do that next time.
