I'm planning a week in Bogota. Here's my plan (after reading 2 years worth of posts and especially the insanely good Bogota FAQ from Oct 2018:

Stay at Hotel B3 Virrey.

First night, get an escort.

Next day, go to massage parlors at Av. Carrera 15 #104-03.

Later that night, go to Lalo's across the street from B3 Virrey. Bring a girl across the street for TLN.

Repeat massage and Lalo's each day.

After reading elsewhere about the street crime in Bogota, I was seriously considering canceling my trip and going to Lima or Buenos Aires (although it seems like BA is dead currently). I've been mongering throughout Europe, Southeast Asia, and in Panama City and Cartagena, and I've been in some pretty sketchy places, but the crime reports from Bogota make me cringe. My Spanish is extremely basic. Not remotely fluent. And I am not a big scary bouncer, just a little scrawny guy.

Does my plan sound "safe"? Should I cancel? Any other "safe" suggestions? Price is not the limiting factor for me. Safety is.

For example, many people suggest Uber or taxi apps, but then say "don't ever let anyone see that you have a cell phone". Not sure how to make that work.

Your post reminds me of mine before I came to Bogota. I was also pretty paranoid about safety, and a few people on the forum enjoyed making me even more so! I stayed on Calle 98, walked all over in the daytime from there down to the malls and as far south as where the daytime chica motels around Calle 65. Didn't feel unsafe whatsoever, made sure to dress like the locals, not wear anything flash either. Also didn't feel unsafe at all in the downtown when I stayed at the IBIS there. The only place I did was in Santa Fe, which I found very sketchy and couldn't wait to get out of the place! Can't speak about the night time much though as main; why did my mongering in the daytime.

And all these issues about people spiking your drinks etc only apply to going to some dodgy nightclub / bar, more so at night. They certainly don't apply to going to normal cafes, restaurants, malls etc in the daytime! On my first few days before I got comfortable in the place, I found being in malls was a good place to take a break, get your bearings, and of course use your phone as much as you like, as everybody else does. Of course I had to check my google maps a few times when out walking, but just use common sense and look around you first. I had a few problems with Uber not working, but it was more because they didn't like my credit card for some reason (than anything else. Took an Uber to a mall, then it wouldn't work on the way back. But the friendly security guy in the parking called me one on his phone, so it worked out. But I would say to make sure that your Uber is all set up before you go, as otherwise getting around the city is a pain. And phoning there a cab is a lot more hassle than using Uber!

To me the issues that affected my trip were the altitude that made me tired quicker, the size of the place and transport issues I had, rather than any problems with safety. But definitely don't cancel, go see the place and enjoy it!

The Tall Man made it to Bogota, I met Woodman in Sante Fe and we hung out trolling almost every nook-and-cranny of sante fe. My impressions is simply wow there are some really cuties here in sante fe.

Within a few hours I had 2 chicas and BOTH were venies, both were white skin, good attitude, incredible smile and the faces of an angle is the only way I can describe both of these 20-22 yo beauties, honestly they could be a teenie model for abercombie and fitch, seriously. And from what I observed this Thursday night tomorrow night, Friday, can't come soon enough.
Pricing, my street girl was 35 mil TOTAL and my club girl was 70 mil. Back in California I would have no reservations paying $250 USD to find this.

There is crime all right but the media isn't helping, there is a whole lot of media outlets that are politically left and thus are against the current major of Bogota, so they inflate the news about crime and create a general sense of insecurity among people, looking forward to the next elections. In particular an individual that goes by gustavo petro, is a marxist anarchist who would like to see everything burn so long as he and his political movement are next in the major office of Bogota or in the presidency. Off course you need to be safe, try not to show expensive stuff like watches or gold necklaces, keep an eye on your credit card while paying (ask to bring the wireless machine to you instead of giving away the credit card) to avoid cloning and try not to use your phone to surf in the streets of santa fe and chapinero. Also in bars keep and eye on your bottle and ask the waiter to bring it unopened. If you take the bus put your bagpack to the front and try as much as possible to hire a taxi using apps instead of hiring it from the street, in particular avoid taxis that are parked outside bars and restaurants. I think these are regular safety measures one take in most third world countries.

I'll be staying in Chapinero near the Zona Rosa for the first few days next week. I have experience mongering in San Jose and Jaco, Costa Rica, as well as Montreal (hometown). Yes those cars you call using easy taxi are regular taxis. Here most taxis nowadays use apps instead of phone + operator. Cabify mostly uses white taxis (so called "special service taxis" with a bit higher rate), but those are also registered taxis which operates mostly in hotels. I think you can also call a regular yellow taxi using cabify app.

Colombia's transport minister has made clear that taxi service Uber is illegal, but the law has been ignored both by customers, drivers and the government itself for years.

Following a meeting with taxi drivers in the city of Manizales, Transport Minister Angela Maria Orozco reiterated that Uber is not a registered company in Colombia and thus illegal.

As in most thing in Colombia, nobody gives a shit and people just do what they want.

There is a law stating that providing public service using a private car gives a 25 year ban on the driver's license in case of repeating offenders. So far around 100 drivers have been penalized around the country. First time offenders get their cars impounded and have to pay a 400 USD penalty fee. Some people do give a shit.

Besides uber service in Colombia is terrible. Many former taxi drivers have switched and they brought in annoying practices like cancelling the trip if the destination is too far, not convenient or there is too much traffic jam, they also cancel the trip once you get in the car so they don't have to pay uber their fee or just stop the car until the arriving time increases and the user cancels the trip. Uber used to provide legal assistance to the drivers but some drivers complain this is not happening anymore.

There are other apps with better service like cabify or easytaxi.

Welcome to Colombia, yes Bancolombia is corrupt as they can be, the golden rule, they got the gold so they rule, 3 years ago in a small pueblo right outside Medellin I used my CapitalOne card to withdraw 600 mil, yep technical difficulties on the first and second try, the ATM made all kinds of counting the money noise but no pesos, I filed a report and a month later got the reply from Bancolombia that I did in fact receive the money so case closed, I lost $440 USD.

It sucks.

I recommend using citibank's ATMs, you can withdraw up to 720.000 pesos (about 240 USD). Most other ATM only give 400.000 each time.

There is another network called servibanca, those are green ATMs available mostly everywhere and that network is reliable and well maintained.
