On my newbie trip I got in late at like 11 pm and cost me like $25-$30 to North area Thursday night. Same ride via my Uber on the way back to airport cost me $13.50 with the conversion fee added in. I was soooo happy to get into the taxi though at 11 pm since I was terribly tired and the mountain sickness kicked in, but I remember being surprised at the pesos he was asking and even double checked make sure it wasn't like $50 since I was still figuring out all my conversions in my head being first time. The life of the non-fluent Spanish speaking noob. I'd much rather grab Uber next time from airport but not sure how easy that is if anyone had experience at el dorado.

Regrettably the days of pre-priced taxis are over. From my experience you stand a 1 in 4 chance of being overcharged during the day, rising to almost 100% at night. (And for those who say yeah, but it's only a few bucks, I've had fares double.) You can try Uber -- the service is as shit but you should know roughly what you're paying in advance.

There are plenty of smartphone apps which will tell you if you're being raped by the Yellow Peril. If you don't have one here's a guide:

1. Make sure the taxi scum resets the meter at the outset.

2. Meter should increment at 1 unit /30 secs if stationary, if moving.

40 km / HR: every 6 secs.

60 km / HR: every 4 secs.

(If its incrementing every second and you're not in a F1 car, you are being fucked over).

3. 4 k extra for the airport.

4. 2 k extra for Sundays or evenings.

In the airport you will be accosted by several people wanting to know if you want a ride. Skip them, they will overcharge. Exit the terminal and find the taxi stand. Tell the taxi stand where you want to go, he will give a slip of paper with the cost.

So, I tried to visit again Pussy house tonight. It is still closed and a guy on the street told me its closed permanently. The same seems to apply to the other club in the same street. What a shame. That makes the area much less attractive. Looks like I have to revert to Santa Fee or are there any other equivalent options in the area?

It may have been closed because Sunday was Mother's Day, or it may always be closed Monday. Day after mother's day may have mde it slower than usual, but Monday's are always sliw.

I have been there yesterday around 21:00 and it was closed. So, looks like google was right about this one. Trying again tonight. BTW: haven been to LA49 instead. It was open but very slow. It looks like Monday was not the best day to start my Bogota tour.

I've had the same experience and am wondering the same thing. I hope someone can answer this.

A lot depends on where the apartment is located. One problem that several have reported, the pictures don't always match who answers the door. Another problem is you have no idea what the service will be like.

An alternative is to find Bogota prepagos who use Twitter to advertise. Better chance to get accurate pictures and you can get an idea how long they've been working and whether it's worth a visit.
