I live at low altitude in the states and I take forever to get a nut. It only took me about a week to get acclimated to the Bogota altitude. Craziest thing about Lidos was that they had the music turned down super low, you didn't have to talk above a normal level that you would at a dinner restaurant with background music on.

I prefer to stay away from Medellin, Being a Gringo with green eyes, it was once a novelty in Medellin, not anymore and hasn't been for a long time now. Although Bogota is getting more popular with gringos everyday it's still no where near as tired and touristy as Medellin. The weather in Medellin, 'the eternal spring' is very nice, the weather in Bogota is ok with me, Rain can be a nuisance but I like the cooler weather. At an elevation of 8,500 feet more or less, it can be difficult for some. I live on the east coast on the water, so sea level can need some time to acclimate to the elevation in Bogota but by the 2nd day your pretty much back to normal. Most of my problem was a habit of shallow breathing but if you stay conscious of the fact and be sure to deep breath you'll be fine.
