Woodman, I do not know what your time frame is, but I will be headed to Bogota tomorrow. I am not sure I will need a PCR even though I got one. If you have time, I will post tomorrow if I needed it. I think Mr. E posted an article that the PCR requirement may not be needed anymore given a judge's ruling.

What sucked for me is that my fucking PCR test was more expensive than my ticket. I got a killer deal on Spirit.

Not sure your time frame but Costco now sells saliva PCR tests kit for home and the results are returned in 72 hrs. The kit costs $115. Costco.com has the info. It is a little complicated with a video call to view your test sample, then into overnight box to the lab.

My first trip to Bogota was quite interesting.

One nice thing about this area during the day. If you are walking back to IBIS go up to Carrera 7. The street is closed and there are many stores to go to including stores where you can get a SIM. Woodman09 took me to a phone store here and I quickly got a SIM with 2 GB. Walking back to IBIS (which is a straight shot from IBIS) I got a great burger and bought some souvenirs.

Good writeup. I'll be heading to Medellin soon and will likely stop in Bogota for a few day-week to check it out first. I will need a local sim and am curious, the place that you purchased your sim what company was it with? If its something that I can work with my entire trip, I'll just grab the sim there and keep it for my entire time in Colombia as long as its a new sim that lasts and not one of the stolen ones that get disconnected that I hear about.

The hotel telephoned some testing site. The site sent a technician to my suite and I had the results emailed to me a few hours later. It was easy.

Just wanted to mention:

At the Synlab test center at the airport you can get your rapid antigen test without appointment. Opposite to what the website says.

Results came by email within 90 minutes.

This was required for me to get home.

Went to santa fe at the beginning of the week; not as many girls but cheaper overall. You can get a decent Venezolana for only 30000 room included ($10).

I had my covid test antigen test done at Colcan lab. $30. Result delivered within 4 hours. No need for an appointment.

Are you suggesting robbery is a petty crime? If my life is being threatened in Latin America or anywhere else I don't consider that a petty situation, you're welcome to.

But don't go telling others to consider it "no big deal", I like his advice, slash them across the eyes with a razor blade, lets see how soon they retire from their (according to you) noble profession.

Posts like this surface in Colombia topics quite often. I wonder what it is about this country that makes people so worked-up.

Kazeu was the one who posted about the incident. Someone from a group of street punks threw something at him. Rather than escalate and risk his life, he walked away and I applaud him for it.

Then another member posted his box-cutter tip. Well, that would be a hell of an overreaction to. Yes - a "petty" act in my book.

Now, when your life is threatened, it's a totally different matter, and no one would blame you. But that incident wasn't about saving one's life, just a bruised ego.

OK so what's your superhero origin story that would explain why being equipped with a knife designed to cut boxes puts you at an advantage over 5 dudes with potentially better weapons? Because the ability to refrain from drugs and alcohol is great, don't get me wrong, but it's not enough. And no amount of studying foreign cultures is going to help you out of that situation either.

The situation in question did not involve a robbery. It was just a group of guys who threw something at someone after he turned his back and then gave themselves up by laughing. But I can't say that changes my stance very much. If you're getting robbed by a group, shit there goes your money. If you pull out a knife on them, shit, there goes your life. At least one of them will probably have a knife that was made to cut more than cardboard but even if not you're still fucked. You'd need something with reach like a bat or a golf club if you want any hope of taking on a group. Again, not saying that's a good idea. I would agree that it sounds like some of us may have seen too many action movies.

Every situation is different and will require really fast thinking and decision making, that's why mongers should not drink or get high in 3rd world shitholes like Sante Fe Tijuana El Centro MDE et al.
