So, what other sidetrip or ventures out of the capitol can anyone recommend? Bogota sounds like a superb mongering destination, but it seems to have it limits to touristic value. I'm the kind of guy who likes adventuring to ancient ruins, visiting small colonial towns, etc. I'm not big on beaches or backpacking. But I could definitely have fun on the water, nonetheless. It would all be made the sweeter by the availability of poon for sale. I've always savored the idea of visiting some of the types of places listed above followed by some P4P action. Regretably, many places that have excellent P4P options are often at a lack for other things. Berlin is an exception. Lots of freelancers and old-school bordellos, with a lot to see and do. I spent 9 days there last year, but would have liked to have spent 3 weeks just checking out all things I was interested as well as indulging in all the P4P activity.

I have checked out short ventures from Medellin, a city which I think I have seen enough of. I also understand Barranquilla is the gateway to Santa Marta. And there are also options from Cartegena. I love coffee as my Hungarian screen name should suggest. I eventually want to visit coffee country just out of curiosity. I really want to see the coffee beans on the tree. But, I understand I will be in a place where P4P is not real obvious. Or no?

My question is, would it be safe to take a taxi directly to pussyhouse or la 49 at night, enter the club, and leave directly by taxi? Also, would it be safe to take a taxi at night directly to troyas / fiebre in Santa Fe, enter club, and leave directly by taxi after? Could the bouncers at the clubs be trusted to call me a legit taxi? Will the clubs be busy or dead from Dec. 17th to 22nd as this is close to Christmas (do all the chicas go home for the holidays, etc). Lastly, and I know this is a matter of personal taste, but are the high end club girls really any prettier than the girls at the chapinero day brothels. I have read that some work in both places. I expect to have most of my free time during the day, and it looks like the high end clubs will be closed until 7 pm, so chapinero sounds like the best option. Would I really regret not going to the high places for a night or two? I have been to SXM multiple times (mostly spend time at hypnotic and Carolina's) and most of the great girls I met there are from Medellin or Bogota, I never thought to ask if / where they might have worked in Bogota, so I have no idea what to expect in terms of quality from Santa Fe, chapinero, high end clubs. Anyways, any thoughts are appreciated. In answer to your taxi question, all of the above, yes. At least I would feel safe doing that.

As for the other questions, hit up Chapinero first. If you're not satisfied with the looks, go north. If the looks are better than you expect, go south.

I've never had any major issues with a taxi in Bogota, however it's best to be smart as many have had issues. Yes, most decent establishments will call you a taxi, give you the license plate number and a code you give to them. Hailing a cab. Particularly in some of the shadier areas can be a problem that is best to just avoid. Uber is also a good bet or download the app Tapsi which also gives you some additional security.

The code, regrettably, is not all it's cracked up to be. Its fixed -- the last 2 digits of the callers phone number. They did change it recently to a random number but I notice it's reverted so that was clearly too complicated for the good burghers of Bogotá. I think the code is designed to protect the taxi driver, and give the company some idea if the driver had actually picked up the right fare: it does sfa to protect the punter.

In Bogota (if you're not stupid) Parque 93 and Zona Rosa are fine day or night. However, if you start wandering around the dark back streets, you may find trouble.

Bogota is dangerous if you're stupid. Just like every major city. If you pay attention to the forum, if you don't do stupid things, you can successfully navigate Bogota with no problems.

So, I am considering a visit to Bogota. Would it be a safe bet to merely take a cab to your destination in Santa Fe, and take a cab from your casa / club whatever? I'm thinking the management of most establishments can call you a cab.

Note, that I have visited Medellin without any problems, but I understand its a different ball game in Bogota. I like to try different places with every trip I take and understand Bogota has a much wider variety of mongering options than Medellin, which is saying a lot. Heck, the exchange rate is awfully good right now.

Thank you for your endorsement. The reason I have posted what I posted is that there are many articles on internet likely written by some tourists organizations or travel agencies depicting Colombia as now a safe place claiming that at one time it was unsafe but now it is much better even though they caution about showing off money or jewelry or expensive phones but still giving the impression that it is safe like major cities in Europe and North America. So people read these misleading articles and when they travel they feel they are as safe as home and start walking around after dark and alone and unprepared and hence fall victims. My posts are to counter those false assurances. Likely the German friend was a victim of those articles depicting Colombia now as relatively safe compare to past. Otherwise he must have been completely out of his mind otherwise to walk in red Light district in a country like Colombia at 1:15 am!
