Could you guys break it down for someone who hasn't been there before. What's the standard 40 K dance like? I'm looking to compare it to my experience at clubs in the US. Girls tend to ask 40 k by default to foreigners but most of the times if you only have 50 k notes and give them 50 k, they never give you the change back.

Locals pays 20 to 30 k. I had a dance once and paid 50 k, the was cute as she asked 40 but I only had 50 notes. A local guy asked me from afar how much I gave to the girl and he was showing me 2 fingers or 3 fingers which means 20 k or 30 k as he was a few meters away and the music was loud. I think it is a combination of several factors. There is no doubt that global inflation has played a part. The general FX trend for the major currencies vs COP is that COP is weaker, in theory you get more bang for your buck, so to speak. The past 12 months, COP has strengthened, so that plays a part in making things more expensive. However, I have definitely noticed an increase in girls quoting USD upfront whereas it was less common a few years ago. This is much more prevalent in places like Cartagena and I have spoken to a lot of locals over the past few years who say that, specifically, US tourism is slowing eroding their economy because they play a part in driving up the price. Whilst this is only one occasion, I am friends with a guy from California, a couple of years ago, after a night out in Cartagena, he took a girl back for an overnight at my place. He paid her 300 USD for the overnight, which is obscene. He was quite nonchalant about it. Girls see this type of behaviour and they think this is a common. I like Villavicencio or Villao as the locals call ity. I was there back in February and I stayed at a hotel right across from the exito grocery store. It was real cheap like 35 mil pesos per day for the hotel and it was actually pretty decent. No air-conditioning but it had these big ass windows right by the bed that let the breeze in and a strong fan blowing directly at the bed too so when I was laying down it felt good and a slept well.
