It still happens, and it does happen quite a lot, just google atraco in taxi and you will see. I'd agree that is not as dangerous as it used to be but petty crime in the streets, in buses, in taxis, in restaurants DOES happen. Check the news.
Anytime Fitness just opened up a 24 hour gym and it is close to Ibis, about a 20 minute walk. I have membership in the USA And pay $40 or so per month here. They have locations all over the world.

Mezzanines.
First time went early afternoon, when you go up the stairs, mezzanine 8 on its own to the right 4 girls just sat in there. Left at the top of the stairs takes you to the other 4 or 5? Came Saturday night, lots of good restaurants and normal bars. I went to VIP club near 10 pm, 10+ girls quality low honestly better ones in Santa Fe, maybe 2 other local guys sat in there. Instead of wondering about I get a tout outside to show me all the other spots, we go to what seems to be around red garden club on the map but he called it something else, 2 average girls no guys. Walk to Ibiza which think had just a few girls and no guys, none for me. I think we tried another I forget then finished at Olimpo, this had about 20 girls quality better than the rest by far so I stayed for one beer which said 35 k but was nearly 50 k after tax and service, weird atmosphere didn't feel like spending a night in here (In hindsight should of got some numbers for next day to skip getting ripped of in there), again no other guys here but as I left 2 locals arrive, this is about 10.30 pm.
Also checked the spas out around here one afternoon.
Colorin spa. Price is 200 k 1 hour and two poor girls, they must get zero business at those prices and looks.
Viva - 1 girl, OK and spoke English. Said 200 k for 1 hour, massage, BJ, 1 penetration, everything covered. Left.
Mantra spa. Told no sex its lingham massages ending with HJ so I didn't ask for a line up.
Sensity spa. Seemed to be closed?
Abadunai. No girls, an older women told me to go Abba Abasenity.
Abba abasenity - 3 girls best quality of the places in this area. I was keen on one but mezzanines are better value and similar looks so just went back there.

I always walked or used uber, mainly so I can pay by card and don't have to explain where I'm going in my non existent Spanish. 6/7 k to Chapinero from my hotel or 11/13 k to north Bogota.
I read that to walk around safely you need to be in North Bogota, I don't agree with that, the area around the Ibis feels super safe, lots of upmarket restaurants, bars and families walking around at night.

I joined Bodycare Gym on Calle 45 which is a 30 minute walk straight up Caracas from Santa Fe, or a 19 minute Transmilenio ride from the same, literally outside La Piscina.
It's an old school gym with most machines and free weights, more than enough for a solid session. And some bonus weird flashbacks from the 70's and 80's like the vibrating belt machine!
The offer is $70 K for a month but they may do a deal for a little less. One of the best investments I made was joining that gym and every second or third day smashing out a session before grabbing some lunch and an afternoon stroll up to the massages close by.
Another option much closer by is the Mac Gym 10 minutes walk to Calle 30.
It looks really old school in some photos I've seen but their facebook shows some more modern equipment.
